I would like to bring attention to a few things from a recent 7 night stay at the Courtyard Midtown East in New York City. As a Titanium Elite member I will check out of this hotel quite disappointed. The air conditioner didn’t function well and after repeated requests for maintenance, and reminders as they usually went unanswered, the room stayed at an unacceptable 80°. A fan was brought to the room to “help cool it down.” No offer to relocate us, no apology for inadequate equipment, barely even an acknowledgment of the problem. Also, I had to request coffee for the room every day because housekeeping neglected to refill that along with the shampoo and body wash bottles on the wall. A hotel room with 31 floors needs to have more than one functioning elevator. The letter posted outside the lobby elevator bank saying there is an event and elevator service may be “slow” is fooling no one. I spend 120 plus nights a year in a hotel. I choose Marriott for most of them. I am also Diamond with Hilton. I feel that every person checking into a hotel room deserves functioning equipment but Titanium Elite needs to garner some sort of appreciation. There needs to be some reason to continue to choose Marriott and this last week gave me none.

Unfortunately a barely mediocre hotel… Stars for location, close to a subway station - Midtown. Service was not great. When we checked in the lady at the check in counter was not friendly at all. Our room only had decaf coffee… and there was no room service for short stays so we never got a refill for coffee. The telephone in our room did not work. There was a conference when we were staying at the hotel and some how there seemed to be only ONE single elevator working for 10+ floors at the hotel. We had to wait 30 minutes for the elevator. We requested late check out and that was never properly communicated to house keeping.

Overall, this is a good, decent, clean, and safe hotel. Which are all pluses. Overall, I’d give it a solid B-. The staff is excellent and very friendly. Things are very clean. The location is across from the subway. There are lots of restaurants in the area and it’s next door to a Duane Reade drug store-which is great for essentials. The rooms have excellent blackout shades. There is a coffee shop on premises. Our room was a good size, with a nice sofa and desk. Drawbacks: The beds are hard-like really hard. Our pillows were fairly flat. The water pressure is low. There’s some sort of timer or motion-detector on the AC, so the room was always hot when we came back. The “cafe” they have for breakfast is really a glorified Starbucks. The breakfast sandwiches are microwaved. The toilets are low to the ground. There are awkward areas in the room (the cabinet fridge opens one way and the door for the fridge the opposite). There’s no true full-length mirror. The vanity area is small. The hotel, at some point in the past 2-3 years, looks like it did a halfway renovation.

I stayed a week at this hotel with my family and chose the room with two queen beds and a sofa one. There were many aspects that completely threw me off and made me decide to never come back again: First of all, the fact that every time after the room was supposed to be cleaned and refurnished we found out that there weren't any bath towels or the courtesy kit(which consisted only of a bar of soap and a moisturizer), so each evening we had to go back to the front desk and wait at least half an hour to receive the items. There was a terrible customer service and our last straw was when returning to the room for the last night, we found out that no one came to clean it!! We were out for most of the morning and the whole afternoon! After asking as to why to the receptionists and explaining our side of the story they were only able to came up with a couple "sorry's" and when asked it they were able to clean it while we went out to dinner they refused as they kept only one housekeeper after 5pm and that the most they could to was to "refreshen"(refilling the towel racks). After accepting it and asking for 4 towels we returned after dining and only 2 of them were brought to our room. I have nothing else to add other than the fact that on the last night we slept in dirty beds because of the staff's laziness: 4 receptionists, multiple staff members and no one could help the housekeeper remake our room?? We didn't even receive any kind of compensation. The only good side of this establishment is it's location, other than that for me it's a big and bold NO.

The room was really nice and the service was good. Staff there are friendly. The only drawback is the elevators take a really long time to come and most times are so full you have to wait for one or two more times. Also one of the elevators seemed to be not working which isn't good for 30 floors and only 3out of 6 go to certain floors
