Captivating beauty awaits in the Cape Winelands and along the Garden Route, while you’ll go in search of some of the phenomenal animals that call this untamed destination home, including the ‘Big Five’ of lion, leopard, black rhinoceros, elephant and buffalo. You’ll get a fascinating insight into the traditions and heritage of the Swazi people, in Eswatini (Swaziland), enjoy authentic cuisine, sample world-famous wines, and gaze at bewitching landscapes along the famous Panorama Route. After arriving in Cape Town, your tour representative will greet you and take you to your boutique accommodation. You will then have the rest of the day to explore Cape Town as you wish, with a host of excellent attractions, and a myriad of superb shops, bars and restaurants to discover. A sightseeing tour is a good way to get the most out of your time, or you might enjoy a leisurely wander around one of the city’s vibrant craft markets.
Following breakfast, you’ll join up with your guide and the rest of the party before heading off to experience the delights of the Winelands, where the sight of historic vineyards flanked by rugged mountains is sure to take your breath away. You’ll also be treated to a tailor-made tour of the region, with a visit to one of the wonderful wine estates in Stellenbosch, Paarl or Franschhoek among the possibilities, along with the chance to discover some of the area’s historic landmarks.

Start the third day of your tour on a high with an unforgettable visit to Table Mountain (subject to weather conditions), where you’ll enjoy spellbinding views across Cape Town. You’ll then get to immerse yourself in the epic beauty of South Africa’s rugged coastline, travelling via Camps Bay towards Hout Bay, then along the iconic Chapman’s Peak Drive (if open), regarded as one of the world’s most scenic drives. After catching your breath and treating yourself to some lunch, you’ll experience the wild glory of the Cape of Good Hope, part of the protected Cape Floral Region, a UNESCO World Heritage Site filled with a spectrum of diverse plant species.

After breakfast, you’ll depart Cape Town heading towards the coastal town of Hermanus. En route, you’ll stop to catch a glimpse of the breeding colony of African penguins that inhabit the coastline at Stoney Point. You’ll also visit the Harold Porter National Botanical Garden, a beautiful location offering a wealth of flora and fauna, as well as cascading waterfalls and peaceful pools. On arrival in Hermanus, you can spend the rest of the day as you wish, with options including a visit to one of the area’s charming vineyards, or a visit to the coast to spot whales from the shore.

On finishing breakfast, you’ll set out to explore Hermanus’ scenic cliff path and take in the exhilarating views across Walker Bay. If you’re lucky enough to be visiting between July and November, you may even catch a sighting of a southern right whale swimming in the waters off Hermanus. Later in the morning, your journey will continue, with the charming village of Barrydale being the next stop, providing the opportunity to treat yourself to lunch if you so wish. It’s then on to Oudtshoorn, regarded as the ‘ostrich capital of the world’, where you’ll take a guided tour of an ostrich farm.

When breakfast is over, your day will begin with a visit to the magnificent Cango Caves. Here you’ll explore the incredible limestone structure, filled with enchanting stalactite and stalagmite formations. Following your underground adventure, you’ll travel to the foothills of the Swartberg Mountains, where you’ll enjoy an unforgettable wine tasting experience at a boutique wine estate. Your journey will then take you along the breathtaking Outeniqua Pass to Knysna, a town famous for its oyster, located beside a picturesque lagoon.

You’ll start the seventh day with a refreshing cruise on Knysna Lagoon and a visit to Feather Bed Nature Reserve, where you’ll be able to immerse yourself in the area’s engaging history and rich animal and plant life. A free afternoon follows lunch, giving you the opportunity to discover the many delights of Knysna.

After finishing breakfast, you’ll say goodbye to Knysna and head to Plettenberg Bay for a magical ocean safari (subject to weather conditions). If you’re on the water during the summer months you may be lucky enough to spot bottlenose and common dolphins, as well as seals. During the winter months, southern right and humpback whales visit the area and are a joy to behold. On your return to the shore, the chance to brave the world’s highest bungee jump at Bloukrans Bridge awaits (additional charge, subject to weather conditions). You’ll then venture on to Storms River, your final destination for the day.

Tsitsikamma National Park is your first stop on day nine, to embrace the beauty and tranquillity all around. Next on the itinerary is Storms River Mouth (subject to weather conditions), a spot that offers mesmerising views out over the Indian Ocean. You will then be taken to Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth) for your flight to Durban, in the KwaZulu-Natal region. Here you’ll be met and taken to your accommodation for the night in Umhlanga.

Following breakfast, you’ll set off to the village of St Lucia, close to the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a haven for spectacular wildlife. Encounters with hippos, Nile crocodiles and a spectrum of bird life await as you are taken on a cruise on the St Lucia Estuary (subject to weather conditions). You will then be taken to a private game reserve, with the afternoon providing plenty of time to enjoy a game drive and the chance to seek out the ‘Big Five’. Scintillating sunsets, refreshing sundowners and the opportunity to spot some nocturnal species bring to a close day ten of your African adventure.

An early start beckons on day 11, as you set out on safari, with the morning offering a superb opportunity to spot the ‘Big Five’ and enjoy glorious natural scenery. On your return, you’ll be served breakfast, before heading north into the Kingdom of Eswatini (Swaziland), a former British High Commission territory, now ruled by King Mswati III. Your afternoon will see you visit a crafts market to discover some of the local wares, which include candles, baskets, sculptures and beadwork. You will then be transferred to your luxury accommodation for the night, with the magnificent Royal Mdzimba Mountains as a backdrop.

When finished with breakfast, your day will start with a visit to the wonderful Ngwenya Glass factory, for an insight into the artistry involved in creating the unique animal pieces made at the site and to witness the phenomenal art of glassblowing. The next stop on your tour is a traditional Eswatini village, with the sublime scenery of the Lebombo mountains to enjoy during your journey. On arrival, you’ll get to meet the villagers and learn about their rich culture and enthralling heritage. Afterwards, you’ll journey back across the border to South Africa, travelling through Malelane and on to your accommodation for the night in the jaw-dropping Sabie River Valley.

The extraordinary beauty of the Panorama Route takes centre stage on the morning of day 13, as you visit jaw-dropping vantage points that include God’s Window, Bourke’s Luck Potholes and the Three Rondavels at Blyde River Canyon. Kapama Private Game Reserve is the next stop on the itinerary, for more adventures in the South African wilderness. Following check-in, an open-vehicle safari will see you joined by a ranger and a tracker as you go in search of more wild sightings, which hopefully includes members of the legendary ‘Big Five’.

Start the day with an enriching morning safari, enjoying the opportunity to seek out the early risers or the animal kingdom, including some of the 350 bird species recorded in the reserve. A few hours of free time await on your return to the lodge, ideal for a spot of rest and relaxation. It’s then time for high tea, before setting out on an afternoon safari. As the sun sets, the nocturnal inhabitants of the reserve come out to play, and provide a magical treat as you make your way back to the lodge.

The final day of your Spectacular South Africa tour begins with an early morning open-vehicle safari and one last change to enjoy the rugged scenery and majestic wildlife this epic destination has to offer. You’ll then return to the lodge for brunch, before checking out and being transferred to Hoedspruit Eastgate Airport for your flight to Johannesburg.
