Our experience at The Shellsea Krabi was overall average. First and foremost, the hotel feels outdated and is in clear need of renovation and modernization in order to meet current hospitality standards. Notable drawbacks: On the first day, we found a stain on the bed sheet. To the hotel’s credit, it was replaced promptly. On arrival, the sofa on the balcony was completely wet, which affected the initial impression of the room. On two separate occasions, we found a hair in the breakfast area, which was disappointing and raised concerns regarding hygiene standards. In the shower, there was a persistent unpleasant odor, similar to ammonia, possibly originating from the drainage or sewage system. Positive aspects: The hotel is located on a relatively good beachfront plot. The property offers two swimming pools, one of which is designated for adults only. The service level is good, and the staff is friendly and welcoming. The hotel provides regular shuttle services to Ao Nang town every two hours, which is convenient for guests. In conclusion, this did not feel like a true five-star experience by Thai standards, which we are familiar with. Overall, the property aligns more closely with a four-star level.

We had an excellent stay at this hotel. The property offers a beautiful and peaceful setting, perfect for a relaxing getaway. What truly sets The ShellSea apart is the quality of the service. The staff is absolutely lovely—highly professional, yet warm and consistently attentive to every detail. They truly made us feel welcome throughout our entire visit. The facilities are impeccable, and the overall atmosphere is very serene. We highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for top-tier service in a stunning location.

Just loved our stay here. The staff are wonderful, the location is perfect and we didn’t need for anything. We even borrowed bikes to help with local exploration. Also kayaks or paddle boards if you want to explore the bay. This offers a lovely escape from the bustle of some of the local areas. We were really pleased that we decided NOT to go to the islands, which look like a cattle market! So spoiled. We are loved the varied breakfast but chose to visit the little rustic God-le shack which is 500m away (turn right outside the hotel and walk up the road and find it on the right). Amazing and authentic Thai food in a perfect setting. The pool areas at the Shell Sea are varied, something for everyone. The only comment that was slightly negative was the loungers under the trees need updating as they are a bit grubby. Really liked this hotel and our 4 night stay.

This was the biggest disappointment of our month-long trip in Thailand. Given the price and 5-star rating, our expectations were much higher. We stayed in a pool access room. The first room we were assigned had a very strong musty smell, which appeared to be masked with an intense artificial fragrance. It seemed the staff were already aware of this issue. After requesting a change, we were moved to another room without the artificial scent, which was somewhat acceptable. The location was another major drawback. There is very little within walking distance, and transportation was inconvenient. Hotel taxis were approximately three times more expensive than Bolt, while Bolt drivers often declined to come to the resort, making it a constant challenge to arrange transport. Aside from these issues, the resort itself did not offer anything particularly memorable or enjoyable that would justify its 5-star status. We were also surprised to see extra charges for sauna use, which is uncommon for resorts at this level. Overall, the experience did not reflect the price or the rating, and we left feeling it did not offer good value for money.

We had an 8 day stay at the Shell Sea Krabi, after a very busy first part of our trip it was the perfect place to relax. The good parts: 1. Peaceful as mentioned - compared to being in Ao Nang it was calm and serene. 2. The room was lovely, clean and the bed was very comfy! 3. The staff were lovely. 4. The beach, whilst not technically private, felt like it was. We enjoyed kayaking on the complimentary kayaks! 5. We had a complimentary massage at the spa which was lovely (the prices are significantly more than elsewhere though). Despite the idyllic location there a few things which make the ShellSea not a 5 star in our view: 1. Food offering is limited and fairly standard in quality and given there’s not much around it gets monotonous fairly quickly (trips out were needed). We found the food at Fin Bar to be hotter than the Cruelean bar but slow service at both. The Thai food options were also limited. Would recommend God-le restaurant down the road for a lunch (but take insect repellant). 2. There is a shuttle to take you into Ao Nang which is good however, it’s infrequent (starts at 12:30) and limited to 10 guests at a time which means you have to plan ahead so spontaneity isn’t possible. I also found getting a Grab/Bolt pretty difficult unless booking in advance. 3. Complimentary water only in the room. There’s nowhere around the hotel to get free water which is fine but a bit annoying when you have to keep going back and forward to replace it. I think it would be much better to have a chilled water dispenser by the pool bar similar to the breakfast offering. 4. WiFi isn’t great. Overall we had a lovely, relaxing stay which is what we came for!
