It’s hard to put into words how amazing our stay was — this place truly stole our hearts.
From the moment we arrived, everything felt relaxed, warm, and genuine. No stress, no chaos — just good energy and kind people.
The room was spotless and super comfortable. Huge shout-out to Ms. Zuwena — such a lovely person with the kind of smile that brightens your whole day.
The AC and fan saved our lives in the heat, and you can see that the hotel is constantly improving — newly renovated rooms look really fresh and modern.
Food? One word — incredible. Freshly made breakfasts with exactly what you’re craving, and dinners that felt like fine dining — we still talk about the chicken soup, spring rolls, shrimp, and that warm pineapple dessert (unreal!). You never leave the table hungry here.
The surroundings are calm and green, and the monkeys hanging around the bungalows add a fun vibe — like being in a mini safari park.
But what truly made our holiday so special were the people. Every single person working here gives their heart to the guests.
Special thanks to the legend himself — Manager Sourav. Not only super professional, but also such a great guy. Always around, always helpful, and with time for everyone. Respect, man — hope to meet you again one day!

AVOID THIS HOTEL AT ALL COSTS!
The bathrooms are very old and dirty, and the windows in the rooms don’t even have glass, just netting, which makes the air conditioning completely ineffective.
We booked for 8 nights but decided to leave after just 2 because of the poor conditions. Unfortunately, the manager refused to offer any kind of partial refund, and the customer service was extremely disappointing and very unhelpful.
On arrival, we even found a bloodstain on one of the beds (see photo). Breakfast was extremely minimal, hardly worth mentioning.
For this price, there are much better hotels in Zanzibar. I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere.

It's a really cosy and warm place. You can feel the energy from the place right when you walk in. It's perfekt for relaxing and the food was very delicious. There is also a scuba centre on the site, but you can also book different activities at the hotel directly. Can definitely recommend the place if you want to relax.

The hotel is located in a very calm location, there are some small restaurants around, minimarkets only very small local places with few products. The price of drinks at the bar is decent. The staff shows interest as much as possible to please everyone
The conclusion is that it is 3.5-4 Stars but there are opportunities for many improvements there.

We've just come back from an amazing time at Kena Beach! We were so impressed with the service , management and staff. They couldn't do enough for us. Everything is spotless and the rooms are awesome. The food is very good and well presented. The beach, beautiful well kept swimming pool, the bar , eating area are all on close hand. We will definitely be returning in the future. Wouldn't want to go anywhere else!

Fantastic boutique hotel. Everything you want and more!
Love spending time on the beach watching the tides come in and go out. The hotel offers a beach walk some 600m at low tide into the ocean to see marine life.
Only downside is entire family got sick while here. Everything seems clean and the food well prepared.

It's a great hotel. All the staff were fantastic. The food was great as we're the drinks. The pool was nice. The beach was stunning, with the warm Indian ocean providing a nice backdrop. Every evening, the restaurant had a different entertainment and food theme. Stunning. I'd go back in a heartbeat.

From the drive down to the gates to the entrance and reception area, everything was stunning. We were excellently received, and we felt instantly welcomed by the yum hibiscus and cold towel. The dining area was by the beach, which was dreamy. We couldn't wait to enjoy an afternoon swim in the ocean as well as in the see-through, stunning pool. All the staff were super helpful and the best was the rooms! It was so beautiful, and if i could, I would stay a whole week and more. We were truly spoilt and will definitely be back.

In many aspects, it’s a really great hotel. The rooms are furnished to a high standard, the food options are good, the staff are very helpful, and the pool and beach areas are beautiful. However, I cannot give it five stars as they take all these great things, and then layer on an entertainment menu that feels more suited to a package holiday in lower quality beach resort. For example, aqua aerobics in the pool, or a gymnastic and dance routine while trying to enjoy a peaceful evening meal in the restaurant. For a hotel of this standard, this just seemed a bit odd to us and it would be better without!

I booked with confidence from the earlier reviews, but as our arrival approached, some newer reviews made me nervous. No reason—our stay was fabulous!
We did breakfast included, which was great, and there were tons of walkable restaurants right on the beach plus plenty of markets for shopping. The shower had strong water pressure and hot water (just one afternoon it was lukewarm). Housekeeping was excellent—when I asked for washcloths, extra towels, and conditioner, everything was provided quickly. They even left small flower designs in the room each evening, which was a thoughtful touch.
Check-in and check-out were smooth. The bar service was friendly, though the cocktails could have been mixed a little better. The pool was clean, beach towels were always available, and umbrellas on the sand were easy to grab.
We really enjoyed our stay and the beautiful view from room 234. Would happily return!

e recently spent 9 days at a hotel in Zanzibar and wanted to share a few highlights and helpful observations for future travelers.
When we first arrived, the room we were given had a very strong moldy smell, which was a bit of a letdown—especially if you’re sensitive or have allergies. Thankfully, the hotel staff quickly moved us to another room, which was much better. That said, if you’re particularly sensitive to damp smells, it’s something to keep in mind.
Beyond that, the rooms were clean, the swimming pool was lovely, and the overall facilities were well maintained. We were on an all-inclusive package and were genuinely surprised by the variety and quality of the food. Even after 9 days, we didn’t find it too repetitive, which is rare!
The drinks were fabulous and beautifully presented—definitely a highlight of the stay.
Weather-wise, July brought a lot of clouds, and the sunshine was limited. While not ideal for full-on sunbathing, it’s obviously not something the hotel can control.
What truly made our experience memorable was the exceptional staff—incredibly polite, helpful, and genuinely warm. Their hospitality added something special to our stay and left us with very positive feelings overall.

