An exceptional hotel and resort that exceeded our expectations in every way. The staff go out of their way to help you, and the service makes you feel special. The room was beautiful, big and felt secluded and romantic. The facilities were excellent and felt well spaced-out and having separate pools for adults and children seemed to be effective. The food was delicious and the variety of breakfast options was impressive. The experience felt luxurious and the few days spent here were like paradise.

If you have an itch to visit Malaysia, you’ll have no shortage of choices to places to see. After much research, The Missus decided on Langkawi – one of the islands off the north coast of mainland Malaysia. She’s a ninja when it comes to finding amazing places to visit and stay, and the Ritz-Carlton resort on Langkawi certainly ticked the ‘amazing’ box. Set in the rainforest on the Andaman Sea, the resort sprawls across more than 100 acres and offers a serene and private white-sand beach. Amenities include a gym, a luxurious spa, three restaurants, one buffet-style restaurant, four pools (including an infinity pool and a splash zone for children) and, of course, the beach – with its own little beach bar. The resort offers accommodations of all types, with more than 115 rooms. From the moment you arrive, you are treated like an A-list celebrity. After a mildly sweaty journey from the airport, we arrived and were immediately taken to an outdoor area to check in. Frando presented us with trays with cool, lemongrass-scented towels, snacks and a refreshing tea while he handled check-in. The towels were a nice touch, and they worked wonders on making us feel refreshed and reinvigorated. Given the resort’s size, the usual method of transport is via electric buggies – which are 6-seat, upscale golf carts. All staff are attentive, friendly, and always willing to answer questions about the history of Malaysia and of Langkawi. Daniel, who wound up driving us several times to various places in the resort during our stay, was a fantastic host and patiently answered our barrage of questions about Malaysia. Breakfast is served in the Langkawi kitchen, which is the buffet-style restaurant. We got to know many of the amazing staff during breakfast, including Qistina and Lotte. Qistina asked one of the chefs to make us a special breakfast roti (with bananas and milo). It was a great gesture and made us feel welcome. All food at the breakfast buffet was incredible, and you could choose from several stations. The Malay station was our favourite. For dinner, we alternated between Horizon and the Beach Grill. Horizon is built out over the beach, making you feel like you’re floating on the water while enjoying an excellent meal. Puva, Pedro, and Alif all provided excellent service and made us feel welcome. Alif mixed a special cocktail for us, and it proved to be excellent – light and refreshing. The Beach Grill is a bit fancier than Horizon, with a menu heavy on locally sourced seafood. We highly recommend the Andaman prawns, which are split lengthwise and grilled over an open flame. You can choose from several sauces to accompany the prawns. All staff at the Beach Grill provide exceptional service and are extremely knowledgeable about the seafood on offer. Sukri was exemplary, as was Michelle. Kuhrail, the chef, visited our table and gave us even more detail on the philosophy behind the menu and the food’s preparation. Both Sukri and Kuhrail presented us with special dishes on the last night of our stay, and Michelle wrote us a lovely card thanking us for visiting the resort and the Beach Grill. Finally, we would like to thank Miki and Bella of the Loyalty Program with Marriott Bonvoy. Miki arranged for a lovely (and delicious) fruit basket to be placed in our room upon our arrival, and Bella coordinated a special loyalty appreciation event on the beach. The event was superb, and Bella was a gracious and informative host. Do yourself a favour – stay at the Ritz-Carlton on Langkawi. You won’t regret it, and you’ll be left with very fond memories.

This hotel in Langkawi is an excellent choice for both couples and families, offering a beautiful, protected beach with calm waters and a good selection of water activities. The staff is exceptionally welcoming and helpful, ensuring a memorable stay. The world-class spa is truly outstanding, providing a luxurious relaxation experience. The hotel is conveniently located near town, attractions, and restaurants but is also secluded enough for peace and privacy. The facilities are top-notch, and the spacious, luxurious rooms make for an unforgettable stay. Highly recommended for a perfect Langkawi getaway!

The Ritz-Carlton Langkawi is undeniably a stunning property with incredible rooms and amenities, but the service doesn’t quite match the 5-star standard. TDLR: While the Ritz-Carlton Langkawi offers luxurious rooms and great amenities, the service inconsistencies and underwhelming beach make it not worth the price. I wouldn’t return and would explore other options in Langkawi instead, like the Four Seasons. Arrival & First Impressions Check-in was smooth, and the reception staff was hospitable. However, the staff member assigned to explain the resort grounds came across as rehearsed and insincere, making the introduction feel less genuine. Rooms & Amenities The room was absolutely stunning—every detail was well-designed, from the comfortable bed to the breathtaking views. As a Platinum Elite member, I received a one-tier upgrade, which was a nice touch. The pools were also a highlight, offering a great place to relax. Dining & Breakfast Experience Breakfast was well-organized with a wide variety of options, making for a great start to the day. The food quality and selection lived up to expectations. Service & Areas for Improvement While some aspects of the service were good—such as the buggy service, which was usually quick—there were multiple moments where the attention to detail and level of care didn’t reflect a true 5-star experience: Poolside service was lacking. While the loungers were well organized, the bartender ignored me completely when I approached the bar to order a drink. Even when I left my undrinkable "Ritz Punch" on the counter, there was no acknowledgment or offer for a replacement. Lack of proactive assistance. At one point, I was struggling to fold and dry off two umbrellas, and rather than assisting, an employee simply pointed to where I should put them. Small moments like this make a difference in high-end hospitality. Beach & Overall Value Despite the beautiful pools, the beach itself was disappointing—it didn’t live up to expectations, and for the price of the stay, it felt underwhelming. UPDATE: Upon checkout, the Director of Operations personally approached me to hear my concerns. He was genuinely sincere, took my feedback seriously, and went above and beyond. This level of attentiveness and generosity completely changed my perception of the hotel’s commitment to service recovery. Initially, gave 3 stars but now moved up to 5 stars. While I initially wouldn’t have returned, the management’s response made me reconsider. However, for those prioritizing a beautiful beach, the Four Seasons Langkawi is still the better option. But the pools here are seriously amazing!
