It breaks my heart to write this review right in the middle of my trip - specially because this was my birthday trip and we were really looking forward to it. If you’re a vegetarian or have any dietary restrictions please SKIP this resort. I write this after visiting a few all inclusive hotels in the Caribbean - this place by far has the most substandard food. It’s almost like they don’t care at all - they don’t even bother to keep 2-3 decent tasting vegetarian dishes. Food is wrongly labeled at the buffet, I found meat in rice that I confirmed was vegetarian. This happened on my birthday, which was even more pathetic. We have actually been going out of the resort to eat decent food. What’s good ? The beach, location, landscaping, some rooms (we had to change the room once), the bar! Property in general is well maintained, it’s a large one to maintain! Entertainment and activities, pools. Bad? Obviously food (run far and fast if you’re vegetarian) they even have a skill to make pretty looking horrible tasting baked goods, coffee (if you’ve ever had half decent cappuccino in your life, you’ll know what comes out of the machine is not a cappuccino at all - and latte, americano, cappuccino all look the same). You won’t be disappointed if you’re expecting a 3 star type of hotel.

Overall, my stay at your hotel was a positive experience. The reception staff were kind and helpful, and the rooms were clean and well maintained. I was generally satisfied with the facilities and atmosphere. I would, however, like to offer a few suggestions for improvement. In the dining area, including beef or lamb options would be beneficial, as this is important for many guests. Additionally, more attention to staff training and behavior would greatly enhance the service quality. With greater emphasis on courtesy and professionalism, the guest experience could be significantly improved. Guests choose this hotel expecting a high standard of service, and respectful, professional behavior plays an important role in encouraging future visits.

We had a great experience at Occidental Punta Cana! The staff was welcoming and helpful from the moment we arrived. The resort is beautiful, clean, and full of tropical charm. The beach is stunning with soft white sand and clear water, and there were always plenty of loungers. The pools were also great, with both fun and relaxing areas. The food and drinks were okay; we’re just used to a different type of cuisine, but there was variety and always something fresh at the buffet. The à la carte restaurants could use a more special menu. The bartenders were friendly and kept the drinks coming. The entertainment was one of our favorite parts, with live music, shows, and lots of daytime activities. But it was also easy for us to find quiet spots to relax. Overall, we felt the resort exceeded our expectations. It was the perfect mix of relaxation and fun, and the staff goes above and beyond. We would definitely come back!

Our first trip to the DR was a great experience overall, especially since we found such a good deal here. However, while we loved many aspects of our stay, there are several areas where the hotel could elevate the guest experience. ​What we loved: ​Dining: The food and service were excellent, particularly at the Italian restaurant. ​Staff: The hospitality was a highlight—everyone was incredibly warm and courteous. ​The Beach: Stunning views and very easy access to the sand and water. ​Areas for improvement: ​Wi-Fi: The connectivity is very poor. We had no signal at the buffet or the Kids Club. The resort needs signal amplifiers to ensure coverage in common areas. ​Buffet Labeling: As limited meat-eaters, it was difficult to distinguish between pork and chicken dishes. Clearer food labels are a must for guests with dietary preferences. ​Kids Club: The staff member (Odeline) was lovely and extremely loving. But the facility was disappointing. There was no AC (making it uncomfortably hot), and the play area was under construction for our entire 4-day stay. ​Entertainment Schedule: Most shows conflict with the 6:00 PM dinner rush.

When booking our stay in Punta Cana, we decided to go with the Occidental because of its great reviews; many praised its service, food quality and amenities. However, what we experienced was beyond different. In terms of service, the ‘all inclusive’ service would make you think there actually is a good service, nevertheless we were forced to stand for hours just to wait for drinks, which were served in small cups and often tasted as if they were expired or simply old. This could be improved with access to soda fountains or even faster attention. Food is not readily available with restaurants opening at different hours and a very scarce snack bar. Even with whats available, the food quality is extremely poor, and offers small variations of taste, with no healthy options, and once again, long lines to simply be served. Even the least essential items such as tea bags or good coffee are hard to find and often dismissed by less-than-courteous service. All this comes hand in hand with a relatively dirty, outdated room with small beds, poorly ventilated bathrooms and a general stench outside the buildings. Nevertheless, there are good qualities to the hotel. The access to the beach is very nice and comfortable, there is a good area that connects you directly to the ocean. However, don’t be fooled as there are barely any chairs that work, and you will be forced to leave with time to search for space to sit. Even if you arrive early you will find the crowds searching for functioning chairs, which removes the whole ‘relaxing’ vacation experience we hoped for. In the beach, the access to drinks is also limited, with a singular bar close to the area that often required a 10+ minute wait for anything. In general, the hotel is 20 years outdated, and way beyond expensive for what you get. I wouldn’t recommend staying here unless you want to spend more time standing in line than enjoying the beach.