We had a fantastic 7-day family holiday at Nungwi Beach Hotel. The experience exceeded our expectations in many ways.
Food: Excellent quality with a wide variety of options each day. One evening even featured king prawns, which was a highlight.
Entertainment: Live music during dinner added a great atmosphere and made the evenings special.
Staff: Everyone was friendly, attentive, and genuinely helpful throughout our stay.
Accommodation: Our room was spacious, clean, and very well maintained.
Beach & Sea: Beautiful setting with minimal tidal movement – perfect for relaxing and swimming.
Activities: We went on two dives at the local reef, and the experience was even better than we expected – great visibility and marine life.
Overall, we had an amazing time and would definitely recommend Nungwi Beach Hotel to others looking for a memorable beach holiday.

Stayed here for a week in an ocean view room and honestly quite enjoyed it. The location is super convenient, and having security around was great because they keep street vendors away so you can actually relax.

Nice location by the beach however with nasty unpleasant staff lacking in people & communication skills! The beach in front of the property is full of stinking sea 🌊 weed which needs cleaning up! The staff have no coordination or standards, are pompous & are appalling in behaviour & manners! Overrated & best avoided.

Rooms (especially mine in front of the sea) was very nice, with a good sea ambiance.
Restaurant was good, not especially a good or a bad point but you need to pay your bottle of water when you have a dinner. For the price it’s a little bit stingy… My opinion.

We are family of four that stayed in this resort for a week. Our rooms were new with all the facilities, including air condition, ceiling fan and little refrigirator. Staff is friendly and will do everything it can to fulfill your wishes. Breakfast is good and everybody will find something to eat. Adjacent beach is beautiful. Resort is a little bit isolated hence it takes a long ride to get to Island attractions.

The bartenders, Fidelis and Ramadhan, were phenomenal—such rare gems in service, making every moment memorable. The hotel is location was perfect in my opinion. beautiful beach looking eastward to the ocean with turquoise water that blends breathtakingly with the sand and pine trees.
The hotel is not that far from the airport and is relatively close to the main attractions.
The crew is amazingly kind with smiles all around, trying their best to speak to me in my native language as much as possible.
The pools are fun, the gym equipment is brand new and there tennis courts.
The Scuba Diving team took me on a great scuba session and I've got to see quite a lot.
I had a great massage at the spa.
Thanks to the excursions team we received the best safari experience I could ever imagine and also a great trip to Salaam Cave.
I (24) came with my parents (50) and brother (18) and we had a great time.
Few important notes:
The hotel was built in the 70's, it's maintained well but don't expect brand modernity
Zanzibar is a low-resources island which means the food in the hotel is good but limited, it isn't gourmet.
We arrived during the low season so the hotel was at 20% capacity, because of that there weren't a lot of staff (not that we needed more), there were some constructions and the some areas in the hotel felt abandoned. The weather was perfect though, just some rain but mostly sunny.

Service and staff is very good. Attentive, kind, and professional.
Hotel facilities are on par with a 5 star resort.
(Superior) Rooms are extremely dated. Showers seem unclean due to this, and Mosquito net looks as if it has never been washed. Sliding door for balcony is old and difficult to maneuver. We will not return on account of room quality alone.
We were told the hotel is 25min away from Stone Town, it is in fact a 1 hour drive from Stone Town, even during non peak times. For this reason, the location rating is lower.
Otherwise, great experience.

I was on a business and extended for a few days to enjoy the scenery. It’s so serene and had a great stay. The staff are very nice and welcoming except for the Manager. He was kind of rude. However, the booking desk is not clear about number of occupancy. My husband joined me few days later and we had to pay additional $100/night. That my booking was for single occupancy.
There were some few tiny cockroaches in the room.

All of the staff were truly welcoming and amazing, which made leaving really difficult because you became so attached to them. Especially Rosé made this stay really fantastic with her openness and laughter that made us feel very comfortable around here.

Magnificent hotel with amazing service.
Really relaxing to watch the ocean it’s calming and soothing.
There was an excellent variety of food with different menus for every day.
The staff are very friendly and eager to serve.
One drawback was the beach is a short walk from the hotel so you can’t just walk out onto the beach. The beach area is also very small and the water recedes far from the beach area during low tide.
The huge pools made up for some of the lack of a beach.

Fabulous place to stay! The customer service was exceptional, and nothing was too much trouble. Everyone working there was super friendly, and the atmosphere was laid back and happy. The themed nights in the restaurant were superb, and the attention to detail was amazing. We enjoyed the reef walk, snorkelling, and kayaking when not chilling out in the beautiful surroundings. My husband had a massage, which he thoroughly enjoyed. Beautiful room facing the sea......it already feels like a distant memory.

