Fantastic location near Colombo with beautiful beach and see view. Food is very good and friendly staff. Hotel infrastructure has seen better days. AC wasn't working properly. It barely made the room habitable. Floor was bit dirty. But eventually it didn't ruin our holiday. I spent 2 relaxing dayes at the property. Overall 3.5/5

This is not just a buffet; it is a meticulously curated, five-star culinary event, and as a vegan, I can honestly say it was absolute heaven! ​The sheer scale and quality of the full buffet menu in a vegan way were breathtaking. It was genuinely challenging to decide where to start, with an incredible array of options spanning everything from various types of rice and artisan bread to numerous complex, flavorful curries and main courses. It wasn't just basic dishes; it was a gourmet spread that demonstrated incredible culinary skill. ​The dessert section deserves its own special mention, as there were so many unique and delicious vegan sweets—it felt like every indulgence was catered for without any compromise on taste or ethics. ​What truly elevates this experience to the highest level is the hotel’s commitment to quality. The dishes are prepared using organic certified food, and the staff proudly mentioned that they use ingredients that meet USDA certificate food standards. We would like to share some feedback regarding our wedding experience at Hotel Mount Lavinia. While the facilities were generally good, we were not fully satisfied with the service and coordination. Many times, we had to request things repeatedly or even argue to receive basic support. A few issues that caused inconvenience are listed below: When we requested a projector, we were told the hotel did not have one. It was surprising to hear that a 4-star hotel did not have this facility. On the morning of the wedding, no staff member was assigned to look after the tea table. Our guests who had travelled from Polonnaruwa were left unattended and felt uncomfortable. The changing room was provided with only a basic light connected with two wires, which did not feel suitable for bridal dressing. It was disappointing that those who were preparing and dressing us were not offered even a simple cup of tea or coffee as part of the hospitality. The coordinator informed us that the changing room was available only for six hours and that we would need to use our honeymoon room afterward if we needed more time. (However, we appreciate that we were eventually given another room.) As a newly married couple, we did not receive even a small gesture such as a complimentary cake or anything to make our experience memorable. Perhaps this is because we selected the lowest package, but we are unsure. During the wedding, the electricity went off three times, which caused interruptions and discomfort for us and our guests. At the beginning, the hall was not prepared with proper air-conditioning. Instead, we were given a fan, and while we appreciate the effort, it was uncomfortable to experience such a situation in a 4-star hotel—especially in front of our relatives. From the beginning, whenever we inquired about something, the immediate response was often “No.” Even a simple “We will try our best” would have made a positive difference. Such direct refusals from coordinators can affect the overall reputation of the hotel. We do not have any complaints about the physical facilities. However, we were not happy with the level of service or the responsiveness we experienced throughout the event. We were honestly very disappointed with the coordination. The coordinator mostly responded with direct refusals, so we had to sort things out through other staff. A few staff members were genuinely helpful, but the coordinator we worked with was not supportive at all.

Probably was a 4 star hotel many years ago, but is very tired now, more like a 3 star. Rooms are comfortable but need decorating, food was good, have a hearty breakfast to set up for the day, the Sunday lunch BBQ was nice. Staff were all excellent and helpful. Wifi is a bit poor, better in communal areas, bad in room less than 10 meters from reception. Beach views good, nice pool Overall probably 3.5 stars

This is the worst dump we have ever stayed at. The hotel is not only over 210 years old, it looks and feels like it. When we arrived at 7:30 pm in the evening, they told us to wait a while for them to get our room ready as someone just checked out. I reminded them that the check in time is 2 pm and asked if we had arrived at 2 pm would we have had to wait until now to get our room. They said yes to which i responded something which i rather not repost here. When they took us to the room, it was a bad joke. The window could not be closed, and it was raining and storming inside the room making any notion of getting sleep impossible. We were very tired after driving for 5 hours from Kandy, but were considering going to a better place. They ended up offering us a half way acceptable room with a carpet that looked and smelled pre-historic. When we checked out and walked towards the elevator some of the wooden planks in the floor were coming out. Avoid this place at all cost.
