We have just left Sandy Lane after an appalling Sunday Brunch. We've been going there for a number of years and that's why I felt compelled to write a review of how bad it was. We were led to our table and there was bird faeces on the back cushion of two seats which we asked the staff to replace which they reluctantly did. We quickly realised why our seats were soiled when we saw birds swarming around the tables inside and sitting on the dessert buffet munching the desserts which we were then supposed to enjoy. The birds were also constantly buzzing around the plate clearing stations and the staff occasionally flicked a hand at them but didn't seem bothered. When the issue was raised we were brushed off as if we were overly fussy idiots who should just get on with it and literally told " what can we do to stop it"..... We'll I'm no restauranter but let me provide a couple of ideas... 1. Don't leave endless plates of cleared food on trays at each station which simply attracts the birds in droves. 2. Cover the desserts with food umbrellas. I'd guess 75% of the desserts were uncovered and as you can see from the photos the birds were grateful. However having seen this going on throughout our meal there wasn't a dessert we felt safe eating.. We've been to SL many times and it's not a cheap lunch but it's supposed to offer world class charm and service.....neither were evident today. I'd have been shocked in the main square in Marrakech to have had such unhygienic practices and staff who were genuinely puzzled at our dissatisfaction . We were told nobody else complained but we saw at least two other groups complaining and asking to be reseated. My son who was hosting a family lunch asked to see the manager and was kept waiting endlessly and eventually told he was simply trying to extract a discount.. Not only is this disrespectful it's wholly inaccurate given we've stayed there and eaten there a lot before and never once complained. I've attached photos from our visit and reviewers can decide for themselves if this is us being overly pernickety and if they'd like to tuck into the dessert buffet after the cast of Alfred Hitchcock's birds have been there first....

Sandy Lane is the standard against which every Caribbean resort measures itself and almost none reach it. The coral stone architecture, the immaculate beach on the protected west coast of Barbados, the Old Nine and Green Monkey golf courses — everything here operates at a level that is genuinely rare. The beach is flawless, the kind of white sand and clear water you see in photographs and think must be edited. It is not. The Spa at Sandy Lane is legendary — multiple levels carved into the hillside, treatment rooms that are private sanctuaries, and a level of care and expertise that matches the finest spas anywhere in the world. The dining across property is excellent from the main restaurant to the beach grill. The staff-to-guest ratio means you are never waiting and never feeling overlooked. Barbados itself is one of the most sophisticated Caribbean islands — deep culture, incredible food scene off property, warmth from the people that is genuine. Sandy Lane gives you the best of the island with the best resort experience layered on top. I have been to the great Caribbean properties. This one sits at the top.

Quite simply a Beautiful Hotel situated practically on the Beach in Holetown in the Parish of St James. The Staff are extremely knowledgeable, friendly and attentive. Whether you stay here, come along for Afternoon Tea or treat yourselves to Dinner you will always be made to feel like a King/Queen.

We have just returned from our honeymoon week at Sandy Lane. It is utterly world class, from the moment you arrive at the airport and are collected to when you are dropped off to depart. Every single second in between, whatever your interests, are sensational and special. We will be back! Sandy Laners for life.

Excellent afternoon tea, one of the best. It was a birthday celebration and one that we shall not forget. All aspects of our time there, were made extra special by Jackie who looked after us. Thank you Jackie, we'll be back. Thanks also to the Doorman and the Valet team.