An amazing all-inclusive resort!
Food: Only breakfast and dinner are included. You can order lunch from multiple places for a price. Both meals have multiple varieties, and they change it on a daily basis. Food is fantastic. They leave you two trays of fresh fruit and fresh juices every night in your room after dinner. We had to tell them not to do so as we were over eating at dinner.
Shout out to Hamida (wait staff), Luc (food and beverage manager), Omar (bar manager), and Asmin (sous chef).
We were a group of 10. Asmin made south Asian dishes for us on a daily basis in breakfast and at dinner. They were really tasty. Everything is halal, which was confirmed multiple times by staff and our guide.
One night, they had a four course dinner which pretty good.
Also, we had a birthday for one of the young ones. They made a cake and the entire wait staff came to sing the birthday which was a really nice touch.
Staff and service: Staff goes above and beyond to help you. They don’t even expect tips, but a couple of bucks goes a long way. I had a few sea urchins in my foot, and staff helped me remove them with needle! Room service is solid.
Location: Resort is about an hour away from the airport and main city. It will cost you $90 for a return trip. If your goal is to just lay on the beach and don't care about going to the city, this is it. There is absolutely nothing, other than a couple of resorts, around it. Resort is located right on the ocean, and it has a public beach where you barely see anyone. Beach is clean, but it has sea weed. Quantity of sea weed depends on a daily basis.
Rooms are large and beds are comfy. Each bed has a mosquito net, which staff put it while you are at dinner.
Bathrooms are clean. Shower design is weird as there is no shower door and shower faces to the open area. If you are not careful, water will spill in the bathroom.
Activities: There is a sign by the reception of daily activities. Not many activities, but that was fine with us. You can take a walking tour (about 2 hours) in the ocean in the morning, which is free. All you have to do is pay $2 for walking shoes, highly recommended. Tour takes you 4 blocks, literally, in the ocean in the low tide and guide explains different marine life. Don't step on a sea urchin!!
You can do kite surfing, paddle boating, kayaking, and other by renting gears or for free from resorts rental center. Guys are wonderful there, especially Godfry, Abdul, and Haseeb. Two of our kids shared an hour of kite surfing, and they only charged us for an hour, which was the right thing to do.
You can sign up for snorkeling, star fish viewing, scuba diving, and other tours from the diving center of the resort. But you are better off doing the basic tours from outside as it is a lot cheaper. For example, diving center wanted to charge $500 for a boat for 6 to 10 people for a snorkeling/star fish viewing/sand bar tour. We got it from someone outside(search on trip advisor) for $150!
The resort provides free umbrellas.
If we ever go back to Zanzibar, we will definitely stay here.

We had an absolutely unforgettable stay at Breezes Beach Club & Spa Zanzibar! From the moment we arrived, the warm and friendly staff made us feel so welcome. The resort itself is stunning, beautifully designed and set right on breathtaking white-sand beaches.
Our room was spacious and spotless. The food was exceptional with plenty of variety each day. As frequent travelers, we are always a bit cautious about food hygiene (having had stomach issues in places like India and Egypt before), but at Breezes we had absolutely no problems at all. Everything was fresh, delicious, and safely prepared.
The beach does experience strong low and high tides, which is something to be aware of, but honestly, we found it fascinating to experience the changing landscape throughout the day. One thing to watch out for: sea urchins are present in the shallow areas, so it is best to bring your own reef shoes for protection (though the resort does provide some if needed).
The electricity can go on and off during the day, but this is a common issue across the island - we even experienced it at the airport! The good news is that the resort has generators that quickly kick in within minutes, so any interruptions are minimal and hardly noticeable.
A small note for divers: the dive center is average compared to others we have experienced internationally. They do not offer Nitrox, diving excursions can be frequently overbooked as they organise small diving groups, and while the dives were pleasant, the marine life is a bit limited. We mostly saw octopus, mantis shrimps, and lobsters, with just one turtle sighting during our stay. It is great for relaxed, easy diving - but probably not ideal for those seeking big pelagics or vibrant reef life.
That said, the overall experience at Breezes more than made up for it. The impeccable service, the relaxed yet luxurious atmosphere, and the beautiful, peaceful setting made this trip truly special. We highly recommend Breezes to anyone visiting Zanzibar.

After an amazing adventure on Safari in Tanzania, it was wonderful to come to Breezes and spend the most fantastic few nights relaxing by the sea. From the minute we entered the Hotel, we were treated to a hidden gem and felt completely relaxed and spoiled. The staff couldn’t do enough for us - they are so friendly and courteous. It is impossible to name everyone but we met Constanza (one of The Managers) at the welcome evening and she was very attentive and made us feel very welcome. Liz, the Trip Advisor, was most helpful in suggesting ideas for our time there and helped organise trips for us and Ali - well what can we say, our personal Swahili lessons were such fun! Asanta sana! Thanks to all the wonderful staff. Oh and the food was out of this world. We cannot recommend this hotel enough and certainly hope to return very soon! A huge thank you to Anna, David, and Dr. Irene for their incredible help with my foot injury.
I unfortunately cut my foot quite badly on a seashell in the ocean. Anna, the F&B supervisor, was the first to come to my aid and quickly called for additional support. David from the recreation team arrived with a first aid kit and, since my foot was bleeding, he even carried me on his back all the way to the hotel clinic. It was quite a distance, and both he and Anna went above and beyond to make sure I was safe. Their care and kindness were truly touching.
I was also very grateful that Diamond Mapenzi has an onsite clinic, which isn’t something every hotel offers. Dr. Irene treated me right away, carefully cleaning and stitching the wound. She was both highly professional and wonderfully compassionate throughout the process.
I’m deeply thankful for the exceptional care, kindness, and professionalism I received. It made a difficult situation so much easier and left me with a very positive impression of the team and the hotel.
In addition, the hotel has amazing beach view with about 50-100 meters of white sand bank from the shore. The water is waist level.
Food was really good. I particularly enjoyed the food made by a Chef from Sri Lanka.

Amazing experience for our family, arriving to rest and relax after a long Safari.
Great food, friendly staff, and cool activities and entertainment on most nights.
Three issues to improve:
1. The AC in our room was very noisy at times, which bothered me as a light sleeper. But the maintenence staff arrived quickly on both times we complained.
2. With such great local essential oils, I would suggest to add some air refreshments device to the washrooms, as the smell is sometimes not so great.
3. The nice local people at the hotel's beach didn’t leave us alone even if we asked multiple times, just followed us and then asked for tips.

