Our stay at the resort was pretty great all around! The grounds are very well kept, the rooms were always clean and the staff everywhere we went were so friendly. We stayed in the Royal Level, which is a valuable upgrade. The Royal Restaurant was by far the best food that we ate the entire vacation. Pamolu, Ambrosio, Carlos, Francisco & Leyver were great servers all day long, from room service to the restaurant! Moses was one of the coolest guys around the resort. Very welcoming and friendly. He’d always make a point to say hi to me on my daily runs!

The people are great, rooms and amenities can use some attention but the people are great. They are very friendly and eager to help. I hung out at the pool by the club most of the time because it was more family oriented and not so loud, all the bartenders were friendly, funny and very helpful. My family and I felt welcome everywhere. Some people that helped us worth mentioning by name are David at our Lobby (building 22) Tomas, who we met at the snacks restaurant, he has a very contagious personality and makes everything fun and can easily turn a frown to a smile, and Miss. Bellita at the occidental restaurant who answered all my questions about the menu, went out of her way to make sure I enjoy my food. The smile and great personalities of all these people and others made our stay pleasant. For my liking, the hotel and amenities have room for improvement but their team is very good and make up for the hotel shortcomings.

The best part of the hotel was Bellita Cen. She gave awesome service and made my night. She was quick, a good listener, and followed all my requests. I especially enjoyed her fire performance during dessert time. Francisco was another very great server. He made good conversations and was super friendly. Overall, he made the dining experience very pleasant and lifted up the mood. Would definitely want him to serve me again.

Currently at Occidental @ Playa del Carmen. Facilities are excellent. Restaurant staff excellent. Our concierge (Israel)- outstanding. One negative is with check in and lobby staff. If you expect help to your room at check in -forget it. You can scan a QR code and figure it out yourself - NO map, no directions. This is a TERRIBLE way to start your vacation. The place is HUGE, heavily wooded and tropical and you can get lost quickly. If you need to change US dollars forget it. (I went through 50 singles for tips in less than 3 days) They only exchange for pesos (with a 20% exchange rate) - 15.5 pesos for $1 instead of 20.6 current exchange rate. So - bring plenty of dollars if you want to tip these great shuttle drivers, servers, concierge, and bartenders. (they like and appreciate dollars) The other negative ( mentioned in many other reviews) is the constant pitching of the 45 minute “ tour” to buy into their “ vacation club” / timeshare. Don’t bother. One “opportunity” for the resort is the single cook stations at each of the breakfast locations. The lines and wait are ridiculous. The food ( if you choose to wait) is great but it CANNOT be that difficult to open 2 cook stations at each of the 2 breakfast locations? The view, the wildlife, the service ( mostly) are excellent. The food is WAY better than the Riu resorts where we used to stay. Not as good as Sandals - but half the price. We will definitely return. It is a Beautiful, cost effective, and natural alternative to Sandals and many other tropical resorts.

We had a wonderful dining experience at the oriental restaurant, and a big part of that was thanks to our amazing server, Bellita Cen. From the moment we arrived, Bellita greeted us with a warm and friendly smile, making us feel right at home. She was attentive and went out of her way to accommodate special changes to my order by checking with the kitchen, which we really appreciated. At one point, I had to step outside, and my daughter was left alone at the table until my husband returned. Bellita was kind and considerate, making sure everything was comfortable and smooth. Bellita’s service was thoughtful, professional, and genuine from start to finish. She truly deserves to be valued and recognized for her exceptional work and dedication. A server like her is a true asset to any team.
