Hanoi

When it comes to the bustling capital of Vietnam, few places really compare. Perhaps it’s the chaotic streets, filled with scooters weaving in and out of traffic, or maybe it’s the colourful architecture, allowing visitors a glimpse into the French and Chinese occupation of Vietnam, or perhaps it’s the charming locals. When it comes to Hanoi, one thing’s for sure - this humming metropolis is an adventure-seeker’s paradise.

Holidays to Hanoi are like no other, in a sense that it’s like you’re in two cities at once. On the one hand, there’s the golden temples and sleepy sacred spaces that have stood for centuries, and on the other side there’s the twinkling cityscape, hedonistic nightlife and lavish hotels - a holiday in Hanoi really does have it all.

Hanoi highlights

Hanoi is jam packed full of landmarks and surprises, so it would be impossible to pack everything into a couple of weeks. Culture vultures will love exploring the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and ancient political centre of Vietnam. The central flag tower is a sight to behold - standing at 40 metres tall.

Hanoi holidays are perfect for people who like to stroll and take in their surroundings. Walk around the Hoan Kiem Lake and explore the Ngoc Son Temple, before watching the sunset over the magnificent views of the lake.

For a real taste of old Vietnam, a visit to the Hanoi Old Quarter is a must. Here you can wander through tiny pavements and barter with street vendors. If you’re here, you have to try some of the delicious street food on offer - we recommend Xoi (chicken sticky rice).

Just 58km away from downtown Hanoi is the Ba Vi National Park. Here you can hike up forest-clad hills and enjoy some peace and tranquility, away from the chaos of the city. Once you reach the top, you’ll discover a magnificent temple, which dates back to the 11th century, as well as breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.

Hanoi weather

Due to its close proximity to the equator, Hanoi enjoys hot temperatures throughout the year. However, it also has a tropical climate - meaning that there are wet and dry seasons. The best time to visit Hanoi is between September and November, and March and April. The climate during this time is warm and dry, but isn’t too hot.
