The Abidah by Accra Barbados

DO NOT BOOK HERE!!! SCAM! My friend and I booked our (separate) two-week stays at Abidah directly through the hotel's website during an "early bird special" deal they were offering months in advance of our stay. We each received a confirmation email with a confirmation number after we booked, so assumed we were all set. We arrived at Abidah after a long day of traveling and were excited to check-in and get our vacation started. We waited around for a bit before someone came out of the back room to greet us and get us checked-in. The lady at the front desk was taking a looong time to check us in and asked that we showed her our confirmation emails/numbers as proof of the bookings (NEVER a good sign!!). We each pulled up the confirmation emails and she continued to type away on the computer. We were asked to take a seat while she looked into this further with the manager (Gregory). After what seemed like forever, Gregory comes over to us to inform us that the hotel had no record of either mine of my friend's reservations and that the hotel was completely booked for the entirety of our stay. How do they not have record of EITHER reservation?! He told us he'd put us up for the night while they looked into their sister resort/seeing if they can accommodate us, and a regional manager would be coming by to speak with us first thing in the morning. "Enjoy the night and relax" is what we were told to do (not sure how anyone would relax in this situation, but sure). We woke up the next morning and immediately headed to the front desk. "I haven't heard from the manager yet, go enjoy some breakfast" is what we were told. We quickly ate breakfast and headed back to the front desk. Still no word from the manager and no ETA on when he would be arriving. We waited around in the lobby for HOURS, while Gregory did his best to avoid us at all costs. Still no word from the manager, no timetable for when he'd be coming and no guarantee that a resolution would be available or that they'd be able to put us up for another night. That's when we took matters into our owns hands. We hopped on google and started researching other options. Of course, options were slim since it was so last minute- but we did find something on another island with a flight leaving that afternoon. We booked the room and the flight and left Abidah. Once we got back from our vacation, we sent an email to Abidah expressing our disappointment and frustration with the whole situation and requested to be reimbursed for the flight we took to Barbados, the flight we took to the other island and the difference in room price. Abidah declined to do the right thing and reimburse us for the added expenses we had to incur due to their negligence. What we think happened- we booked these rooms during an early bird deal they were running, so they were pretty discounted. Abidah then went ahead and "sold" the rooms we booked for a much higher price and claimed they had no record of our reservations... probably because they deleted them out of their system to make more $$$$ The hotel is TINY, the food was mediocre and the hotel isn't on the beach. You have to cross a road and walk down a hill (no clear pathway) to get to the beach. Not worth the $$

I am here now, I really don’t know where to start, on day one we had a mobile air conditioning unit in the room witch meant you had to have the door open for the extraction pipe, not ideal when the mosquitoes are out and about, we paid for a sea view, it was a view of somebody’s backyard. We complained about the air conditioning and view. The staff didn’t seem interested, but after a meeting with the manager on the second night we were moved, thank you. The food in the restaurant is good. The bar menu advertised a vodka/ gin martini. I have been here 10 days. No vermouth. The toilets in the restaurant area, men’s have been closed since we arrived and there is 1 disabled toilet to use , but no hand dryer. Some of the staff are great, others don’t seem to want to be there, it’s a shame as it could be so good. Plus it’s the only place I have been to in the Caribbean where you eat inside, but like a travel lodge. I do blame blue bay travel, who we have used many times, for misleading people. The beach is lovely and the views from the Sea View rooms is lovely. Sorry for the negative feedback but it won’t get better until it’s fixed. Apparently it’s H. R at Accra main hotel. So come you lot sort it out.

I am presently on a Staycation at the said Abidah Hotel in Enterprise Ch.Ch with my wife for our wedding anniversary. On arrival we parked in the basement which is safe with cameras around, we proceeded to the lobby and was met with welcoming reception, escorted to our room which was clean, and attended by Nicole, the Barman was very good at his job and made sure you lacked for nothing. Our Attendant was Sharon Adams who seated us each occasion we visited the dining room, with the raising of a finger she attended to us. The Chef visited us on the dining floor and discussed our preference and made sure we enjoyed our meals. The Receptionist were reachable around the clock just by dialing a single number. The Pool, the beach and jacuzzi were welcomed add-ons. I am a local, and on my stay I felt safe, welcomed and fully rejuvenated, I will be back again in the future and have started recommending this hotel to others.

I had a Fantastic stay, it was my 40th bday and it was truly a great experience. The staff members I encountered were extremely friendly. My waitresses Ebony and Shemiah were very personable and polite, Nicki at the front desk is a sweetheart. Any question I had she answered with patience. Tyler and Andreah at the bar were so friendly and that goes a really long way. There were other staff members, but unfortunately I do not remember all of their names. Daneika was my spa specialist and she did a great job with my Swedish massage, she also was very friendly. The food and drinks were delicious. The hotel is modern and very clean, exactly what I was looking for. The only con is the location of the room (2nd floor), I paid for an ocean view, they should really call it the “tree view…” My room should not be labeled as “ocean view…” Despite the room location, I still give this hotel 5 stars because of the exceptional staff and the cleanliness of the overall hotel. I highly recommend!

Stayed here 10/10-17/10. The hotel is modern and spotlessly clean. The bedroom was large, well equipped and the hot tub a welcome extra. The food was excellent quality, nearly every meal a la carte. The beach service throughout the day was superb. The best part however were the staff, each and everyone of them polite, friendly and nothing too much trouble. I didn’t note each individuals name but a thank you from my wife and I, and special thanks to Andreath for his attention to our every need from the bar which were varied and regular. I personally thank him for training me as a barista. All in all excellent in every respect and will go back again, but for longer. Steve Mann