The room was really nice and clean. All the common places were super nice as well. The food was amazing.
The highlight of the trip was definitely the staff. Everyone is super helpful, nice and welcoming. We were feeling like we were royal family or some kind of celebrities :)
We've enjoyed a lovely beach dinner where our waitress Courage made us feel super special. She also does great photos!
I want to thank our wonderful waitress Mary, who saved me with a fresh ginger tea when my stomach was feeling funny. She was also super nice for us the whole stay, both at the breakfast buffet and Green&Grill.
On top of that we want to thank Deborah, Jonah and Sarah from the bar, lovely lady with blue eyes working at Mama PawPawBar which name I did not catch and all the other staff members we've met - the restaurants, the beach bar, cleaning services who were decorating our room super nice, the drivers, gardening crew who made us a lovely flower decoration and always greeted us nicely.
The hotel offers a variety of attractions and classes - our favorite was definitely the Zanzibar Ubuntu show in the evening.
The only disadvantage I can think of is the fact that when you go out on the beach in front of the hotel you will meet a lot of people offering their services and items for sale. They are quite hard to loose even when you say "no thank you" and when you want to just enjoy a beach walk by yourself. I think this is an universal Zanzibar experience though. I felt very safe though, thanks to the security guards standing nearby.

The entire hotel staff are absolutely wonderful - they are always friendly and welcoming. They are really what makes this place great.
The buffet food was great and our room was wonderful. The room and hotel in general were immaculately clean. Even the beach along the nearby coast is crystal clear and clean.
I would say the water for showering isn't great but I'm not sure there's a whole lot that can be done about that. The hotel is also quite far from Stone Town/the airport, so be prepared to book a lot of taxis if you have things to do on the west side of the island.

The Island Pongwe Lodge in Zanzibar is a real hidden gem. With just six bungalows, it’s super peaceful and perfect if you want to relax and get away from it all. The hotel has direct access to the beach, so you can enjoy the ocean whenever you like. The staff is amazing – really friendly and helpful. We went just for dinner, but it was amazing. The hotel is in an small little island, what makes it very special. We went in high tide, so they picked up us in small boat from the coast. We were driving by for lunch. The place is good, with the nice ocean view. The food was ok, but nothing very special, you can get the same on every restaurant. Sangria jug was not good, too much water in the jug and too much cinnamon. The major thing for average rate is cheating with rate. If you want to pay in shillings, they tell you a story that they have to purchase dollars, and the rate is real, but it's at least 12% more than official. Be aware of such stupid cheating.

Meliá Zanzibar is a beautiful resort in a stunning location, with expansive grounds and genuinely warm, always-smiling staff.
There’s plenty to enjoy — from exploring the gardens to relaxing by the pool or beach. We also attended a wedding here, which was flawlessly executed and set against a picture-perfect backdrop.
But despite the lovely setting, our stay had its disappointments.
The rooms are tired and in need of serious refurbishment — paint marks, lingering odours, broken switches, and recurring issues with water pressure and hot water. An iron even stained my shirt before an event. Some staff ignored basic housekeeping etiquette.
To be fair, the manager was attentive, acknowledged some challenges (like infrastructure issues), and made amends — which we appreciated. But it’s hard to accept that while new villas are being built in the premium area (The Level), the rest of the hotel is left behind. There’s a clear divide in service and standards — and it shows.
Food was generally excellent, though breakfast became repetitive after a few days.
Ultimately, unless you’re staying in The Level, the resort doesn’t offer great value for money. And while it’s marketed as all-inclusive, be aware — many items incur extra charges, from certain dishes and premium drinks to, surprisingly, coconuts.
A truly vast, expansive and beautiful hotel, but one that needs to invest more in uplifting the entire experience — not just the VIP section.

The whole place is just stunning, gorgeous gardens, a beautiful beach, and the room was pure comfort with unreal views.
What really made the stay special though was the staff. Everyone was so warm and welcoming. A big shoutout to Pedro and the rest of the staff! absolute legends, they really looked after us and made us feel right at home.
The food was top-notch too, loads of variety and flavour. We especially loved the meals down at Gabi Beach, proper magic.
Can’t recommend this place enough if you’re looking to relax and recharge. We’ll definitely be back thanks a million guys!

This place is stunning and sooooo relaxing. The bungalow was so cute! I wish we had many more nights to spend here just lounging at the pool.
My only “complaint” was that this location seemed a little more unorganized with communication and not as on top of it as other Melia locations. Issues were fixed very quickly by the staff but it caused for some awkward moments. Their shuttle system could use some help as well.

Ended up not wanting to leave😭.The vibe of the whole place is something else, calm, tropical, and just beautifully designed without being over the top. The views? Unreal. I still catch myself looking at photos of the ocean from my room.I used the gym almost every day (which never happens on holiday) because it was actually enjoyable, clean, spacious, and had everything I needed.
The food surprised me, not your average all-inclusive. Flavour, variety, and no corners cut. Gabi Beach became my happy place.
But what really stuck with me was the staff. Everyone was kind and warm, genuine people who made the stay feel personal.
If you’re thinking about it, just book! I already want to go back🥹

One of the better hotels in Zanzibar, this resort delivers the total package with beachside living and accommodation that is overall excellent.
Staff are friendly and helpful always trying to help. The rooms are very well appointed and comfortable with large bathrooms. You can choose between garden or sea view and the new the Level, offer private villas and a private area to dine and swim at.
In general dining was good, make sure you book the Jetty as having lunch with the view is a lovely way to spend an afternoon!
The gym is spacious and has a lap pool and spa area available for grownups only.
The resort is currently undergoing major upgrades and additional villas as they are changing the resort to a Grand Melia.

