We planned to stay 6 nights and extended our vacation at Akumal to 10 nights - says it all. All inclusive and there is something for everyone here, whether you like it calm and relaxed by the beach or smaller pools, be active (gym, golf, tennis,...) or like a more lively experience by the main pool or evening shows. Same for the food and drinks, from healthy juices and dishes to party experience - all is available and delicious. The overall area including multiple resorts, golf course, casino,... and well maintained gardens with wildlife is huge and can be discovered using various "bus lines". Our room (renewed version) was very comfortable, well equipped and clean. The Staff is always very kind, helpful and ready for a joke creating a positive atmosphere - thank you all. Special thanks go to Jose at reception doing everything possible to make our stay even more enjoyable.

Don’t stay here unless you like feeling like an inconvenience! Came for my honeymoon, was told at check in they would do something special in our room for our honeymoon- that never happened. The service at the buffet was anything but great, felt like an inconvenience every time we wanted a refill. Can’t even take food back to the room, and they’ll chase you down if you leave with their glasses - only can walk around with an 8oz plastic cup. Same cup all their watered down, sugary cocktails are served in. Never been more disappointed on a vacation and the fact that this is our honeymoon stings even more. I understand the good google reviews, as they come to your table and wait for you to give them a review… make sure to be watching you the entire time before you leave, so yeah who will leave an honest review that way? Not to mention found a cockroach in our room too. The mini fridge they say they will stock daily, they must stock with whatever they have left, because only certain items have been restocked. Super overpriced for the service and quality. And getting a taxi? Outrageous prices through the resort. Don’t stay here unless you like disappointment at a high cost! Oh yeah, the alacarte dining is impossible to get reservations for, so enjoy the buffet! Or not. Since they don’t restock items there either. Waited and talked to over 4 members of staff over 30 minutes just for some shrimp cocktail- a cold dish… Room service? That’s included but it will come to you cold. Oh yeah, my husband also got food poisoning while here. WOULD NEVER STAY AGAIN. I would however, recommend this to my worst enemy. If you want to have a sour stomach, overpriced rooms, and horrible food, come and stay here. But for us, never again.

We’ve just returned from our second two-week family holiday here, travelling as a family of four with adult children, and once again we had a wonderful stay. We stayed in the adults-only Block 83. While the rooms are a little outdated, they are bright, well maintained, and cleaned thoroughly every day. The staff throughout the resort are consistently friendly and welcoming, particularly in the restaurants, buffets, and housekeeping. A special mention must go to Miguel and Francisco, who went above and beyond to ensure our stay was enjoyable. The lady at the reception in Block 83 was also extremely pleasant and helpful. We managed to secure dinner reservations most nights. The restaurants are all modern and beautifully designed; however, the food isn’t always consistent. Our favourites were Katok and Gran Tortuga, although had we only stayed for one week, we likely wouldn’t have been able to get reservations at either — despite checking in online prior to arrival. The resort itself is very large, which we liked, as it offers different areas of the beach to explore. Staying in Akumal gives access to the restaurants & bars across all the resorts. The coffee shop deserves a mention as well — the coffee is excellent and the ladies working there are superb. That said, there is usually only one person preparing drinks, which can lead to long queues at times. Overall, we had a fantastic two-week stay and would happily recommend this resort.

The place was fantastic! I loved it here! Here is what I would change. The buffet meats were tough! The hamburger was not a hamburger. The staff was beautiful and very respectful! The Uniforms were an A+ My last was something that needs attention. I am at Riverdale Maya Akumal, and one of the vendors was putting me down at the front entrance to the hacienda. He started by asking, “Who are you?” I told him I am of Mexican descent. He asked my name, and I told him. Then he asked for my last name, and I told him that as well. He said I was nobody and questioned why I was there. He also said he had more money than us Americans. Then he brought up the mask I was looking for the night before that he couldn’t find. He said he had it and told me to give him $50 and three hours, and he would bring it to me. I told him I didn’t want it anymore. He asked, “Why were you looking for it before, and now that I tell you I have it, you don’t want it?” I explained it was for the USA vs. Canada game, and since the game was over, I didn’t really need it anymore. I also told him I did not feel comfortable giving him $50 and waiting three hours for him to come back with a mask. The man seemed like he might have been on drugs. He was getting very close to me and looking directly into my eyes. He said, “Let’s shake hands on it.” I told him no, I did not want it anymore, and that he was making me feel very uncomfortable.

Had a lovely vacation. Amazing staff who are very kind and attentive especially Elizabeth, Jonathan, and the entertainment staff at the main Akumal pool. We were visiting as part of a large group so I didn’t know what to expect but the service was wonderful from all the staff we interacted with. One downside was that we could not all be seated together for the a la carte dinners despite none of the restaurants being fully booked. We were told that they don’t seat tables with more than eight people because otherwise it would be too loud. We also were only given late seatings 8:30-9:00 and that was not the most appreciated by the wait staff (not that they gave us worse service because of the timing though!). The hotel complex is quite large but the shuttles are plentiful and frequent. Our room was lovely and in one of the updated villas which was a nice surprise. Lots of wildlife on the property too. If you’re into birdwatching you’ll definitely see a few unique specimens without having to leave the hotel! Breakfast buffet 10/10. What a wonderful first visit to the Yucatan peninsula!
