Dubai's 5 Most Iconic Buildings

Dubai is home to some of the most expensive buildings on the planet. Since 1991, Dubai’s skyline has grown to house over 400 skyscrapers. These unique building are what makes Dubai a truly Iconic holiday destination to many people.

First up on our list of Dubai’s 5 most iconic buildings is the 22-story office building, 0-14, which is also known as the Swiss Cheese Building. The holes in the outer layer of the building are designed after Arabian screens, which provide shade and help to keep the building cool in the summer. The outer wall also allows the building to be supported without the need for interior pillars. The aesthetic qualities are what make this building iconic, as they capture what the Dubai skyline is all about: a collection of truly unique buildings lit by a beautiful sky.

You can’t talk about buildings in Dubai without mentioning the Burj Khalifa. Standing at 828 metres, it is the tallest building in the world and is one of the best known attractions in the whole of the Middle-East. Offering an observation deck on the 124th floor, you can see all of Dubai and more. The Burj Khalifa has come to be as strongly associated with Dubai as Big Ben is with London.

The Burj Al Arab

Sitting at the peak of one of Dubai’s manmade islands of Palm Jumeirah, is the hotel Atlantis, The Palm. One of the best known hotels in Dubai, it offers space for up to 1500 guests at a time and employs about 3000 people. Based on the mythical kingdom of Atlantis, the hotel offers you an iconic holiday experience that is hard to match. There are even underwater suites and restaurants, where you can also get up and close and personal with sharks and rays.

Sometimes it is a building’s shape that makes it iconic, while sometimes it is what is inside that counts. In the case of the Burj Al Arab, it’s both. The building is designed to looks like a boat’s sail blowing in the wind and it is the fourth tallest hotel in the world. This hotel offers the absolute ultimate in luxury, as it is the world’s only 7-star hotel, with facilities to match the title.

Last but not least on our list is a group of the buildings, the Emirates Towers that is made up of the Emirates Office Tower and Jumeirah Emirates Towers Hotel. A pair of towers that compliment each other in their design. Interestingly the Office tower is taller but contains 2 less floors altogether, as the floors are taller in the office.

These towers help to make up the Dubai skyline, perhaps the most suitable symbol for the extravagance and ambition of Dubai.