I can’t stress enough on how nice the staff are. They are so friendly, kind, helpful, and extremely cheerful. The hotel is so clean and very aesthetic. Overall very nice place to stay so good for families. There was an event almost every day to stay entertained. Food and drinks were very nice.

We had an absolutely incredible stay at The Mora in Zanzibar!
The food was fantastic, everything we tried was delicious. Jua Grill was a definite highlight, and the main buffet restaurant Horizon offered so much variety and amazing flavors. The beach restaurant was also delicious, however the service there was quite slow. Overall, the all-inclusive package really exceeded expectations with its wide selection of food and drinks.
The beach itself is stunning, with soft white sand, crystal clear water, and extremely well-kept. The security team is excellent and really makes you feel at ease while relaxing. The property is very large, but thankfully there are golf carts available on call to take you around, whether to the beach or to dinner, which made everything so convenient.
A very special mention has to go to George Gabriel. From the moment we arrived, George welcomed us with warmth and joy, helped us with check-in, and made us feel at home immediately. Every day he greeted us like “his family,” remembered all our names, and went out of his way to make our experience unforgettable. We even found ourselves requesting George specifically to pick us up on golf carts because we enjoyed his company so much. He shared stories about the property, local culture, and traditions, making our stay even more meaningful.
Thank you George, you were truly the highlight of our trip and made our holiday so memorable.

I recently had the absolute pleasure of staying at The Mora in Zanzibar, and it was nothing short of exceptional.
From the moment we arrived, the environment felt like a true sanctuary — beautifully designed spaces, lush surroundings, and a serene atmosphere that instantly put me into holiday mode. The food was exquisite, with every meal offering fresh, flavorful, and carefully prepared dishes that made dining a highlight of the stay.
What truly stood out, though, was the staff and service. Every interaction was warm, attentive, and genuine. The team consistently went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect, creating an experience that felt both personal and luxurious.
Most importantly, The Mora gave me the space to truly rest, recharge, and enjoy quality time. It’s rare to find a destination that delivers on every level — environment, cuisine, service, and overall experience — but The Mora achieved exactly that.
I cannot recommend this resort highly enough for anyone looking for an unforgettable escape in Zanzibar. I left feeling absolutely wonderful and refreshed!

The hotel looks nice, but the experience was very disappointing.
The car service booked through the hotel never showed. We had difficulty getting anyone at the hotel to assist, and when we finally got a call 55 minutes after reaching out, Christopher, the front-end manager, hung up on us. After waiting an hour in the hot sun, we paid for a cab ourselves. We were told we’d be refunded for the car service, but 7 days later, no refund has appeared.
My first room wasn’t set up properly, and after a day we were moved to an ocean view room. They had to change the sheets after we moved, as they were not clean. The bathroom had black mold on the ceiling and a strong mildew smell in the mattress.
The beach itself was beautiful, but right in front of the access point there were around 50 small boats with locals constantly trying to sell tours and goods. The hotel did have a semi-private section near the beach chairs, which helped keep most of the hustling away from that area.
Members of our group also became sick, with salmonella confirmed by culture when we returned to the US.
Laundry service was returned some clothes with stains or damp.
I would be remiss to not mention the rest of the staff, particularly Issa, were fantastic and kind. Unfortunately, their efforts couldn’t make up for the serious management, health, and safety issues.

The resort itself is very nice and the staff are generally kind. However, I had a very disappointing and frustrating experience with the reception regarding a safari tour and transportation.
Upon arrival, I booked a safari tour directly through reception. On the day of the safari, I was told to be at reception at 4:45 PM. No one came to pick me up, and the night-shift receptionist insisted that no reservation or flight existed under my name. After I pushed, they eventually arranged a taxi, telling me it would cost €85 for a round trip to the airport where I could buy the safari ticket.
I managed to go on the safari, but when I returned, I was shocked to be told the cost was actually €170 for the taxi. Later, I discovered that the official fixed price to the airport is only €40 each way (€80 round trip) — something I confirmed when I booked my own transfer to the airport for my flight home.
When I questioned the overcharge, the receptionist continued to call me, pressuring me to pay the extra amount and not report the incident (which made me suspect some personal profit was involved). Unfortunately, I couldn’t find any police assistance nearby, as the area outside the resort was chaotic.
⚠️ Warning to other travelers: Be very careful with the reception and taxi mafia arranged through them. They significantly overcharge compared to the official fixed rates. It’s a real pity, because the resort itself is lovely, but this experience left a very bad impression.

Great all inclusive! They have a variety of activities, good entertainment and food. In particular the omelette for breakfast at the buffet restaurant and the chicken wrap at the bar closest to the beach. The cliff had a nice seafood chowder. Couldn't recommend Royal Zanzibar Beach Resort more. From the moment we stepped into the hotel, we were welcomed with genuine warmth by the staff. Every team member - from the concierge to housekeeping - was attentive, courteous, and clearly passionate about delivering top-notch service. They made the entire experience feel personalised, as if we were long-anticipated guests in their home. Particularly, I would like to mention Ibrahim and Nitin and thank them for their professionalism. Also, the food was an absolute perfection. The variety on offer was impressive, catering beautifully to every taste and dietary preference. The entertainment lineup was far beyond expectation. Live music in the evenings created a vibrant yet relaxing atmosphere, and the performers were talented and engaging. There were also themed nights and shows that added a unique charm to each day of the stay. This hotel isn’t just a place to stay - it’s an experience. I’d also love to thank the amazing team: Atila, Rashid, Khadija, Khalfan, Chef Oscar, Erick and many others whose names I can’t remember but whose kindness I’ll never forget. Every staff member was friendly, attentive, and made an effort to call guests by name — such a special detail that made me feel truly seen.
The rooms were cleaned daily with care, mosquito repellent was regularly applied, and the environment felt safe and peaceful. Breakfast service was always smooth, and dinner was a delightful event every night — with live shows, changing menus, African dance performances, Maasai shows, and talented local singers. Every night felt unique and full of spirit.
I had so much fun and made memories that I will carry with me forever. Even though I’m back home now, my heart stayed in Zanzibar. Thank you to the entire Bluebay family for making me feel so special.

