We had dinner at Katok tonight, served by Eric and Alexander. Eric was our favourite! Friendly, personable, making jokes with us. Both servers checked in frequently to ensure our meal was great and we didn’t need anything. The food was great! It’s our favourite restaurant to visit when we come for holiday. The portions are good, some of the ribeyes are HUGE!!! Bring an appetite for sure.

Miguel was incredible during our stay. Him and our wedding coordinator Noemi greeted us and our guests at check in, ensured we had a private and fast check in and continued ensuring everything was going well during our stay. The welcome dinner and rehearsal dinner they arranged was great (our guests loved the food and service was outstanding). We felt extremely special. Noemi and her team did an outstanding job the day of the wedding to work around the rainy weather and it was such a special day. Joel was our photographer with JJ studio and he did an incredible job capturing all our wedding day moments and our guests. Overall we highly recommend staying at Bahia Principe Luxury Akumal and hosting your wedding or special event here. Make sure to get in contact with Miguel and get Noemi as your wedding coordinator and Joel as your photographer and you'll love every moment! For makeup we also really recommend Team MVP- all the ladies did amazing work for me and my 6 bridesmaids. We made lasting and wonderful memories here.

Guillermo has been fantastic getting guests involved in the activities, my daughter and I particularly loved the aqua gym, crazy games and Mexican bingo. He is very approachable and helpful too, so an excellent asset to the entertainment/animation team. Update, as still here and thought initial review was for the entertainment/animation only. I would like to say thanks to Jose (Reception Supervisor) who was fantastic on our arrival, helping us to secure rooms which we love and suit our needs. Also, thanks to Francisco (Reception), who has been so helpful and approachable during our trip. Thanks also to all the staff that work so hard to make peoples stay at the resort so special, from bar/lobby staff, restaurant workers, the cleaners and grounds keepers. A special mention is required for Santiago (Bellboy Service in the Lobby), as what a fantastic individual he is. They are the first and last service you will normally meet when entering or leaving the lobby via the main entrance, so somewhat the forward facing element of the Akumal resort. He is so helpful, engaging and happy to assist with advice when asked. I would especially like to mention Miguel (Guest Relations), who has been so helpful and approachable during this stay. We are by no means demanding guests and tend to go with the flow, but have had a couple of requests for services/facilities this trip which he has been instrumental in arranging. We appreciate that he is not a miracle worker, but he really isn’t far from this with assisting guests where possible. He’s an absolute asset to the guest relations team, thank you.

Clean, quick and kind service from nearly all the staff at the resort. The shuttle drivers, housekeeping, room service, and service at the specialty restaurants and sports bar were great. Only exception would be the breakfast buffet. Service was okay but seemed disorganized and chaotic. We did not look forward to going each morning and wished there was another option. We even tried the room service of the breakfast, and the options were disappointing. But again, all the people we encountered at the specialty restaurants and food quality at those, was wonderful. Wished the AC was better at the fruitos Del Mar and dolce vita restaurants… we enjoyed our meals and service, but rushed to leave because of the uncomfortable temperatures. Our pool room was beautiful and our room stayed stocked with towels and supplies and the cleaning crew were the kindest group of the resort. Wish for an all inclusive, that there were more drink brands offered. Quality of liquor was not that great so we often stuck to just beer and wine, and ended up purchasing our own bottles. Overall, would probably come back and would recommend.

Travel dates: 17–24 Arrival: Tulum airport was fast and easy. We took a private transfer. Check-in was quick, and we got renovated rooms in Building 63. Rooms and Grounds: Renovated, clean, and comfortable. Grounds are pretty and well kept. Trams run often, but after shows you might wait for the second or third one. Hyatt JV: You can feel cost-cutting. Some bars closed, some restaurants dark, and others looked half-empty but wouldn’t take more reservations. Several guests said quality has slipped. If this keeps up, Bahia may lose loyal customers. Hotel Sharing/Crowds: Akumal gets lots of traffic from the other Bahia resorts. Trams are the only way to the beach, so the buffet gets busy. Lots of “saved” beach chairs that aren’t actually being used. Beach: If you want an easy, wide beach, this isn’t it. Outside of Tulum Beach, most areas are rocky or coral—bring water socks. Water and sand are nice, but chairs are packed close together. No sailing or paddleboards, likely due to rough water. Beach volleyball was popular. You can still find front-row chairs at 8–10 a.m. (except at Tulum Beach). A la Cartes/Reservations: The system is frustrating and needs fixing. We still got six reservations, and the food and service were excellent when seated—great presentation and staff. Entertainment: The Circus and Magic shows were genuinely good. Bottom line: We liked the rooms, service, and shows. The beach setup and the reservation system weren’t for us. We’re beach people, so next time we’ll try somewhere else.
