This is a huge resort. It is very picturesque and pleasing to the eye. Initial impression was enticing and provoked curiosity. My favorite experiences were the karaoke room, the spa and the adult pool. This resort has a lot to offer. Several restaurants, a water splash park, fitness activities. You name it. However too many times too often I felt like I was at a bus station or an airport. There were long lines for food, ill proper buffet manners, tons of children some without adults and heavy foot traffic in between places. This had to be my least favorite part. That and The mosquitos. Just a few too many of those as well. Our room had an outside terrace but it was full of mosquitos, many got in our room and visited during shower time. Not fun at all. Apparently it was rain season but they definitely went to work on our skin. Itching after vacation is pretty miserable. They will try to sell you many things on this resort as well. Even after I checked out a saleswoman ran up to me attempting to “share an opportunity of a lifetime”. So gouging for money is at an all time high. Overall I had a good time with my friends and family but I don’t see myself returning. This trip lacked a cultural connection to the destination and with so many things you’re paying for, leaving the resort barely makes sense. I also just wasn’t a fan of the amount of people. All inclusive does not mean exclusive. So keep that in mind.

DO NOT USE THE TAXI AFFILIATED WITH THE HOTEL. We stayed in the Nizuc and had a wonderful experience overall, the hotel grounds were beautiful, peaceful, and never too crowded. The food was excellent, and the staff throughout the resort were warm, attentive, and genuinely kind. It’s a fantastic place to relax and enjoy yourself. Unfortunately, our experience was let down on departure by the taxi service operating in affiliation with the hotel. I asked at the front desk for a taxi to the airport and was told to go outside to the bell boys, who helpfully arranged one for us and quoted US$35 for the journey. When the taxi arrived and we set off, the driver informed us that the fare was actually $70. When I explained that we’d been quoted $35, the driver insisted and pulled over to the side of the road, saying we could pay by card. She then charged us 1,800 pesos (about $86). We had our 13-month-old baby and all our luggage with us, so we had little choice but to pay rather than be stranded at the roadside. I raised the issue with the hotel afterward, they did look into it and were clearly unhappy about what happened, and arranged a small refund of 250 pesos, but ultimately refused to take any responsibility or assist further. It’s a real shame because the resort itself is outstanding, but guests should be aware that the affiliated taxi services are not transparent about pricing. I’d strongly recommend confirming any fare in writing before leaving the hotel. Had it not been for this incident and the hotel’s response I would have given it 5 stars.

The resort is overrated for what it offers. The beach is disappointing—small, rocky, and not very walkable compared to others. The rooms are cramped, with double beds that make the space feel tight and far from luxurious. Unfortunately, the constant upselling from staff ruined the experience. Every interaction felt like an attempt to sell something, and once you decline, the friendliness fades quickly. We were taken to what was described as a “presentation,” only to find it was a hard sell for a $20,000 membership. No one disclosed this beforehand, and we ended up stuck there for two hours. When we declined, the manager followed us and smirked as we walked away—completely unprofessional and left us at a location we were not familiar with. We received water park passes in return, but the park is tiny—just two slides and nothing special. The so-called resort credits are also misleading, as they can barely be used for anything meaningful. But the food was decent. Lots of food options . I wouldn’t not go for authentic flavors but it’s always good to have variety on a vacation. The spa was great and massage experience was very good although overpriced . Overall a huge resort. Lots for kids to do . There was something akwAys going around. Never had a moment to get bored. We booked tours through the resort . Definitely higher price than outside but we liked the convenience and the tours were good. Not sure if we want to come back here though as would be nice to try other places and nothing exceptional about here that you don’t get at other all inclusive places .

Highlights: Moon Palace sunrise was perfect for our family trip with young children. They loved the kids’ water area and the play room. Restaurants were accommodating with high chairs and plate modifications (smaller versions of entrees). Room service usually took about 30 minutes. Servers and staff were super kind and accommodating. I love when people act kindly even when they know they aren’t getting a tip. Julia and Laura at the salon were very kind, we also loved our servers at Gondola and Riviera Maya. My favorite things were the Flow Rider, Riviera Maya restaurant, and the spa. Keep in mind: The spa and golf facilities were really fun to use with resort credits, but there’s a cap of $300 on the credits for the spa, which sounds like a lot but here they over inflate the prices for everything. Also remember that your resort credit won’t pay extra resort fees and taxes. Expect to wind up paying about $250 per person even if you do all your activities on credits. Expect to walk a lot because this place is huge, they do have golf carts to shuttle you around though. Anticipate a 20 min transit time between Sunrise/Nizuc/Grand and the golf/spa/restaurant complex. Downsides: the beach stinks, literally. There’s a ton of sargassum especially on the north end and no one was using the beach. There are some photos on the website depicting perfectly blue beach water but it’s not true, we drove to hotel zone and Maroma for our beach days. I echo what others have said that there can be some pressuring to “upgrade” to the Grand and attend the membership meeting. Not necessary. Sure the facilities in the grand are newer but there were enough places to eat at Sunrise alone, enough to do, and most the rooms at Sunrise had an ocean view. Most at the grand don’t. I’d only do it if you really wanted a water park but you could just choose a different resort with a water park at a cheaper price point if that was your goal. Funny details: all the workers are required to say “it’s a pleasure” in response to “thank you”, but the more appropriate phrase in English in my opinion would be “my/our pleasure” or “you’re very welcome”. Also the app is chock full of AI illustrations and animations.

Moon Palace is a nice hotel but dated. It was nice to see plenty of staff for your needs. The rooms were adequate for the price, we went during the off season so it was cheaper. I would not pay peak pricing for this hotel. We went for a wedding as a large group and they did a good job with that. It was in close proximity to Funky Geisha which was nice. Biggest downside is the ocean. They clean it constantly but you can't go in due to bacteria and the smell is terrible throughout the day.