This place is heaven on earth. The hotel and the grounds are gorgeous and in a perfect location for a relaxing stay. From the moment you enter you will feel at peace. The rooms are very private and well maintained. The beds are super comfy and the shower/ bathroom is incredible.
The service of the staff is amazing. The drinks selection for all inclusive is varied and the food is very good. I am a fussy eater and have managed to eat very well. My husband is less fussy and has enjoyed the range of more exotic foods. The a la carte restaurants are also wonderful.
The beach is also wonderful but there are beach peddlers selling various things which can be a little off-putting but that is our only complaint and outside of the hotels control. There is a security guard on the beach to ensure they do not harrass guests on the loungers on the private area of the beach.
10/10 stay. We cannot wait to visit again

We spent two weeks staying the resort and had the most amazing memorable Easter break. The Staff was amazing and went above and beyond. A special thanks to Kevin and Dass. We felt truly home and enjoyed all the activities the resort organised for the guests. Especially for the kids the Easter egg hunt, the mini marathon beach run, the boat "regatta " race to arts class. We can t wait to return.

This review will cover the resort and somethings about the island as a whole. I have nothing but good things to say about Bluebay and Sulton. I had read in past reviews that at this resort black people are not catered to, however, this was not the experience of my sorority sister and I. We received excellence service and accommodations. We felt welcomed and had a wonderful time. Shoutout to Ms. Fatima, Oscar, Grace, and Jamu at bluebay! Shoutout to Mr. Kevin at Sulton who provided excellent service and princess treatment. I recommend that anyone choose bluebay or Sulton. We had an awesome experience at the Spa as well. This resort is about an hour away from everything and it's a quiet and relaxing resort. The vibe is not "party hardy". There are also a lot of European visitors to the island of Zanibar. You will not see a lot of black American visitors depending on where you are. If you are younger or you like to party and like loud this is not the resort for you. Also this is an all inclusive resort but it does not include everything... you have to pay a price or extra for some alcoholic beverages. I didn't have an issue because the alcohol that was included I was able to drink. My sorority sister however did not drink a lot of the alcohol due the options that were available and having to pay extra for alcohol like Jack Daniel's or Bacardi. I am not a picky person so I have nothing bad to say about the alcohol choices or foods. Housekeeping services were well and I appreciated my Housekeeper Mariam. I booked with bluebay but we stayed on the Sulton side in the beautiful bungalow oceanview front rooms. The Maasai Tribe workers were awesome and friendly. All in all I take away that Zanibar is a nice quiet island for pure relaxation! You will not get the same party vibes that you will get somewhere like a Jamaica or a west Africa (Ghana). My sorority sister and I did go out to cocobella. It's a night club and bluebay set up our transportation! We had a great time and our driver was awesome! There were of course a lot of European/white people at the club and they played a mixture of music ( a lot of edm music). But cocobella is a big nice club and they have two parts. In the red room is where most of the afrobeats and reggae was played. All in all I will be returning to Zanibar and I will definitely stay at Bluebay/Sulton again! My sorority sister will probably not return. She said the resort was too quiet for her and the island as a whole. She wanted the resort to have more bar music during the day instead of just at night during the shows. The entertainment was awesome in my opinion by the way! At night some of the bars did have music and I had a great time. As I get older I appreciate some peace and quiet. All in all the staff made me feel welcomed and appreciated even though I didn't see a lot of other "tourists" who looked like me the staff made up for that. The only thing I didn't like was the harassment on the beach by the locals for money or to buy things... but I've been to Africa before so this is common. So if you are reading this review remember Zanibar is a beautiful place with beautiful beaches and people. The island is not as developed and it is poor but the people are very nice here and you will not see a lot of black tourists mainly European/White tourists. We stayed here with family expecting an all-inclusive beach resort, but I want to clarify that there is no direct beach access from the property. To reach the beach, you have to arrange and pay for transportation, which takes about an hour each way. There are also no beach activities offered. In reality, this is more of a pool resort than a beach resort. If you’re specifically looking for a place to enjoy the beach, I’d recommend going elsewhere so you don’t waste your time or money.

I truly want to send more clients to this property because it’s a gem. The location is stunning with beautiful views, and the food was exceptional—full of flavor and beautifully presented. The manager was very responsive to our concerns, which I appreciated.
That said, there were issues that should not occur at a 5-star resort. We had seven rooms booked, and due to problems such as a broken fan, broken tv, no hot water, and soiled linens (which appeared overly worn and in need of replacement), we needed to change three of the rooms. While the manager addressed these concerns promptly, it was frustrating and not the relaxing start we had hoped for.
The staff could benefit from additional training in maintaining the rooms to 5-star standards—ensuring shower heads, linens, and towels are properly cleaned and replaced when necessary. Dingy white linens and towels diminish the luxury experience guests expect at this level.
Once issues were raised, they were handled immediately, which I commend. However, a true 5-star experience should not require constant communication to resolve such matters.
This property has so much potential, and I sincerely hope to see great improvements under the new management. It would be a shame for guests to miss out on its beauty. For reference, the location is about an hour and a half from Stone Town, which worked well for us as we enjoyed the resort’s activities and took a tour into Stone Town during our stay.

