My friend and I stayed here for two nights and had a wonderful experience. From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed by the friendly staff. The room was comfortable with a beautiful view of Mount Kinabalu, and any issues we had were quickly resolved. The resort offers plenty of activities, especially for families, and the surroundings are peaceful and well-maintained. During our stay, we noticed that most of the guests were tourists from China, but it still felt relaxed and quiet. Overall, it was a pleasant and memorable stay.

A Wonderful Stay at Shangri-La Tanjung Aru (14–17 April 2025) I had a truly memorable stay at Shangri-La Tanjung Aru from 14th to 17th April 2025. I stayed in a room with a beautiful Kinabalu mountain view—absolutely stunning to wake up to each morning. Upon arrival, I was warmly welcomed and received lovely gift amenities for my anniversary 9yr from the duty manager, Ms. Suraya, which was such a thoughtful gesture. The service throughout my stay was excellent. Special thanks to Mr. Jordan at the reception, who handled my check-in smoothly and made me feel right at home. During breakfast, Ms. Mariana and the manager Mr. Majid provided outstanding hospitality—always attentive and friendly. I also enjoyed the in-room dining and tried the Kung Fu Kuey Teow, which was delicious. The infinity swimming pool and the Sunset Bar were definite highlights, especially during the golden hour—perfect spots to relax and take in the view. Overall, everything from the service to the amenities was top-notch. I highly recommend Shangri-La Tanjung Aru and would love to return again!

We loved the fact that the hotel had a lot of inhouse activities for the children at no additional expense. The pool area were my children's fav with the water slides, ice cream stand and the water bucket. In the evening there was a bubble bath in the public garden too. Personally i enjoyed the whole stay. Was very comfortable, attentive staff, breakfast was good. Couldnt ask for more 👍

It is a large resort situated on the outskirts of Kota Kinabalu, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding islands. The sunsets here are simply stunning. Included within the hotel is a Marina, providing convenient transportation to the nearby islands. The hotel is about a 15-minute taxi ride from the city center. The rooms are spacious and clean, and the service is impeccable, ensuring a comfortable and pleasant stay. If you're traveling as a couple, it's worth noting that the hotel is popular with families, so expect many children on the premises.

My recent stay at Shangri-La Tanjung Aru left me with mixed feelings. We were incredibly excited for our first Shangri-La experience and didn’t hesitate to pay a premium rate, anticipating an exceptional getaway. Sadly, our experience didn’t live up to the hype in many areas. From the start, it was evident that attention to detail was lacking. The hotel felt tired rather than refreshed, with issues such as mouldy or missing grouting in our room and no minibar service to enhance our convenience. The pool area was disappointing as well, with numerous bare patches where the flooring had noticeably worn, and the plastic parts of the slides showed signs of mould. Even the child play areas appeared dirty, which was concerning for families like ours. Dining was another major letdown. The offerings at Tatu and Joe’s were not only severely overpriced but also of poor quality and lacking in variety. There were hardly any healthy options available, which made it nearly impossible to maintain a balanced diet during our stay. To add insult to injury, we were charged for our eight-month-old baby’s food — a stark contrast to other hotels where infants are often accommodated with care and without extra cost. This particular experience greatly impacted our overall satisfaction. In the evenings, the hotel felt overly crowded with guests arriving for the sunset, which diminished the exclusive and serene atmosphere we had hoped for. The bustle of arrivals detracted from what should have been a private and relaxing resort environment. On the positive side, the staff consistently displayed polite and genuine hospitality, making us feel welcomed despite the surroundings. The soft play area was a bright spot for our family, and the dedicated staff there were truly lovely. The Borneo lounge provided a nice area to unwind, and I must mention that the gym was arguably one of the best facilities I’ve experienced at a hotel. While the hotel’s prime features, like its staff and certain amenities, did shine through, the overall experience did not align with the premium price we paid. The inconsistencies in upkeep and service have left us hesitant about returning.
