Definitely not a 5 star. 3 at best and that's being generous. Food less then average. Water shortages (plural) frequently no towels in the rooms, very very few staff speaking any kind of English. Wifi poor, many offline moments. Had to change rooms first night due to a leak in ceiling next to bed, some of wife's clothes drenched, given all going on she doesn't trust cleaning services to clean them. Had couple issues with room cards not working. The gift shop has outrageous prices, more so then most other hotels on the island, not my first stay in punta Cana. I will return to the island as I've always had a positive experience, just NEVER returning here. We're leaving tomorrow, can't believe I'm saying this but I can't wait. On a positive note I lost 5 lbs from not eating much. Supplementary, still waiting now almost an hour for towels that we were told would be "uno momento", need to clean up for dinner reservations. DONE WITH THIS PLACE! Tomorrow can't come soon enough

Unfortunately, we were quite disappointed with the hotel. It is by no means worthy of five stars; if I am very generous, I might give it four, but realistically it deserves only three stars. The hotel is clean, looks decent, and the staff are friendly, but that is where the positives end. Very few employees speak English, the food is average—often better in three-star hotels. Sun loungers by the pools are constantly occupied, as guests reserve them early in the morning by placing towels on them and only come to the pool after 3:00 PM. This behavior is not supervised, and the hotel staff allow it to continue. One day I even had to lie on the grass until a lounger became available. Housekeeping provided too few towels every day, and one day we did not receive any at all. It was difficult to communicate this, as the staff do not understand English. Despite leaving a daily tip of $5 or $10, we never once received additional small towels. Yesterday, the hotel was without water for half the day, which caused further inconvenience. You can imagine the condition of the shared restrooms. Overall, we were very disappointed with a hotel advertised as five-star. In other parts of the world, a five-star rating represents a completely different level of service than what is offered here.

My first time in Punta Cana and at Occidental, and it was pretty nice. Kelvin Martinez “Professional” is a great person to have representing your company. Very polite, helpful and overall did so much for us and everyone else always with a smile on his face. The food is decent, could’ve been better but wasn’t horrible by all means. Pools were very nice and clean. The rooms were very clean and house keeping was great. The bartenders were very helpful and polite. Transportation from the airport to our hotels and to excursions was pretty good, and all the drivers were polite. The beach was pretty as you’d expect. Overall everything was pretty great.

We had a great experience at Occidental Punta Cana! The staff was welcoming and helpful from the moment we arrived. The resort is beautiful, clean, and full of tropical charm. The beach is stunning with soft white sand and clear water, and there were always plenty of loungers. The pools were also great, with both fun and relaxing areas. The food and drinks were okay; we’re just used to a different type of cuisine, but there was variety and always something fresh at the buffet. The à la carte restaurants could use a more special menu. The bartenders were friendly and kept the drinks coming. The entertainment was one of our favorite parts, with live music, shows, and lots of daytime activities. But it was also easy for us to find quiet spots to relax. Overall, we felt the resort exceeded our expectations. It was the perfect mix of relaxation and fun, and the staff goes above and beyond. We would definitely come back!

Our first trip to the DR was a great experience overall, especially since we found such a good deal here. However, while we loved many aspects of our stay, there are several areas where the hotel could elevate the guest experience. ​What we loved: ​Dining: The food and service were excellent, particularly at the Italian restaurant. ​Staff: The hospitality was a highlight—everyone was incredibly warm and courteous. ​The Beach: Stunning views and very easy access to the sand and water. ​Areas for improvement: ​Wi-Fi: The connectivity is very poor. We had no signal at the buffet or the Kids Club. The resort needs signal amplifiers to ensure coverage in common areas. ​Buffet Labeling: As limited meat-eaters, it was difficult to distinguish between pork and chicken dishes. Clearer food labels are a must for guests with dietary preferences. ​Kids Club: The staff member (Odeline) was lovely and extremely loving. But the facility was disappointing. There was no AC (making it uncomfortably hot), and the play area was under construction for our entire 4-day stay. ​Entertainment Schedule: Most shows conflict with the 6:00 PM dinner rush.