Loved the room. Unfortunately the hot tub on the deck only worked one night, they never fixed it and wouldn't let me change rooms. And someone stole all of my usb memory sticks out of the room when I was not there. The food was great. Tiny beach only accessible at low tide. The staff was very friendly.

A little slice of paradise!
We spent an amazing week at Gold Zanzibar Beach House and absolutely loved every moment of it! The rooms were spotless, beautifully appointed, and very comfortable. The staff was incredibly kind and attentive, always making sure we felt welcome and well taken care of—especially with the kids, which we really appreciated.
The food was outstanding! Both restaurants offered delicious dishes with an impressive variety, and every meal felt like a treat. The swimming pool was large, clean, and perfect for relaxing!
Everything was so well organized, and the atmosphere was peaceful and luxurious. We truly had a wonderful stay and would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a relaxing and memorable getaway.

We stayed at Gold Zanzibar for our honeymoon and it was perfect! We stayed in the garden villa which was so spacious, and the private plunge pool was very fun to have. The staff was all so helpful, and even had our room set up with a complimentary bottle of champagne and fruit on arrival. Our butler, Jackeline, was so kind and attentive as well! There are shows with dinner each night which are very fun, and the buffet food is PHENOMENAL! We also had a body wrap and massage at the spa which was lovely, and did a spice tour and sunset dhow sailboat cruise through the hotel which were great. The hotel even gifted us a romantic dinner on the beach and the sailboat cruise as honeymoon presents which was very generous. The private beach cabanas were so nice to have, as the portion of the beach where it becomes public can be a bit hectic. Highly recommend staying here!

I had the most wonderful Easter holiday experience (three nights stay) with my family, thanks to the exceptional service and hospitality at this hotel. From the moment we arrived, the staff were incredibly warm, attentive, and genuinely accommodating, making us feel right at home.
The rooms were immaculate, spotlessly clean, cozy, and well-equipped with modern amenities that made our stay extra comfortable. The food was another highlight: a delicious and diverse spread every day that pleased every palate in our family.
What truly set this stay apart, though, was the creativity and thoughtfulness behind the various experiences offered. There was something for everyone: exciting kayaking adventures, fun swimming pool activities for adults and kids (to mention a few), and evening entertainment that brought everyone together such as traditional dances, a live music band, and even a choir performance. Every detail was tailored to celebrate the Easter spirit and cater to the diverse interests of guests.
The facilities were top-notch and maintained with great care. Whether relaxing by the pool or exploring the different activities, we always felt well taken care of.

Don’t look beyond this hotel if you are a family travelling for the calm views of the turquoise hues. The hotel is spectacular. Super clean beach and beyond gorgeous property. We had an ocean front villa which was amazing. We travelled with our two year old son and the attention to detail the hotel had was something. They even put a booster seat on our bicycle so we can could move around the property with ease. The food and just super. It was my birthday so we spent the evening at the jetty bar. Overall one of the best stays I’ve had in Africa.
Tip: choose to stay here towards the end of your trip and go all inclusive. You won’t be disappointed.

We loved our stay at the Residence. The staff is super friendly and helpful. The rooms are very luxurious, with all the amenities you could ask for, including bikes to move around the hotel. We would have stayed here for ever!
They also give you a catamaran ride for free, as well as paddle boarding and kayaking.
Also, as we were on our honeymoon they gave us a complementary massage (so great!) and a romantic dinner by the beach.
We recommend it for honey moons as it is very romantic!

One of the most special touches was the bicycle experience around the property, which felt both romantic and fun. The private pools add a luxurious feel, and the Pavilion is an absolute must-try for dinner—it was one of our highlights.
The food overall was good, though we felt the variety in the main dining room could be improved. For tours, I recommend booking with outside companies rather than through the hotel, as they offer similar experiences at a much lower cost.
A small tip for future guests: double-check the weather before you visit. During our stay, it was too cold to enjoy our private pool, as the water wasn’t heated.

Booked 2 private pool villas at the residence with my friends. The resort did not disappoint one bit! You honestly don't need to leave the resort since everything is included. Ahmad the receptionist was a great help and provided just the best service which helped make our stay even more comfortable. The rooms were fully equipped and super clean. Staff come to prepare the bed for you when the sun sets. Although the breakfast was continental it could have been slightly better with more options. Also tried the spa services which was also a great choice. They host dinner with a show I think every night which is a great experience for visitors. Would definitely recommend staying here and choosing the private villa and will definitely be visiting again.

Arriving at the Residence was very beautiful and service was very friendly. Check in went good but we thought we had a different room than advised Got to the room and it was different. We get back to check on the room and they said they stopped cleaning it because someone told them we are ok with our current room! Absolutely unacceptable! No one said that we complain to our greeter that the person on the phone was rude and nasty! Said he would fix it and find out who it was. Never said anything about we were find. In my opinion Ahmad is lying. He stopped the room from being clean for us and Ahmad stated he spoke to the person who was on the phone being rude but in all it was him. He stated when we leave a review the owner of The residence does not care so we can leave a review of our experience. It will not affect them. We are now waiting another hour for a room to be cleaned! Ahmad will not make any accommodations or discounts towards our inconvenience.Only a bottle of champagne that we already have for our anniversary anyway. He basically told us it’s not a problem it’s miscommunication but it is not its a problem. We wasted a whole day. Got here at 1 still not in the upgrade we stated we would pay for and promised at 4:47 pm. Been here for a week and this is the worst service I have gotten. We are also by a room that has a construction structure by it with a cone.keep having to block it out my pictures Not happy at all… a wasted day. Keep you posted on rest of the time.

