We stayed at Platinum Yucatán Princess for our honeymoon and were extremely disappointed with the overall experience. Prior to arrival, we emailed multiple times about the advertised honeymoon package and never received a response, meaning we were unable to avail of anything at check-in. The check-in process itself felt rushed and impersonal — no welcome drink, minimal explanation of amenities, and we were placed in one of the furthest buildings from the beach and restaurants. Our room had a strong musty smell on arrival and showed visible wear and tear (rust marks on the floor, stained bathtub we couldn’t use, rusty bin, loose fixtures). While housekeeping provided fresh towels daily and the bed was comfortable, the room did not reflect a 5-star standard. Food was average but repetitive, and restaurant reservations are not available. We queued most mornings for the self-service breakfast buffet despite empty tables inside. Valentine’s Day menus and certain seating areas required additional payment, which felt misleading at an “all-inclusive” resort. Cocktails are made using pre-mixed ingredients and were very poor unless you specifically instructed bartenders and requested premium liquor. For a resort in Mexico, the margaritas were particularly disappointing. The pools were clean and landscaping is nice, but the beach is narrow, rocky (water shoes needed), and seaweed buildup was heavy at times. We were also surprised to see children on the beach despite this being marketed as adults-only. For the price point and reputation, this was not a luxury honeymoon experience and we would not return.

Important Note: If you are booking a Junior Deluxe Suite as a couple, it is strongly recommended to contact the hotel in advance and specifically request a king bed. Otherwise, they tend to default to two double beds unless this is clearly communicated prior to check-in. Food: The buffet offerings are average in quality and often not served hot. However, the a la carte restaurants are a highlight, with good food and a much better dining experience overall. Their room service foods are pretty good too. Rooms & Service: The rooms are comfortable, drinks are decent (except that the drinks are not measured using jiggers so the taste differs all time). The staff are friendly and welcoming, and the resort offers enjoyable activities throughout the day. Beach: The beach directly at this resort is disappointing due to a significant amount of seaweed. To enjoy a better beach experience, you need to walk over to the Grand Sunset side. Overall: A decent resort with good service, rooms, and restaurants, but with room for improvement in buffet quality, cocktail jiggers for drinks and beach conditions.

I had great weather during my stay, but my first night (Dec. 31) was awful. I arrived at the hotel late 10pm, had to get a burger and quickly de-plane so I can enjoy the NYE celebrations, which strangely was a "rock" theme. At any rate, once I returned to my room I noticed a foul odour. It smelled of wet, mould. Turns out- it was the bed! I returned to my room after midnight, so I didn't think any remedy was available to me NYE after midnight, so I had to suffer through the smelliest bed linens I've ever experienced AT A "FIVE STAR HOTEL". Unacceptable. I did not sleep at all. It was a horrible first night. The smell was foul. The next day I informed the concierge, and by the afternoon, they had remedied the issue- or at least replaced the foul linens (thankfully it wasn't the mattress) and perfumed the room. Ok. But this type of thing should simply not occur. Be warned, I am not the only one who experienced this problem. I am fluent in Spanish and I overheard the concierge tell a housekeeper to look into another room with the same problem. Clearly there is a quality control issue here. While, yes, they do make it right, I still suffered a horrible night stay. The rest of my stay was good. The staff at the buffet was friendly, the bartenders were nice. The entertainment was very impressive. They do a good job of showcasing latin culture and Mexican culture, which I very much appreciate. The concierge, Fernanda, did a nice gesture for me and left a bottle of prosecco in my room on the 3rd night. While appreciated, it still does not make up for a horrible night of sleep. Be warned.

Brilliant last 10 days spent here thoroughly enjoyable all round, the food is adequate. Beds are comfy and the minibar is topped up with a good selection. Moving between the hotels was easy too with the crew. Weather could’ve been a touch better for the stay but you can’t have it all your own way! Met some great people on this trip and would return for sure. Special shout out to javier who is excellent and a very fun helpful guy. Maybe he should get a second monster truck. Israel is really helpful in anything you need to ask or assist with throughout the day. The entertainment team are a great hunch, lots of thinks going on around the hotel too to keep you entertained all day and they make you feel welcome all stay once they know your name! Top bunch. Thanks!

If I could at least help one person I’ll be happy. Please do not book this hotel. This is maybe at best a 2 star resort. Nowhere near a 5 star! We are NOT picky or over the top people. This hotel is absolutely disgusting. Bathrooms are covered in mold. BLACK MOLD. Shower heads covered in BLACK MOLD. We had a swim out suite and the tiles on the patio were loose and cracked. Room had strong mold oder. Cockroach by nightstand when we woke up in the morning. We know well about humidity and bugs being from Florida and this place is just gross. Day two we couldn’t stand it any longer and checked out. We were so sick from dinner the night before and so dehydrated from vomiting all night. We asked to speak with the hotel manager and they didn’t budge one bit on wanting to credit us. Finally , after reaching out to multiple higher ups, accounting department wanted to issue me a credit and asked me for my banking info, address , and a picture of our bank statement?!? I’m like excuse me what? Long story short now disputing charges. After speaking to an employee the hotel is in bad shape. It was at 44% capacity and they have never been that slow. He also stated that there’s suppose to be over 1000 employees and they are just under 500 because they are all leaving. Please please please do you your research and stay away. There’s so many other places to choose from.
