This is a lovely hotel, great location! Yes, the rooms can be a bit old, but the multiple pools are a winner!
The breakfasts are excellent, the lunches are great!
The employees who make the cocktails are the best!
I enjoyed everything very much!
I will be back thank you to the bar worker, good health to your family

Great hotel away from the core of Funchal that it was relaxing and quiet. The hotel is located on top of a hill which provided stunning views of the coast and scenery - not to mention picturesque infinity and rooftop pools during the sunset. The staff were all courteous and welcoming, particularly for dining. The restaurant is open for buffet with breakfast from 7am-11am and dinner from 7pm-930pm. I would consider only opting in for dinner next time versus half board as the variety and selection changes each evening with a vast focus on the cold dishes which were all fresh and delicious with seafood varieties. Overall, really enjoyable and comfortable stay, and a short walk down to the harbour and Funchal central area (although many amenities either within or a stone throw away that you wouldn't also need to leave the property).

This is a well situated hotel for Funchal and walking into the centre. It is also well served by taxis and good local restaurants and bars. However, since staying here a few years ago, I would say that the service levels have slipped. Don’t get me wrong, there are amazing staff, but having so many people working at reception and other areas, you get inconsistent advice about the hotel services. Also I feel that the breakfast area needs a rethink. It does not seem to cope very well at busier times with some peoples places being cleaned up while they are in queues for food, while empty tables are left not cleaned. As for tea and coffee, seldom able to order

I've given an overall rating for this hotel of 4 stars purely based on the fact that the rooms and I can only assume some of them could do with a refresh. I understand that the Pestana Group want to keep the hotel as near to the original design by the Brazilian architect with the dark wood etc. but this can still be achieved incorporating a paint refresh and little tweaks in the room. Could do with more sockets in the room and more coat hangers. Hair dryers need updating. Please be aware that there are no tea/ coffee making facilities in the room but are available if you ask house is keeping for them. Robes are also available from housekeeping. None of the above will put me off staying here again. We have stayed here many times, the public areas are really nice and plenty of outdoor seating areas but above all the location is five star. Plenty of nearby eating places, a two minute walk to the park which leads you into Funchal. Amazing views of the city, even better at night when the whole mountain side looks magical with all of the lights from the houses twinkling. Fantastic view of the port where you can sit in the hotel pool bar area and watch the cruise ships come and go. Will be booking to go back next year.

We were having a lovely stay until this hotel decided to f all it's paying guests by hosting an extremely loud daytime dance party on the roof. The food is amazing, pool is lovely, staff do a great job, and the location is fantastic. But fancy a relaxing pool day? You won't find it here. Despite having paid for the roof top pool facility, not only can we not use it today, we're subjected to this extremely loud music. We are basically paying to be tortured. There is no escaping it anywhere in the hotel and I worry we will be subjected to this rave all night. So much for a chill day by the pool reading. Can't chat, can't read, can hardly hear ourselves think. Pestana, you're either a hotel or a party/rave location. You can't be both. Nice to know you value what I assume is the extra money you get for renting out your roof top over paying guests. I was all set to leave you a 5 star review until today.
EDIT: the hotel's response is a copy and paste job from another complaint on here about noise a few months ago. Clearly they make no effort at all to improve things because why bother when the guests will change every week or two anyway?
