Staying at Sandals in Barbados is getting 2 resorts for the price of one! I loved it! We had a swim up pool looking out to the infinity pool across the way. Every part of both resorts was breathtaking. The staff are slower because they are on island time and I understand that. We went with a group of 4 couples. The staff are nice and always greet you in passing. The island is stunning with so much to do…party all night or stay in your room. The ocean was right near our room. The food was good, my favorite was Chi Asian Fusion. The drinks were flowing and everyone seemed so happy and relaxed.I highly recommend this resort. The only reason I rated the room 4 stars is because of the humidity and damp smell. The locals said they’ve never had this much humidity before.

Sandals continues to amaze me with our recent visit to our new favourite Sandals resort: Sandals Royal Barbados. The breathtaking beauty of the location, the phenomenal, hardworking staff, and the overall atmosphere made us feel grateful every day to be there. We spent our mornings with coffee on our patio, followed by a trip to our favourite beach in the Caribbean, and afternoons in our swim up pool.
There is so much care that goes into cultivating every experience at Sandals and it shows. We couldn’t wait to book our return trip for all of the above reasons, but mostly because of our butler team (Ron, Shakeel and Kevan) who brought so much joy, fun and a passion for what they do. We can’t wait to return!
We go to Sandals because we are reassured everything will be taken care of, the properties are stunning, the water is safe, the food is great and we can escape from our day to day chaos. Now we feel like we’re returning to visit family at this specific resort and especially with the best butler team out there!
*I need to add after reading reviews, and watching guests interact with staff - my respect for the sandals team has increased tenfold. I look at pictures of “bad experiences” like sand on the edges of the pool or hear someone scolding staff because a restaurant didn’t have air conditioning. The sand is there from disrespectful guests who didn’t wash their feet after the beach, not the staff who are up at 4am cleaning all the pools. You’re in the Caribbean for the heat, if an air conditioner is broken, so what - eat somewhere else or go to your room. If you go looking for faults, you’ll find them, but 99% of a trip can be wonderful and people share low ratings or treat staff like garbage. The only bad part of our trip was the guests who acted like this.*

While the location and facilities are gorgeous, the hotel seems to be barely keeping its head above water.
Some examples:
1. Room service was almost a nonstarter and we wish we had saved our money and booked a room without it. Calling them was a challenge as it would go to voicemail (which was full) or we would be hung up on. I was only able to get through if I called the concierge and was transferred directly. You can then expect about a 90 min wait (if it comes at all).
2. The staff just seem miserable. Not all, but around 80%. It always seemed like we were inconveniencing the staff for something as simple as asking for a new drink or placing your order. The first two folks we interacted with at the front desk and our morning tour guide, set an unpleasant service tone that lasted for the majority of the trip.
We kept this to ourselves the first day until we chatted with multiple couples who said the same thing to us. Made us feel like we were not crazy. Then we checked the google reviews and that confirmed that this was not just us.
3. I've got to imagine my second issue has to do with my 3rd. The hotel is insanely understaffed. Everyone is slammed all the time. Lovers Lane during the evening rush, is a 30 min wait for a drink. It's not because the staff is slow, there was just one bartender working most nights. Any bar during its busy hours was understaffed. Getting house keeping to your room to restock the bar with waters or getting your sheets changed is an all day endeavor with a few different phone calls. Took us 2 days for clean sheets. I'd say 30-40% of the time the phone was not answered at all.
"I'll be right back" from a server or staff member means to not be seen for a long time if not ever again. Ordering a drink from the bar for dinner is 20 min. We learned just to show up with a drink.
Even with this feedback, I do want to share that we did not have a bad time by any means. There was lots of space for privacy, the drinks were strong and it was a great place to relax. But due to the reasons we outlined above, we are holding back from booking another Sandals vacation.

What a brilliant place. Staff are incredible, our Butlers were first class. The Rolls Royce chauffeur on time and very cool. The candle lit dinner on the beach an absolute joy. This place could not disappoint if it tried.

First, the good stuff. Butlers, bar workers, facilities, pools, all top notch. The food at Bombay and Butche's (NOT at the Royal resort) were outstanding. Now the disappointing stuff. We were dropped off at the lounge on arrival. There were 2 employees there who did not greet us, give us a drink, or even a brochure of the property. In fact, nobody we asked could give us a map. Thirty-five minutes later, the butler arrived. The coffee shop had donuts, but no decaf. The waitress at Caribbean Jerk was rude, and instructed my 79 year old wife to "cover your body" (wearing exactly what you would expect a 79 year old woman to wear at the pool)in order to eat at the picnic table next to the pool, while ignoring a 25ish woman who sat across from us in a string bikini. This woman (pony tail, glasses, short) needs to learn tact. Room service was always over an hour.Ordered fish, roulade sauce, potatoes and vegies. No potatoes or sauce delivered. Another time, ordered soup and entree from American Tavern.. Got no spoon. The worst experience by far was Butche's in Royal Barbados. Ordered desert 3 times, and completely ignored by all employees. The place was almost empty, and they were cleaning up, and there we sat, with a table full of dirty dishes. After 1 1/2 hours, walked out in disgust.. Ordered off tv menu at British pub, only to find that they no longer use that menu.This is my 3rd Sandals visit, and the only one I would not visit again. Most of the food was only 2 to 3 stars, and too salty. The lobster was overcooked, rubbery, and tasteless.I suspect that a change in restaurant supervision would be a big plus.Over all, I have had better food at greasy spoon diners. And, for crying out loud, instal shower doors!
