This place was amazing. Will definitely come back. Affordable. Has a "vibe". I found the shared rooms to be clean and comfortable. The customer service was kind and efficient. The downstairs coffee and breakfast was amazing. The lobby was relaxing, spacious, cozy, and classy. The evening live music was intriguing. The Saturday house music pool party on the roof was mind blowing with the LA skyline around me. It felt like a new discovery was waiting for me every time I returned to the hostel.
THEN!
John and the security team very kindly mailed me an item I left there with ease and understanding. 10/10.

Freehand Los Angeles is a trendy and stylish hotel located in downtown LA. The rooms are modern and well-appointed, with comfortable beds and high-quality linens. The hotel's rooftop pool and bar offers stunning views of the city, and the hotel's restaurant, The Exchange, serves delicious and innovative cuisine. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the hotel's location is great for exploring downtown LA and the surrounding area. The hotel also has a co-working space, a fitness center and a coffee shop. The only downside is that the rooms can be a bit small, but the hotel's design and amenities make up for it. If you're looking for a unique and comfortable place to stay in downtown LA, Freehand Los Angeles is a great choice. I would highly recommend it for a memorable and enjoyable stay.

I had a good experience staying there. Especially because I had a very ethical roommates and helpful staffs. The room and the bathroom was very clean. Good quality mattress. Nice view on the rooftop. My only issue was that all electrical outlets in the room were loose and they didn’t charge my devices properly. Other than that, very good experience!

Jaime helped make our stay special. He went above and beyond for us and made us feel welcome. We were very stressed when we arrived, and he really helped us keep calm and handled our reservation very professionally. He was very patient, efficient, and took the time to listen to us and help best accommodate us. We had an unforgettable stay thanks to Jaime. He elevated our experience at Freehand, and we will be booking a stay at DTLA here again! The rooftop bar that they have at this hotel is also very nice. Prime location.

Pretty sub-par experience.
Staff is a bit too cool for even LA.
After buying food for breakfasts, my mind was blown to find that the "kitchen" was a microwave and fridge. There weren't even plates or bowls to warm up leftover restaurant food in the microwave. I feel like the kitchen is an important part of any hostel, as you're staying there to be smart with your cash while you travel.
Also had to purchase a lock for my shared room locker, that was WAY over priced - $15! - instead of just good customer service, selling at cost to those idiots like me who forget to bring one.
Cool vibes. Clean space. But with an air of LA I'm better than you. And not cheap... maybe worth a hotel a bit further outside the downtown area.
