I really recommend The Vine hotel. Location is perfect: close to many restaurants, shopping streets and harbour. Hotel has included free parking lot and it is located above a shopping mall with many shops and a supermarket. Rooms are modern, spacious and staff was very friendly and helpful

Our first visit to Madeira and would highly recommend the hotel. From first arrival to leaving we found the staff so friendly and helpful with nothing being too much trouble. The selection of food at breakfast was exemplary and we also sampled the cocktails and light bite menu at the bar. The location of the hotel is fantastic with everywhere in Funchal being easily accessible. Highly recommended.

This is a nice hotel, which is part of a complex with apartments and a shopping centre. We only spent 1 night here before our flight.
Arrival: Upon arrival at the parking lot, it was nice to be greeted by a hotel employee who escorted us to the front desk. The walk from the car park was quite complicated so we welcomed that. Too bad he didn't offer to take my wife's bag, so I was carrying two. However, we were greeted at reception by a very nice receptionist who was very pleasant and acted professionally. We were escorted to our room by the porter who had already offered to take our luggage.
Room: The room was spacious, relatively clean and everything was ok, but it was quite dark and also time had already taken its toll. Not everything in the room worked great though, especially the light switches, some of the ceiling elements were dirty and "broken" etc. I was struck by the fact that the minibar was empty even though we presented a credit card.
Hotel facilities: The hallways were clean, cozy but too dark for my taste (but that's a matter of taste). There was a complimentary water dispenser in the hallway which was great. The lobby and restaurant are nice with modern touches. The rooftop terrace is awesome and you can enjoy the super view of the city with a drink or take a dip in the pool. That was great.
Wellness: There is a jacuzzi, Turkish bath and relaxation room - free of charge. There is also free water. Even so, it was a disappointing visit for me. The water in the jacuzzi was cold and the Turkish bath was downright cold. Unfortunately there was no staff present to assist me. In addition, it was evident throughout the area that its best years were behind it.
Breakfast: Not great, not terrible. Compared to 5* hotels, it was rather disappointing in terms of the offer. But nothing was downright bad. On the contrary, I appreciated the friendly and helpful staff.
Location: the location of the hotel is very good and you are right in the city centre. The already mentioned underground garages are great. There is also a business center in the complex which can be reached by elevator.
Summary: The hotel has seen its best years and honestly probably won't impress you. On the other hand, I have to commend the friendly staff and the location.

Cockroaches, valuables missing/stolen from the room and very poor price to quality ratio
We paid around EUR 250 per night for a 9-night stay, hoping for a nice experience. However, we found a cockroach in our room; we were upgraded to a nicer suite, but we found a cockroach there as well.
To make matters worse, a valuable silk night dress worth EUR 200 disappeared after cleaning, and the hotel offered no compensation.
The toilets in both suites were behind thin glass (not regular walls) which allowed for the unwanted smells and sounds. The lightning system was so bizarre that we couldn’t switch on the light in the toilet only, and we ended up using the iPhone flashlight when using the toilet during the night. The breakfasts were not great and more or less the same every day.
Summing up, they charged us for a semi-luxurious experience and provided very poor quality and ignored the valuables disappearing/being stolen from the room.

Stunning hotel, exceptional location and brilliant staff (including a robot called Bella). Drinks are slightly pricey, but the aesthetic and surroundings make up for it.
