The hotel needs to immediately work on its reception staff. They are so unhelpful and unfriendly. There is such a big difference between the service of the reception staff and the staff at the restaurants or the cleaning staff. Reception staff are like robots who follow a script and behave inhumanly.
Another thing to note is that we were placed in the worst building of the hotel. We haven’t accepted that and had to pay an upgrade to get a better room, with which we were happy.
The staff at the restaurant and bars are very friendly and hard working. Thanks a lot for that.
The manager lady (from Croatia) was so kind and friendly and helpful- she managed to get us a booking at the restaurant for my birthday and that was extremely appreciated. Thanks so much for such kind gesture!
Look, the place is clean, green and beautiful, but you have these people at reception who within minutes can ruin your mood. We enjoyed here our stay, and might even recommend it to our friends who plan on visiting Zanzibar, but we need to see improvements in customer service!

So our reviews in the first and last day were completely different, I left the hotel with many sweet memories and a big smile. People are very friendly and helpful, many things to do around. The hotel’s garden is very beautiful. Sea is just stunning, even that is enough to choose Riu. I would give 5 if food would be better but that part didn’t give us 5 star hotel experience.

Having a great experience at RIU Palace Zanzibar. Staff is really kind, Nestory is very polite and support my requests in the pool area near Ginger bar.
From 6-7pm there is no regular service of food, but when requested the staff kindly brought me some chicken sandwiches so I can survive until dinner time (I was outside the hotel during the day in a tour and wasn’t able to eat properly).
Very peaceful hotel, since is adults only. I’m truly enjoying the experience.

WORST hotel experience ever! Extremely disappointing at ALL LEVELS. The only good thing is the beach access because yes nice sea. To anyone that like me wants to book a villa with the pool, make no mistake: it is a mess!!! The “pool” is around 30/40 cm deep………. No comment!!!! Also give up if you want to sleep past 6 am! The villa is in such an estate of terrible maintenance to say the least, that after 6 am the curtains cover nothing and you have full light over you. Try to complain to anything to reception- useless and rude. TRY TO GET ROOM SERVICE???? Non existent!!!! This should BE SOMETHING CLEARLY MENTIONED never in my life have seen a 5 star hotel with NO ROOM SERVICE AT ALL. Forget snacks… the bars open are for drinks only and the “snack place” is probably where I got food poisoning - and yes even with food poisoning no room service was allowed! Only after spending days talking to the manager and to the travel agency were we able to get some food delivered like twice… the 4 first days of our stay were just complaining to try to at least have black out curtains, room service at least due to illness, the list goes on!!! Trying!!! It is not vacation is hell! You pay for a 5* you expect a 5* service. More! Beds are hard as a rock forget beauty sleep at all forget sleeping! Oh and also forget about asking for a golf cart to take you anywhere at all. You will be waiting until next year… we tried several times never not once they came! btw buffet is not good and this all inclusive plan they have really only worth it for alcoholics… because everything else is just ridiculous.