First class hotel, as you would expect at a Park Hyatt. Rooms were roomy and ours had an ocean view. Bathroom was plenty big for two people to both use. The Park Hyatt Zanzibar is perfectly located in Stone Town and has beautiful views of the sunset and the local life. The hotel has a beautiful historic story and the interior decorations are done to reflect that.
The reception we received when arriving at the hotel from the gentlemen at the entrance was welcoming and warm. The concierge gave us a tour of the hotel grounds and then brought as to our spacious and well appointed room. He made us feel very special and welcome.
The pool is overlooking the beach and is beautiful but the glass needs to be cleaned a bit so you can see better. Beautiful outdoor seating area and dining area. In the early evening there are quite a bit of mosquitos so bring spray.
Book walking city tours with the hotel directly and no one else.
Overall most of the staff were exceptional however there were a couple who did not meet the standards.
We enjoyed our stay at the Park Hyatt Zanzibar and when in Stonetown, this is absolutely the place to stay.

Breakfast was also very nice and was included. The hotel is close to many of the attractions in Stone town. The pool is clean and there were plenty of chairs when we went. I stayed at White Sand Luxury Villas, Zanzibar for two days, and it was one of the most peaceful, thoughtfully managed properties I’ve experienced.
The 2-bedroom family villa was spacious and pristine, with a private pool and elegant touches throughout. One of the most surreal moments was waking up to the sound of birds, trees swaying, water moving in the pool, and watching the white curtains hung around the bed and at the doors move gently in the breeze. It’s hard to describe how peaceful it felt; the environment itself did all the work.
One detail that really stood out: even though the beach is public, the hotel meticulously maintains the stretch it overlooks. As the tide recedes, staff regularly clean the sand and remove algae. It’s something many resorts overlook, but here it’s done quietly and consistently.
They provide electric bikes for exploring both the property and its surroundings, which added a laid-back but convenient touch. The dining was excellent. The set menu, breakfast, and dinner were beautifully plated and genuinely enjoyable. I appreciated the cultural live music performances during dinner, which added depth without feeling performative.
Service was discreet and well-paced. Having a private butler was useful, though I preferred keeping things low-contact. A mention to Germina, who handled dinner service with a calm confidence and professionalism that didn’t go unnoticed.
White Sand is the kind of place you go to disconnect without sacrificing standards. Quiet, refined, and exactly what it promises to be.

The resort is in good condition and well kept, the views are spectacular and rooms spacious and clean.
The people are friendly and helpful. We were on the all inclusive treat and would have preferred for the bar to serve beer in a bottle and not pour in a glass as the beer gets flat.
The pool is huge and kept clean on a daily.
Would return again if given the chance.

We enjoyed ourselves as a group at the hotel. We appreciated the three generous and scrumptious meals a day and the after hours entertainment. The rooms are forever clean with a good supply of fresh water. They can just refresh the state of the bathrooms. This is one place we will go back to anytime.

We had the opportunity to spend our honeymoon at Uroa Bay Beach Resort in Zanzibar, where we stayed for 9 days. It was a pleasant experience, which we recommend to other tourists who want to explore this wonderful island.
The resort restaurant impressed us with the diversity and quality of the food offered. The menu included a wide range of dishes, both local and international, and every meal was a delight. Fresh seafood and exotic desserts were among our favorites.
The atmosphere in the restaurant was relaxing and romantic with a gorgeous view of the ocean and the sound of the waves in the background. The staff were friendly and attentive, contributing to a pleasant dining experience.
However, it should be noted that while our experience was pleasant, compared to other 4-star hotels on the island, Uroa Bay Beach Resort does not live up to the same level of luxury and authenticity. I have noticed that other 4 star hotels offer more sophisticated and better maintained facilities and services.
In conclusion, Uroa Bay Beach Resort is a good option for those who want to enjoy the beauty of Zanzibar and a varied culinary experience. We recommend this place for a relaxing holiday, although for those looking for a true 4 star luxury experience, there are other options on the island that may be more suitable.

Had a great time on our honeymoon. Comfortable, spacious rooms with everything we needed. There is building works going on next door - not the fault of the hotel, but was a bit noisy from 7.30am most days. The shower was also a little unpredictable (I think on solar power, though so couldn't be helped). Pool was quiet and plenty of loungers available. Food was good and always a nice variety. We also enjoyed a few massages for a very reasonable price.Tours are available through the hotel but we just took the time to relax and enjoy the sea view. The hotel is right on the beach so very convenient, however you will not see tourists staying there, only walking as you will be approached by people trying to sell you things - all very friendly and didn't feel unsafe, just a bit irritating (not the fault of the hotel, but something to be aware of!) One of the best parts of the hotel is the staff. Everyone is incredibly attentive and friendly. Special call outs to Rahma and Emanuela (waitresses) for excellent service, Francis (bellboy) for always being so helpful, and Venance (bartender) for sharing his local knowledge and excellent drink recommendations!

Really nice place and location, close to the sea. The buffet is perfect and has a lot of variety for everyone. The rooms are very clean and they spray bugspray for your protection. Only the shower wasn’t the best, but that’s a detail. The staff is really friendly and always ready to help you. We loved staying here :))
