The Pestana Ocean Bay All Inclusive Hotel offered us a relaxing atmosphere and beautiful ocean sunset views. My wife and I had a great time there. We spent 7 days there. The food was fresh and delicious. The drinks were good. We especially liked the white wine. The service was also great. Our room was spacious and comfortable with daily sheets changed.

Location is superb - we haven't seen any hotels closer to the beach, than ours. One can go swim in the ocean and then sunbathe comfortably at the pool area. Rooms were nice and overall clean, but there was a lot of dust under the bed. Amazing staff at the bar and in the dining area. Also on Tuesdays there are a stretching and an aqua aerobic lessons performed by wonderful Diana. She is truly a gem, she helped me relieve the pain of my after-levada sore muscles. Highly recommend!

Very nice hotel and holiday destination. All the staff are very cheerful and clearly work hard. The 2 pools are great and their are plenty of sun loungers. The beach is adjacent to the hotel (literally 2 meters from rear entrance). The rooms are of a good standard, clean and comfortable. There is no air con but if you leave the balcony door open you get sea breeze all night and the sound of the ocean so that helps with sleeping. Food is standard buffet type meals with a wide variety of choices, but these are replicated most evenings, there doesn't seem to be themed nights so an occasional meal out is essential. Shuttle bus into Funchal centre picks up twice a day for free and there are multiple paid bus links too. It's only 15 mins to get to the city centre and then there is lots to do or any number of trips and excursions you can book. The only downside is the hotel is situated at the bottom of very steep hills on all sides so if you want to walk somewhere local the first 10 mins are quite arduous. The coastal walk is very nice though if you just want a stroll and no hills. There is self service for soft drinks, hot beverages and beer available all day and other drinks can be got from the bar until 11pm.

We stayed here when our flight home from Funchal was grounded due to high winds. This was the second hotel we were moved to after being next door at the Pestana Royale. What we really liked about this hotel was our room and especially the view from the balcony which was the beautiful sea. What a view and what a lovely sound of the waves. So relaxing. The room was clean and well appointed and also had a sofa and small kitchen area. We were on the 7th floor. The restaurant was quite basic but all inclusive and had some snacks and drinks available in the day, as well as a small bar. It wasn't that well staffed. The food was also quite basic, like the kind of food you would eat at home rather than something you'd expect in a hotel. Some of the food combinations seemed a bit odd and the layout didn't make sense. For example the bread was at one end and the butter was at the far end. Breakfast was also quite basic and no vegetarian sausage options or soya milk available. Theres no indoor pool here. The outside pool looks good but it was too cold to go in during our December stay. There was supposed to be a gym but we couldn't find it. When we checked out, the receptionist very kindly offered everyone a picnic to take away, which was a really lovely gesture. The receptionist worked really hard, in what was a difficult situation processing so many people at once because of the flight cancellation and I appreciated their hard work. The hotel itself is down a hill and its quite a steep walk to the street above. There's a mall about 15 minutes walk away but to get into Funchal you'd need a bus or taxi.

Agostino on reception (apologies if I haven't got the name spelled correctly) is the most polite, friendly and helpful person I have had the pleasure to meet. Nothing was too much trouble for him to help us. He is a credit to the company. All the staff are great actually. I must mention all the waiting staff who work hard to keep the tables so clean and free from leftover plates etc. All done with a friendly smile too. It makes such a difference, making
