We took the place for a group of 17 pax including kids at the garden view section. The resort was great and provided the best atmosphere for families to relax, play and chill. It had everything - including a kids club where they can spent an hour or two, a mini water theme park for kids , a good restaurant by the sea. Breakfast was good, while the lunch / dinner can be better, but good. The beach is not a big beach where you can spend a day, but nevertheless good.

The resort has beautiful sceneries of the beach where varying rooms have the beach view. The swimming pools and resting zones are good for chilling and spending time with the family. We tried the drinks and desserts at the resort where it was fantastic during the hot weather since there were refreshing. However, there were issues with getting a Grab taxi due to the location of the resort and we had to make several attempts before we can get a Grab ride successfully.

Unfortunately, didn't have the best time here. 5 star for the facilities but 3/4 star for the service. With that, with the price you are paying, it is not worth the money. For the service, you would get the same service from a 3 or 4 star hotel but only pay half of the price. Don't get me wrong, the staff are friendly. However, I noticed a few little things that you didn't get here, but you would usually get in other Shangri-la hotels or other 5 star hotel. For example, when we stepped into the hotel lobby on our first day, no one greeted us near the entrance and showed us where to check-in. Also, every time we entered the lobby, no one smiled and or said hi/good morning, for example. You would expect these little things from a 5 star hotel. Moreover, the management in Pinang Bar seems to be lacking. A staff member said that we forgot to pay for our dinner the night before, when we actually did. We had to show them our bank transaction and receipt. Lastly, there were two lifts - but one of them was broken for a few days. For the facilities, the swimming pool area is very clean and the pool itself is massive. The gym is excellent as well, with many machines and weights.

They celebrated the 50th year anniversary in 2023. Everything is well maintained. Veronica always welcomes everyone with her big smiles. The pool cater for babies, children, and adults too. As they are famous for their dinner buffet, breakfast are equally best. Abalone porridge 😋 The lunch by the pool was wonderful, but recently, the satay has reduced size.

I think it is difficult to expect any luxury five-star experience here. - No guidance for multiple entrances: This hotel has two entrances, based on room types, but there was no such information before arrival. As a result, we reached to the wrong entrance and had to move to another lobby. It seems quite common problem when the guests arrive at the hotel, as a Grab driver said, but it has not been improved yet. I also suggested to add some guidance in the email, but the doorman looked no interest for that. - Unwelcome drink: We were served welcome drinks when we were queuing for checking in. Though we had some stuffs, the reception lady just urged us to receive that. - No guide for breakfast: Though we had booked the plan with breakfast, the reception didn't tell any information about that. - Unclean water: The water filled in the bathtub was brown-colored. I have been craving for bathtub, but I couldn't finally get in. The stay here was disappointing.
