Arrived at Gouves hotel, the staff were very welcoming, friendly and helpful. We had the family swim up room and was definitely the best choice we made, no fussing over sun beds and we were located in a great spot! The rooms were spotless and well maintained, the same said for the surrounding areas such as the pools and food areas. A range of different food however all inclusive got a bit repetitive. Loads of pools, slides, splashpark, football areas and kids club so kids are kept entertained. The entertainment at night was disappointing, unsure if this is down to it being early in the season but nothing much happening at night. The location isn’t great either apart from the airport being about 20 mins away and a 5 minute walk from the beach but that’s it. There’s nothing in the surrounding area no bars or restaurants so would suggest hiring a car to go further afield. We did walk approx 25 minutes to the Crete aquarium on an overcast day and that was a great hour out. Overall hotel/experience was great.

Booked this hotel all inclusive "plus" through Jet2. First of all there is no "all inclusive plus" it's just standard all inclusive.
When we arrived we were then informed we needed to pay tourist tax of €10 a night as it was a "5 star hotel" it would have been less if it was the 4 star hotel that Jet2 advertise it as. On that note.... The 5 stars are clearly just a way of extorting more money out of you I am sure, as no way is Gouves Waterpark Holiday Resort 5 star. I'd give it a 3 star max. The soft drinks are absolutely horrific, no branded drinks in sight, the smell of the softdrinks alone smell like urinal fluid.... And I can only imagine taste the same as urinal fluid.
The AI food isn't nothing to write home about and we didn't even bother with breakfast in the end. The same horrid thing every day.
The one visit you get to the onsite Japanese restaurant "Umami" was good however.
Another good point is that the Pizza slices are great at this hotel, people comment on the Gyros but I can get better at my local kebab shop.
WiFi is non existent. Drops in and out all day and definitely couldn't pick it up in our room (4209) .
On to the rooms, the first night we arrived we were originally given a different room, upon entering- the electrics in the room wouldn't work so no lights or anything, so we just sat there in the pitch black with our phones for torches, while the guy who helped with our bags tried to fix it, eventually after about 10 minutes of messing about with the fuse box and getting a new key card from reception he managed to get the lights to come on and left. Literally about 2 minutes later we were plunged into darkness for about a minute before they flicked on again. I had to go up to reception to let them know as this kept happening for the next 5 minutes as we tried to unpack.
The cutting out of the lights and flicking back on facade then resumed for another 25/30 minutes as they couldn't fix it and decided only then to change us room. By this point it was 11.30pm. No sorry, nothing.
The manager is an arrogant tw*t that swans round and only smiles at the certain people, he clearly took a disliking to me as the miserable sod didn't smile once throughout the 7 days we were there. Other staff however are absolutely lovely and especially our housekeeper, she didn't speak a word of English but I really liked her and she was always smiling!

We’re just home from a very relaxing week at Gouves Waterpark Hotel in Crete.
The hotel is made up of several blocks each with its own pool. The water was cold but it was just the very start of the summer season and there’s a heated outdoor pool in the centre of the hotel complex.
Kids are well entertained with the kids club, waterpark and the slides are for kids and adults.
Every member of staff in the hotel is so friendly and nothing is a bother to any of them.
The food is very good and the snack bar is AMAZING... proper burgers, pizzas and pork or chicken kebabs (gyros).
I would like to make special mentions to the following people who enhanced our holiday just by being so nice...
Aurelia and Mickey in the animation team – even though we didn’t get involved with the activities, they still took time to talk to us and Mickey even taught us the rules of UNO.
Raphael the lovely bar man who kept us going on the double Baileys and the crazy bar lady (sorry, I didn’t get your name) who had us on the tequila the day we were leaving for home. A lot of the drinks were brand names.
Vas, one of the managers who checked with us every day that we were not having any issues.
Voila (with the immaculately pleated hair) is a sight to behold. She’s like a one-woman hurricane keeping the dining room clean and tidy.
Anna in the shop. She was a delight to speak to every day and even taught us some Greek... Efharisto!
Finally, at the airport we were stunned to find security staff and passport control smiling at us. I had to comment that its the first time I’ve been smiled at by passport officers. They said ‘You are in Crete’. 😁
It’s the happiest bunch of people we’ve met anywhere and we will definitely be back

We had a brilliant holiday here. We stayed in a swim up family suite which had plenty of space for the 3 of us. We couldn't fault our room at all.
All the hotel staff from reception/bars/restaurants and maids were fantastic, very hard working and incredibly friendly. The water slides were a massive hit with our 7 year old and he really enjoyed the smaller splash area too. The food in the all inclusive restaurant was good, a nice varied selection every day and the gyros, pizza and burgers from the snack bar which opens at lunchtime were delicious. We also enjoyed a meze at the hotels Smile restaurant which we all really enjoyed. The staff there were just as friendly as at the hotel. The animation team at the hotel work incredibly hard running the kids club, activities in the pool every day, kids discos every evening and also providing the majority of the entertainment in the evening. We didn't watch the entertainment every night of our stay but the ones we did watch we really enjoyed.
It was a short walk to the beach, shops and there are loads of places to eat on the sea front if you fancy a break from the all inclusive food. We also visited the aquarium which was good and the dinosaur park which we all really enjoyed.
We would definitely come back again.
