The legal age for drinking alcohol differs in the different regions of UAE. In Abu Dhabi, the legal age is 18, and you can drink on holiday in Dubai when you are 21. It is also 21 for the Northern Emirates, except for Sharjah where drinking alcohol is illegal. Alcoholic drinks are only served in hotels and clubs that have a valid license, however a Ministry of Tourism by-law states that hotels must only serve alcohol to people over 21 years old. It is also a punishable offence to drink and even being under the influence of alcohol in public.
