Nungwi Beach Resort by Turaco

We stayed in this resort for 8 nights. Nothing can explain what an amazing experience it was. From the moment we checked in we felt extremely welcomed and all the stuff are so kind and answer and help with any request. First, the rooms. I was plesantly surprised when we arrived in the room. Very clean, beautiful ocean view, comfortable bed, good air confitioning and the house keeping throughout the entire stay was 10/10. My boyfriend even had birthday there and the room was so nicely decorated. Secondary, the location is the best. You have access right direct to the ocean, and the beaches in Zanzibar can get crowdy, but not here in Turaco. I felt peace and safe on the beach, and the security were very polite and watched over us the entire time. The sea is beautiful crystal blue colour. On the third note, i want to point out the activities you can do in the resort. We were really surprised by the playing areas, such as ping-pong, picado, billyard, volleyball, and many more. That made our stay really fun, as you can play a little right when you come from your swim. It also has a beautiful swimming pool with a bar in it, and the cocktails are amazing! Really delicious, authentic, and nice colours. The bar team really did its job good. You also have a nice wellness area and a fitness. For the last thing i want to point out the food and the service, which was 10/10. All the service is incredibely polite, always came ask if we needed anything, and the food is delicious. So many different options for all types of taste. We stayed there through the New Years’ eve, and i have never seen anything like this. The buffet, international choices of varies types of food, fresh coconuts, juices, fire show, dance show, fireworks, they really out done themselves and it was crazy, definitely the best celebration of my life. I really recommend this resort, and will definitely come back soon. Thank you Turaco and thank you Zanzibar.

We had a nice 5 night stay. Our experience started off slightly rocky with some issues at check in and with things not working in the room (shower water pressure and draining, outlets not working). Regina (manager/ guest relations) quickly came to check on us and did everything she could to quickly get these issues resolved. The staff were all friendly and eager to help. The facility is nice, great location, our room was clean and mostly comfortable. the A/C did okay to keep the room cool— but not cold. WiFi in the rooms is very spotty. The gym facility is very small and doesn’t have much equipment. We did spend some time at the Spa which is also very minimal. Drinks were very good. Food was mostly good, breakfast buffet could have been better.

Exceptionally attentive staff in pool bar, housekeeping, and reception. Excellent room. Lovely pool and pool bar is fun! Beach is great, very nice to be separated from the beach boys, unfortunately many of the lounge chairs are uncomfortable from disrepair. Landscaping is beautiful. Beach is fabulous! Excellent assistance from activity booker. Biggest negative is the two restaurants are overpriced for the food value. Also, the gym is small and one of the few pieces of equipment, the elliptical, was broken. We would stay here again. 🇹🇿

This was our first visit to Zanzibar, and we booked the Turaco resort through an agency, expecting a 5-star hotel. Sadly, the experience was extremely disappointing, and this resort does not deserve more than 3 stars. The food was very poor. During all 7 days, the only thing I could eat for breakfast was an omelet. Flies were swarming around the food and refrigerators. Dinners were equally bad — I survived on salad, bread, and butter. The food quality and preparation were unacceptable. The bar near the pool was very dirty, as were the sun loungers, which were never cleaned. I have photos as proof. On one occasion, we received dirty towels with visible stains. The room was old and in bad condition: squeaky doors, damaged drawers, and extremely high humidity. Every morning our glasses and phones were wet. Turning off the air conditioning did not help. The resort seems focused only on charging money. Prices inside the resort were much higher than at nearby beach bars, which were cleaner and cheaper. Coffee prices were inconsistent, and once we were incorrectly charged even though it was supposed to be included. The taxi service arranged by the resort was unreliable and late both ways, leaving us waiting in the dark in an unsafe area. Even if offered for free, I would never return to this resort.

We spent 10 amazing nights at Turaco Nungwi Resort, and from the very first second we felt like truly special guests. Check-in was smooth and welcoming, with a dedicated area for Marriott Bonvoy members, which immediately set the tone for our stay. Throughout our time at the resort, the staff handled every request quickly and professionally. Special thanks to the wonderful restaurant team: Siwema, Hallima, Given, Benard, and Agnes, your warmth, smiles, and outstanding service made every meal a pleasure. Many thanks as well to the Front Desk team: Leah, Regina, Beatrith, and the lovely colleague who checked us in (unfortunately I forgot her name). A very special thank you to James Joseph, Front Office Manager, for the room upgrade, it truly elevated our experience. And finally, a heartfelt thank you to Samar Salloum. Although we never met in person, we were in contact for almost three months before the trip, carefully planning every detail to make this a dream vacation, and it absolutely was. This was my first time in Africa, and you showed us just how warm, kind, and genuinely hospitable people can be. Thank you to the entire team for an unforgettable experience.
