Wondering where to go on holiday in December?
The last month of the year can be a pretty grim time in the UK, with freezing cold temperatures and a whole lotta sleet to go with it. This year, why not escape the drizzle, and jet off to somewhere warmer?
There are plenty of exotic places that enjoy some of their best weather in December, and we’ve selected three of our favourite cheap luxury destinations to see off the end of the year. So, read on for tips on where to go in December...
First up on our list of the best December getaways - Dubai holidays. With its futuristic skyscrapers towering over ancient ruins and buzzing marketplaces, Dubai is the perfect blend of east meets west, and is great for holidaymakers looking for the perfect city break.
With its stunning white beaches, Dubai is great for sun worshippers looking to top up their tans during a winter holiday. However, it’s also every inch a happening city, with the biggest shopping mall on the planet and the world’s tallest building just two of the world records that this bustling metropolis has under its belt.
When you’ve finished shopping and taking in the spectacular views from the Burj Khalifa, it’s time to take a trip back in time, across the Dubai Creek, and into the Old Town. Here you’ll get a taste of what Dubai was like prior to the discovery of oil, with stunning ancient architecture, traditional Arabian art galleries and interesting museums, which really hammer home the striking comparison between then and now.
December is a fantastic time to visit Dubai, as the temperatures aren’t too hot, averaging at a pleasant 27°C during the day. You’ll also be able to witness some of the city’s spectacular Christmas displays, with enormous Christmas trees and some of the most renowned New Year’s Eve parties in the Middle East.
With plenty of sunny weather, gorgeous beaches and laid back atmosphere, holidays to Jamaica are a beach lover’s dream come true in December.
This country is one of the Caribbean’s most famous islands, with stunning white beaches combined with spectacular green mountains, making it a superb location for beach bums and adventure seekers alike.
Jamaica is famous for its laidback way of life, and visitors here enjoy lots of chilled out nightlife, casual cafes and, of course, more rum than you can shake a cocktail at! The island is home to some of the most luxurious hotels in the world, many of which offer all-inclusive packages.
During December, Jamaica enjoys warm temperatures, with averages of around 30°C during the day.
Seychelles has a tropical climate, which means the islands enjoy warm weather all year round. December brings with it average temperatures of around 26°C, with highs of 32°C - perfect weather for lounging by the pool, or snorkelling in turquoise waters.
The islands are famous for their stunning white beaches, with crystal clear waters and soft sands. There are many water sports here that you can enjoy during your December holiday, including surfing and snorkelling, where you can experience some of the most beautiful sea life in the Indian Ocean.
If you want to stretch your legs and explore during your Seychelles holiday, the capital of Victoria, on Mahe, is one of the world’s smallest capital cities. Here you can experience a bustling market, piled high with brightly coloured fish, and the world-famous Victoria clocktower, which is modelled on the Vauxhall Clock in London.
Maldives holidays might be famous for relaxation and scenery, but what about a white (sand) Christmas?!
December marks the beginning of the Maldivian dry season, so you're likely to get lots of hot, rain-free days and comfortably balmy evenings. As the month goes on any rain clears away and winds die down. The end of the year is also fantastic for paddling in the sea, as the waters reach around 28°C
The Maldives are famous for their luxury resorts, cloudless skies, spectacular sunsets and opulent relaxation, so it's the perfect place for a relaxing winter sun holiday or a brilliant December honeymoon idea.
