I would like to share a positive experience at Barceló Colonial Riviera Maya. I accidentally left my hoodie in the theater one evening. At first, it could not be found, so I reported it as lost. The resort staff took the situation seriously, stayed in touch, and continued searching. Eventually, the item was found in another hotel within the Barceló complex, which includes several resorts. I truly appreciate the effort, coordination between the hotels, and the honesty involved in returning my lost item. Situations like this show the professionalism of the staff and give guests peace of mind. Thank you to the team for resolving this issue and for the good service overall. I am happy with my stay.

We had an incredible stay at Barceló Maya Colonial and would highly recommend it. One of the first things that stood out was how clean and well maintained the entire resort is. You can tell a lot of care goes into every detail. The buffet and restaurants were amazing with an impressive variety of food. No matter what we were in the mood for there was always something fresh delicious and satisfying. What truly made our stay special were Jovany Martinez and Alfredo Tinah our buffet waiters. They went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed, seen and genuinely valued every single day. Their kindness, attention and warmth added so much to our experience. Overall an excellent resort with outstanding service. We would absolutely return

I’ve never had an experience this bad at any resort, let alone one that costs this much. Where do I even start? The food was completely inedible. Multiple meals came out with hair in them, the buffet had bugs crawling on the tables, and somehow the food was still undercooked. Two people in my room got so sick they couldn’t leave the bathroom. We literally went three full days without being able to eat a proper meal because everything felt unsafe. Trying to get a reservation at any restaurant? Impossible. Everything was booked out the entire stay. We were denied at the other resorts too, so we were basically trapped with terrible food options we couldn’t even eat. Our room? No A/C. Just a hot, humid oven we were stuck sleeping in while already sick. We called the front desk multiple times and absolutely nothing was done. Zero urgency, zero solutions. And to top it off, we paid thousands to attend a show here and could barely even make it. Between the miles of walking required and being violently sick from the food, we missed most of what we paid for. This place was unsafe, unsanitary, and totally unprepared. For the price we paid, this was a complete joke. I wouldn’t recommend this resort to anyone — not even as a prank. Spend your money somewhere that actually cares about basic cleanliness, functional rooms, and, you know… food you can eat without getting sick.

We paid around US$700 per person for a 5-night stay over winter break. This review is with this price in mind (pretty cheap compared to vacationing in the US) Room: we stayed at the colonial. Rooms are big enough for 2 adults and 1 kid to scatter 5 days worth of stuff and snorkeling gear. Balcony has a drying rack for wet swim suits. Room had a few issues (leaking ceiling drains during a storm, broken shampoo dispenser, clogged shower drain) - all were promptly fixed within the hour of calling for service Location: beautiful beaches, pools and kids water parks are very clean, very fun. My kids made new friends every day and spent hours at the water slides. Beach water was clear, waves gentle, no seaweed. We saw sea turtles 5 out of 5 times we tried looking for them. There are some fringe reefs offshore teaming with sea life. There are many tide pool areas by the rocks where you can find urchins, sea stars, sea hares, conches, fish and so much more! Hours and hours of fun for an ocean lover! Service: great as long as you tip the staff a tiny amount ($1-$5) Food & drinks: alcoholic drinks are weak. About 1/4 strength of regular cocktails, which I didn’t mind. Espresso martini was a favorite! Buffet food was slightly above average compared to what you’d get at any regular restaurants in the US. Huge variety. Great way to get kids to try new foods. It’s hard to get reservations at the a-la-cart restaurants at a time that you want. We try to reserve the first night we arrived but couldn’t get any hibachi spots at Kyoto during our 5-night stay. Shows: we have enjoyed 3 solid night shows for the kids: Disney, broadway and one other. Kids had a great time dancing with the Disney characters. It’s quite the experience. The dancers were great. Similar experiences in the US would cost you a lot. But at Barceló it’s free every night. Overall, it’s good value, and it’s enjoyable as long as you don’t have unrealistic expectations based on what you pay for.

He provided exceptional hospitality and service. Serving is a skill mastered by Moises and his warmth, attentiveness and intuitiveness make him stand out. It was all so natural to him that we think these skills have been perfected over many years. We trust that management will recognize him for his unique talents.
