This was my first time travelling to Sabah, and staying at Shangri-La Tanjung Aru made the entire trip unforgettable. The moment I arrived, the atmosphere felt calm, welcoming, and beautifully maintained. The resort has a stunning beachfront view, especially during sunset, and the overall environment feels peaceful and luxurious at the same time. The staff were incredibly warm and attentive. Every interaction, from check in to dining to simple requests, was handled with genuine hospitality. They made me feel truly cared for throughout the stay. The rooms were comfortable and clean, with views that made waking up every morning feel special. The facilities were also impressive. The pool, the private beach area, and the dining options all added to the experience. Everything felt thoughtfully designed to give guests a relaxing and memorable holiday. This stay has set a new standard for me. It turned my first trip to Sabah into something truly meaningful, and I would absolutely return again. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a beautiful and unforgettable getaway.

Very happy with my stay here. Hotel is huge, so be ready to walk around. Check in was fast and smooth despite ongoing renovation. Room is big, well equipped and maintained. I stayed in a terrace room on the 1st floor which made walking easier. Pools are big and good for all ages. Breakfast is good, big variety of local, western and korean dishes (many koreans stay). Hotel has own peer, so you can book boat rides to the small islands for snorkeling and diving. Beautiful sunset was part of the experience. Hotel is located about 15 minutes drive from the KK city. Overall, very happy with my stay.

We booked a Family Suite themed room costing over RM8,000 for 3 nights, and the experience was extremely disappointing given the price. The room layout is poorly designed and unsafe. The main entrance opens directly into the kids’ room, which means children can easily exit the room without adult supervision — a serious safety concern for families. In addition, the kids’ bed is placed right next to the corridor, making it very noisy and disruptive, especially at night. The room itself feels old, dated, and badly planned, which does not justify the premium pricing at all. It is severely overpriced for what is offered. Dining was another letdown. We ordered kids’ pasta, priced at RM29, and were served plain pasta with sauce only — not a single piece of vegetable or any nutritional balance. This is unacceptable for a children’s meal at a family-oriented resort. Overall, the service quality and attention to family needs need serious improvement, especially considering the rates charged. The only reason this stay does not receive a one-star rating is because the kids did enjoy the water theme park and swimming pool. I sincerely hope the management will take this feedback seriously and improve both the facilities and service standards to match the pricing and expectations of families.

I had a generally pleasant stay here, and I want to highlight that the breakfast was fantastic — plenty of choices and everything was enjoyable. However, there were several aspects that fell short of a 5-star experience. Upon arrival, the front counter staff didn’t seem very welcoming. There was no welcome drink or cold towel like what I’ve experienced at Shangri-La Rasa Ria. No one greeted me except for one staff member who helped with my luggage. The front desk also didn’t clearly explain the services or facilities available; they simply handed me a map and asked me to refer to it myself. Room service was also disappointing. The staff didn’t offer basic courtesy such as saying “thank you, sir, enjoy your meal,” which I would expect from a hotel of this standard. I also requested a nail clipper and sejadah from housekeeping, but it took almost 30 minutes to arrive. The room itself felt outdated, though I was informed that renovations will begin after Chinese New Year next year. May the service also be polished next year after the renovation — I truly hope the staff will perform better than this time. Overall, my stay was acceptable, but considering the brand and rating, I expected a higher level of service.

Checked in together as a family of five and stayed for one night at the Kinabalu Wing Pool View Terrace Room. The room was comfortable and well laid out, with a lovely view that made the stay even more enjoyable. We had a great time at the spacious swimming pool—plenty of room to play and swim, and the kids truly enjoyed themselves to the fullest. Breakfast at Café Tatu was pleasant, with a good variety of choices to start the day. The front office staff were friendly and helpful, making the check-in and overall experience smooth and welcoming. Overall, it was a relaxing and family-friendly stay, and we would happily return again.
