We stayed at the Royalton Antigua in Five Islands this past June and our stay was wonderful. The staff was very accommodating and friendly. Whenever we needed anything, they would come and bring it for us right away. They greeted us every time we passed by. We also liked the security the hotel had for their guests; they always take note of who is coming and going, which is a very good idea. The room was clean and a good size. The food was great. There was a variety of food at the buffet (Gourmet Marché) that catered to everyone. The drinks from the bar were exceptional. The live entertainment at night was fantastic as well. The hotel is close to St. John's, so the taxi fare was fair. Overall, we would return and we would definitely recommend this hotel to everyone.

A bizarre blend of good and bad experiences. You will probably be glad you came here, but also, maybe not. Some of the staff will care about you deeply, and make your day. Meanwhile, other staff, seem to be serving forced labor and glare at you or roll their eyes. Every interaction is a dice roll. We stayed in this swim out suite for 2 days, and then the bungalow for 3 days. Both rooms had trivial problems (broken reading light, broken ceiling fan) but were so impressive otherwise that we didn't care about these minor issues. The bungalows included special in-room services, such as chef prepared meal. We ordered the filet mignon and they served us a dollar-store strip steak that was too difficult to chew through. When I asked the server whether she thinks this is filet mignon, she admitted that it's not, and that she was worried the filet mignon would take too long to bring us, so she brought us this instead. We are by no means food snobs, but this food was literally inedible, and it was supposed to be a bougie in-room chef prepared specialty because we were paying over $2,000 per night. She became agitated that we noticed her slip up, and became incredibly rude. We tried to set the mood positive again by giving her big thank yous and lots of friendly attitude, but she just glared at us. My wife and I couldn't really get into a good mood again until the next day. This wasn't the only such interaction... We eventually realized that the best way to enjoy this beautiful resort is to avoid all interaction with the staff, to mitigate risks of them literally ruining your vacation. We canceled all other in-room services, such as the mixologist that was supposed to join us, and our vacation became much better. It's hard to give more than two stars after paying $10,000 for five nights at a resort, and having one of those five nights basically ruined by resentful staff. Again, there are other staff who will make you feel like family. Wonderful people like Sharlene and Nekita. Book at your own risk, and if you book the bungalows, I would say it's definitely worth it as long as you avoid the in-room services. I was actually given this advice before going, and I wish I would have taken it immediately. Just hanging out at the bungalow by yourselves, without any staff or services, is absolute Paradise.

The resort is gorgeous. The location is wonderful, great beach with clear pristine water, wonderful atmosphere and clean pools. My friends and I booked a reservation for a day pass almost 5 days in advance only to get there and find out that they never made a reservation under our names. The front desk employee was great. She was extremely patient and managed to fix our issue. However, every other employee at the resort was rude and the service was terrible. The employees at the bar were rude and didn’t want to make us our drinks, told us they ran out of straws and the drinks we wanted, but we saw other guests with the same exact drinks and straws when they ordered after us. At Score, the sports bar, we were seated for almost 10-15 minutes and then went to the bar and asked for it. They never handed us one. Again, there were other guests who got their menu immediately upon entry. We were really excited for a nice time, but were incredibly disappointed in the service and how we were treated when we paid a hefty amount. Not sure if we’ll be visiting again, but for what it’s worth, the resort itself was very pretty.

Disappointed and Miserable Stay at Royalton Antigua – Not Worth the Hype or the Cost I’m currently staying at the Royalton Antigua in one of the highly promoted Over-the-Water Bungalows, and I must say—this has been one of the worst all-inclusive resort experiences I’ve ever had. Let me start by saying the bungalows themselves are beautiful in design. However, the butler service, which is typically a highlight of these kinds of accommodations, has been an utter disappointment. I am someone who consistently books butler-level service when traveling, and this experience has been the worst by far. The service is slow, unresponsive, and lacks the attentiveness you would expect—especially at over $2,000 per night. Despite advertising these bungalows as adults-only, they are placed on the family-friendly side of the resort. That defeats the purpose of a serene, adult-centered experience, which is what I specifically booked for. If you’re seeking peace and quiet, this is not the place. The service at the on-site sports bar, SCORE, was beyond frustrating. It took over two hours to receive a simple grilled cheese and soup order. Unacceptable for any establishment, let alone a luxury resort. To make matters worse, communication with the butlers is poor. They rarely answer the phone or respond in a timely manner. For such a premium service, this lack of responsiveness is inexcusable. Additional concerns: There are cats and dogs roaming the property, which may not sit well with everyone. The mosquito presence is extreme and makes it hard to enjoy the outdoor areas. All in all, this has been a truly miserable stay so far. I would not recommend Royalton Antigua to anyone seeking a true luxury, all-inclusive experience. It’s simply not worth the money or the stress. The kitchen ran out of EVERYTHING! the service was never in time. Pros: The room service and the bell boys were amazing.

The food wasn't good. Seemed to be more Americanized. Nothing authentic to the island. Disappointed. And not much to do at the resort. Limited events and entertainment. The DJ and dancers seemed like they were having a great time. Loved their energy. But the servers, bartenders, gift shop employee, to anyone else that I ran into, not the friendliest bunch. Which is hard for me because I work in the hotel business. I take that back there was also a young gentleman in the gift shop by the cafe who was very friendly as well as the 3 folks at the pool towels station on July 4th. But the gift shop by the pool :(. She was distracted on her phone. Sounded like it was her last day of work and she didn't care anymore. There was no direction or explanations given of how things were done. Every time you asked for anything it was like you were annoying them. I also made a reservation for one of the restaurants and even though I confirmed that I was all set, I got to the restaurant and they didn't have my reservation. The water was beautiful but that was about it.
