I have to give a huge thank-you to Gabriela Dominguez and Miguel Itza at Palapa Mariachi in the Barcelo Colonial. Their service was truly outstanding! 🌴✨ They were friendly, attentive, and made us feel incredibly welcome. Every detail was taken care of with a smile, and they went above and beyond to make our dining experience special. You can really feel the pride they take in their work — it makes all the difference. Beautiful Resort, amazing staff and great food A little late writing this review lets just say life got a bit busy once we got back. We visited this resort for the first time on the week of Nov. 1-8 2025. All we can say is this is fantastic resort we have no complaints. We booked the upgrade to premier and it was worth it. Right from the check in to everything else that goes with it. We had our separate check in area and we did not have to book any a la carts as it was already done for us, and if there was any we wanted to change we could do that after.Check in was quick and our room was ready for us when we got there. The room is fantastic and large and the view over the pool and the ocean was beautiful. Do bring water shoes as the ocean has rocky areas in it but where the rocks were we saw lots of different fish. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained do be prepared to walk as it is a large resort. As for the food there is no complaints, the buffet was good and had great variety each day and the a la carts were fantastic especially the Japanese one. As for staff and service they were all fantastic. We had an issue with the A/C on the second day, we called down to our concierge desk and within half hour maintenance arrived and had the issue resolved. One employee in particular really stood out and was fun to deal with his name is Jesus Puc, he made our stay a lot more fun. He was at the pool/beach bar during the day and than at the piano bar in the evening. The only bad experience was at the Strikers bar lets just say the food there was not that good as well as the service. We will definitely put this resort on our high list and will visit it again. We have been to a number of different resorts over the years and this is one in our top 3. We highly recommend you give it a try you won't regret it

My stay here was fun, 4 days of beautiful sun and weather. I did the spa here and booked a Swedish massage. The give you an hour in the sauna/steam/ aromatherapy showers and cold plunge & hottub. The massage was amazing and definitely recommend. I do know it’s an all inclusive but I would recommend bringing cash since all of the workers here are extremely kind and nice. It reminds me of a cruise ship. Tips aren’t required but appreciated. I will recommend you also bring snorkeling masks so you don’t have to rent/ buy them here. The gift shops at the hotel property are expensive. The have water bottles at the bars so ask for some to keep in your rooms. The buffet is okay with a few standouts. I do love the deserts, they decorative them very creatively especially for holidays. I was fortunate to be here during Halloween and day of the dead. The shows they put on at 9:30 pm at palenque theater are fun and engaging, the dancers are so talented and the singing is beautiful. The bars here are fun without much of a wait. They have both regular and poolside bars. The beach is beautiful and yes there are fish, I saw allot of beautiful fish also saw stingray a bit further into the water. The room itself that I stayed in was on the first floor, had its own patio that stretched into the beautiful landscape. The room itself wasn’t crazy beautiful but the fact that it’s in Cancun and you’re surrounded by beauty makes it fit into the inviroment. I will say if you’re looking for more of a Las Vegas style, check out the next door neighbor barcelo Rivera adults only hotel. The reason for the 4 star ⭐️ is because there is a lack of safety on the beaches. Life guards are stationed far from eachother and I had a friend have an accident and it took forever for medical to show up which was very frustrating. So please be careful to not injure yourself or at least try and be close to a lifeguard station if possible. Overall it’s was a beautiful experience I would recommend. Also you have access to the other hotel pools and bars (except the Rivera) so you can walk through the connected walkway paths to explore.

We booked this for a family vacation. It was our second time at the Barcelo Maya. We loved it there the first time but I’ll never go back. It is a beautiful resort but the customer service is absolutely horrible. When we arrived, they had our room wrong and literally said that they did not care if we were upset. We had to fight to get the room we booked and that just made them more unpleasant to deal with. We paid for the premium account and the check in process and check out process was absolutely horrible. The only excellent service was at the Captain Morgan Bar and Grill and pool bar, at the Caribe next door to the Colonial, and the entertainment crew there was so fun. It is the last time I will go to Barcelo Maya and have already told some friends of ours, who booked to go there in February, to cancel their reservations and go somewhere else. Also, I have to mention that the food buffet was not good. If going to Cancun, stay somewhere else. Very sad because when we went years ago, we loved it there.

I cannot say one negative thing about this resort. The staff are amazing and super friendly, the food was great and their beaches and pools were beautiful. We have stayed at several resorts in this area before and this resort was perfect. I recommend 10/10. There's something for everyone here - party pools for those who like to party and quiet areas for the others.
