This Is Not a 5-Star Resort — It’s a 1-Star Disaster in Disguise I’ve stayed at many resorts around the world, but this place takes the cake for the worst experience I’ve ever had. From the moment we arrived, it was clear this was not a 5-star resort — more like a rundown motel with a fancy name. Check-in was a nightmare. The staff were rude, dismissive, and acted like they were doing me a favor just by checking me in. Eye rolls, attitude, and even tossing items across the counter — it felt more like I was being processed at the DMV than welcomed to a luxury property. They made no effort to explain anything about the resort and treated questions like they were a burden, even though it was obvious we were first-time guests. Hospitality? Absolutely nonexistent. Every encounter with staff throughout the resort was met with the same cold, indifferent attitude. It’s as if being helpful or polite was completely beneath them. Room service is a joke. Not only is it not included in this “all-inclusive” package, but it also doesn’t function as advertised. They claim it’s available until 11pm — we tried calling at 10:15pm and were flat-out told, “It’s too late.” No offer of help, no alternative. Just a dead end. The buffet, which you’re practically forced to rely on, is overcrowded and chaotic. Lines are long, food is bland and recycled, and seating is limited. It’s clear this resort is prioritizing volume over quality in every way. Horrible service in there. No utensils given or even a napkin. You have to chase down someone to get a drink. You just have to get up and find a cup and find something to drink yourself. Bottom line: This place is a scam hiding behind 5-star marketing. The service is atrocious, the amenities are misleading, and the experience leaves you feeling frustrated and unwelcome. Save your money and go literally anywhere else.

Extremely Disappointing Stay – Never Again I rarely write negative reviews, but I feel obligated to warn others about my experience at Occidental Punta Cana. From the moment I arrived, it was chaos. I had to wait over 7 hours to get my room, and the staff kept giving me conflicting answers every time I asked when it would be ready. It felt like they didn’t even know the basics of their own hotel – one person would tell me to wait in one area, another would say something completely different. The communication between the staff is terrible, and they seemed overwhelmed and confused, even though the hotel wasn’t at full capacity. Simple requests like asking for towels or directions to restaurants took forever and often required multiple follow-ups. The food was honestly bad. Buffets were repetitive with low-quality options, and many dishes were cold or overcooked. Even the “specialty restaurants” were underwhelming, with poor service and unappetizing meals. Overall, the experience was stressful and frustrating, which is the opposite of what a vacation should be. For the price, I expected at least decent service and edible food, but sadly, Occidental Punta Cana failed on both fronts. I would not recommend staying here.

Extremely disappointing stay, not recommended. We stayed at this hotel with a group of 21 family members, and it was by far the worst experience we’ve had. Many staff members were rude and unhelpful, the food was mediocre, and the drinks were low quality. We were forced to change rooms multiple times due to ongoing issues like water leaks and broken air conditioning. The most unacceptable moment was when Angie, a staff member, shouted at us during a hotel activity, behaving in a completely disrespectful and unprofessional manner. Despite having a confirmed group dinner reservation, we were told they couldn’t seat us together and were placed at five separate tables, which completely ruined the evening. I don’t want to complain about the entire staff, some people were kind and respectful, but overall, our stay was disappointing. It’s especially upsetting because it was my grandparents’ first time at a hotel, and we were hoping to create beautiful memories. Instead, we had a truly unpleasant experience. In short: poor service, disorganization, and an experience that does not match the hotel’s rating. We would not return.

My father my sister and I loved this resort. Lovely staff. And very nice rooms. The pools are beautiful. The Micheal Jackson performance was out standing!! Lots of fun stuff to do while there . Make sure to make reservations at the restaurants as they are bomb af! I loved the lobby, very modern and cozy. I loved this place.

We chose Occidental based on a friend's recommendation who had previously enjoyed another one of their resorts. Occidental Punta Cana stood out to us as the best value for money. Initially, I didn't have high expectations, but I was pleasantly surprised! Food: There was a great variety of food, especially at the poolside Snack Bar. They served the best burger I've ever had! And the Tacos... AMAZING! Room: Our room was nice and spacious with good amenities. However, the cleanliness of the faucet and countertop was a bit disappointing; they looked like they hadn't been cleaned in months, as did the shower. What I found particularly odd was the muddy smell from the water coming out of the taps and shower. This could be a cleaning issue, or perhaps it's just the quality of the local water. Water: Always drink from bottled water. Beach: The beach was lovely and not too crowded, feeling very safe. Staff: The staff was absolutely amazing and always helpful. They were consistently happy and treated everyone wonderfully. (In the photo, our FAVORITE staff) Overall: 9.9/10 By the way, we're already planning to go back next year and will definitely choose the same hotel!
