We chose this Marriott Bonvoy hotel for a 5-night bank holiday stay due to positive reviews and its beachside location. Overall, we had a great time and would consider returning, despite some easily fixable issues. We particularly enjoyed the friendly and welcoming service (especially the Bonvoy recognition), the spacious rooms, the large heated pool area, and the prime beachside location. Areas for Improvement While the positive aspects made our stay enjoyable, some areas could be improved for a true 5-star experience: * Arrival Experience: While ample free parking was appreciated, a dedicated staff member to assist with bags and room guidance upon arrival would enhance the check-in experience. * Hotel Grounds & Room Aging: The hotel's age is apparent throughout, with dated furnishings in common areas and rooms. In our room (228), we experienced a clogged sink, small wardrobe bugs, misaligned bathroom tiles causing water leaks, and an outdated TV. * Maintenance & Cleanliness: Issues like a broken, poorly taped toilet in the pool area and infrequent cleaning of those facilities were noticeable. Room keys also frequently became invalid, suggesting an older technology system. * Dining Experience: While the buffet offered good food variety (especially grilled meats), dessert selection could be better. Soft drinks should be included, and waiting staff attention could be improved. Cross-contamination risks at the buffet due to shared serving utensils and unsupervised children at the chocolate fountain are also concerns. * Service & Amenities: Despite excellent room service and turndown, needing to pick up beach towels from reception daily was inconvenient. Evening activities were also not well-advertised or engaging. Location & Overall The hotel boasts a fantastic location, being just 15 minutes from the airport, next to a beautiful beach, and central for island exploration. The nearby mall with a Eurospar was also convenient. Despite the identified areas for improvement, our stay was pleasant, largely due to the spacious rooms and friendly staff. We've rated it 4/5, acknowledging the potential for a truly exceptional experience with some updates and attention to detail.

Insects in Fridge, Bugs in Locker, Flies on Buffet – No Accountability We stayed at the Sheraton Fuerteventura from May 26 to June 2, 2025 — and what should have been a relaxing holiday became a deeply unpleasant experience due to severe hygiene issues and a complete lack of meaningful accountability. Early in the stay, we discovered insects crawling inside the unsealed minibar fridge, contaminating food we had stored. Later, we found more insects crawling over personal items in the drawer of the bedside locker, right next to where I was sleeping. It was disturbing, and I struggled to rest at night because of it. Even more worrying, there were flies continuously landing on uncovered food at the restaurant buffet throughout our stay — indoors and outdoors. It was impossible to ignore and frankly unacceptable for any establishment, let alone one claiming 5-star standards. To be fair, there were things we did enjoy. The staff were consistently warm, professional, and helpful. The pool area was lovely, and the Veranda pool bar was very nice. The hotel clearly has strengths — but they were undermined by the more serious issues. We reported the problems discreetly during our stay and followed up through Marriott Bonvoy and directly with hotel management afterward. While polite replies were received, no action was taken to take responsibility or make amends. Instead, we were offered vague “gestures” should we return — with no real effort to acknowledge how unacceptable this experience was. This has left me feeling not only disappointed, but genuinely wronged by the way it has been ignored. We’ve stayed in many 5-star resorts in warm climates and have never encountered anything like this. Travelers deserve to know that if something goes wrong here, you may be ignored — and that is simply not good enough. Additional Note on Food Safety Compliance: Despite management’s assurance that the hotel meets hygiene standards, the issues I reported — insects crawling on food inside the minibar fridge and flies landing on uncovered buffet items — are not in line with basic EU food hygiene regulations (Regulation (EC) No 852/2004). These laws require that food be protected from contamination at all stages of storage and service. The presence of live insects inside a fridge contaminating stored food, and the repeated exposure of buffet items to flies, clearly fall short of these obligations. This is not a matter of personal preference — it’s about legal food safety standards that exist to protect all guests. I strongly encourage potential visitors to consider this when reading the hotel’s response. My Response to Management’s Comment A prompt public reply, after weeks of silence in private, is disappointing — and revealing. The vague “gesture of goodwill” offered falls well short of what’s warranted given the seriousness of what occurred. No guest should be expected to spend more money just to see if standards might improve. What requires resolution is the experience already paid for — and the lack of accountability that followed.

We booked this hotel knowing it was a bit outdated and had a reputation for flies (confirmed). Still, as one of the very few five-star, kid-friendly options in Fuerteventura, it made sense for our family trip. The hotel itself is fine - spacious rooms (we paid extra for 70m²), a decent garden, and a generally relaxed atmosphere. But the service is miles away from five-star standards. As someone working in luxury hospitality in Switzerland, I was honestly puzzled. From booking to check-in, staff often disappeared mid-conversation – and on arrival, not even a “Welcome” or glass of water. You’re basically left to figure it out yourself. Some staff are genuinely kind, but overall, the energy feels flat. I’ve had warmer treatment at Swiss government offices. A small tip from a hospitality manager: instead of spending on endless towel laundry, perhaps reinvest in staff training and morale. It would go a long way. Also, expect guests walking in with grocery bags, hoarding breakfast buffets to their rooms, and a “private beach” that’s actually just public sand with a gate. In short: something’s missing - mostly in management. Would I return? No. But for families, it’s still a reasonable option in a limited market.

I recently stayed at the Sheraton Fuerteventura and had a fantastic experience. The hotel is beautifully located right on the beach, with stunning sea views and easy access to local shops and the promenade. The rooms were spacious, clean, and very comfortable. I especially appreciated the variety of food in the restaurant and the extremely friendly, helpful staff who made the stay even more enjoyable. The pool area was perfect for relaxing, and the spa was a real highlight. Overall, a peaceful and luxurious stay – highly recommended for couples or families looking for a relaxing getaway in the Canary Islands! A special mention goes to Tom, Alena, Michela, Samuel and all the exceptional staff who went above and beyond to make my toddler's stay exceptional. Their kindness, patience, and thoughtful attention made a huge difference and created lovely memories for our family.

We really enjoyed our stay at Sheraton Hotel. The rooms are lovely and spacious. We also had beautiful food and fresh cocktails. We loved the spa, it was fantastic. The staff was very professional and very attentive. Its location is perfect, just a few meters from the beach and restaurants, all entertainment areas you might need, ten minutes from the airport. We will return for sure.
