I had an excellent stay at The Marker Union Square and would absolutely choose it again. The room was very comfortable and, despite being in a busy downtown area, impressively quiet (I was on the 7th floor). It made for a very restful experience. The desk staff was absolutely stellar - special shout out to Priscilla! Everyone at the front desk was efficient, kind, consistently smiling, and genuinely sympathetic. They helped us solve different issues during our stay with professionalism and warmth, which really made a difference. The hotel restaurant is also quite good. Breakfast (not included with the room) was very enjoyable and well worth it. The location is downtown, so you encounter the usual big-city realities, but I did not feel especially unsafe walking in the area. There are also many excellent restaurants within easy walking distance, which is a huge plus. Overall, I wouldn’t even consider looking for another hotel next time I’m in San Francisco: I would happily stay here again.

When I first walked into the lobby I could not believe how beautiful the hotel was. I was blown away with how elegant but also welcoming the space is; there is even a special curated fragrance they use throughout the public areas that smells AMAZING (I literally cannot stop thinking about it)! The staff is very attentive and friendly, which made the check-in process seamless. There are two lobby areas that are simply stunning (each with their own fireplace) that really set the tone for the hotel and made it feel truly unique. The room itself was just as nice as the rest of the hotel, and the bed was incredibly comfortable. The restaurant connected to the hotel is also very nice and adds to the overall classy vibe (without being pretentious) vibe of the place. The location is incredibly convenient with a lot of places being quite near to the hotel. There is staff at the front desk all hours of the day and often even a concierge near the front door who opens the door whenever people are coming and going and also helps folks carry their luggage in from off the street. I never felt unsafe in the area surrounding the hotel, even down the side alley where we parked our car for the duration of our stay (was cheaper than valet, which is also available). I would hands down never stay anywhere else in San Francisco as long as the Marker is an option!

The room was great and everything was very clean. Fitness room had great options. The staff was amazing: the front desk gave us lunch and public transport recommendations which was so helpful. We encountered the manager and HR Director who were just amazing and super accommodating. The lobby area with the fireplace is soooo cozy to hangout in and they had some performances going on on Friday night which was a treat. Super walkable to union square. Only heads up is if you go the opposite direction of Union Square, there is a large homeless presence--not shocking for a big city and no one gave me any trouble, just something to be aware of. The walls seem a little thin and and doors slam pretty hard, but the guests seemed to keep pretty quiet, I didn't get woken or disturbed. Would definitely go back!

Our stay at The Marker was incredibly frustrating from start to finish. First, valet mixed up our car ticket with another guest and actually provided us with keys and a vehicle that was not ours. The following day, when we attempted to retrieve our own car, we were questioned because the ticket didn’t match — understandably, since staff had already mixed it up. This was not only inconvenient but a serious security concern. After our first night, we had to move rooms due to no hot water. We were originally booked in a suite, but were moved to what was clearly a standard room. When I called the front desk to clarify, I was told it was still a suite and that “the layout is just different.” That felt dismissive. Moments later, the same staff member called back and admitted I was correct — they were simply out of suites. We were offered a “bottle of champagne,” which turned out to be just two glasses. We were also offered “free breakfast” for the inconvenience, but it was limited to one specific item only. It felt misleading and minimal given the disruption. Unfortunately, this all happened on Valentine’s Day. The room move disrupted our plans and significantly impacted what was meant to be a special evening. Overall, the experience reflected poor communication, dismissive customer service, and inadequate resolution efforts. We expected much more.

We stayed at the marker after a memorable evening at the nutcracker ballet. I’m so glad we did. Just unbeatable atmosphere for Christmas! My two granddaughters were with us & they were exited beyond measure to see the folks dressed in period clothing singing Christmas carols in the library of the hotel. They asked the girls if they had any favourite songs & sang with them! So sweet! The lobby was decorated beautifully and is sparkling clean. Then, there was the room. Although this property is in the tenderloin, & pretty sketchy outside, we felt safe & secure. It is an old old building but doesn’t feel dated at all. Our room, a king corner suite was so roomy, quiet & comfortable. The bathroom was incredible & the girls stayed in the huge soaking tub for an hour! The staff, & Dali in particular went above & beyond making our stay perfect. I was disappointed at first that the Fairmont didn’t have any rooms available but from now on, I will always choose the Marker. The service is better and the rooms are actually nicer for 1/2 the price. What a great place!
