My room was located on the 52nd floor, with a magnificent view of the World Trade Centre and the Hudson River. The room was spacious, with a comfortable bed, large windows and modern furniture. Just outside the hotel you can immediately find the Subway, shops and a few nice places to visit, like the WTC memorial or the Oculus centre. There’s also a 24/7 gym accessible to all guests, with very basic equipment in a small room, but it does the trick for a week or two. The down sides of the hotel: -the shower was pretty difficult to use and understand, with low water pressure. -there were four elevators, with only one of them working. On a daily basis, I would usually have to wait ~10 minutes for my elevator to reach my floor, which also meant that the elevator made several stops on the way down, becoming too crowded for some people to enter. -after spending 3500$ on your room for a week, you’d expect to be able to leave your luggage for a few hours on the day of your checkout for free, right ? Well you can, but the staff demand a tip, which would obviously be more than a 10$ bill. In conclusion, this hotel is a great place to stay if you’re looking for a nice view at a great location in Manhattan. You’d think that for the price, there would be no downsides. But if you forget about the elevator issues, the shower pressure or the tips, it’s truly an amazing place to stay which made my first visit to New York unforgettable.

My stay at this hotel was extremely disappointing. The first issue appeared the moment I entered the assigned room. Despite the hotel promoting itself as entirely non-smoking, the room smelled strongly of smoke. It was clear that a previous guest had smoked inside, and yet the hotel still offered the room as if nothing was wrong. The biggest problem, however, was the security deposit. The hotel charges 150 USD per night, up to 600 USD per stay, and at checkout they do not release the funds. I was told at reception that the deposit would return in 3–5 days. This turned out to be completely untrue. After that period passed, I was informed by email that it actually takes 5–10 business days. Even worse, at checkout no proof of deposit release is provided. They simply print an empty page, which is completely unacceptable. It took more than three weeks of sending daily emails both to the hotel and to booking.com before the deposit was finally returned. During these conversations, I even learned that booking.com was not aware that the hotel takes such deposits at all. The entire situation caused unnecessary stress and made me feel that the property relies on foreign guests not following up, essentially hoping people will forget about their money. The whole experience was frustrating and unprofessional from start to finish. I strongly do not recommend this hotel, and travelers should be aware of these practices before booking.

Great Location and Solid Stay Overall The location is fantastic—so many subway stations nearby that make getting around super easy. The view we had of the North Tower Pool is surreal and definitely a highlight. The room itself was a bit small, but probably standard for NYC. The bathroom was a decent size, though. Beds and pillows were comfortable, and we had no issues sleeping. The water was extremely hot, which was great, though the water pressure was just okay—but still did the job. The shower head hose leaked and soaked the floor, which was a bit of a hassle. Our AC ran nonstop and never dropped below 70°F during our stay. We did have four people in the room using hair dryers and straighteners frequently, so that may have played a role. We did have some elevator issues; not everyday but enough to be an inconvenience and cause you to rethink your coming and going. The doors would sometimes close halfway, reopen 3–5 times, then finally shut and change floors. One person in our group tried to stop the door, and it closed on their forearm and started moving—thankfully, they were able to pull their arm out in time. Over our five-night stay, we had several instances where we waited 15+ minutes just to go up or down. Overall, we loved the hotel more for its location—easy access to transportation, easy access to outside food, and things to do. We felt safe around the hotel and appreciated the great price. This hotel will definitely be on top of our list when we return to New York!

A good hotel in downtown Manhattan. The higher floors offer great views; in my case, of the World Trade Center and the Hudson River. The rooms are nice and large with good furnishings (e.g., a sofa in front of the floor-to-ceiling window to enjoy the view). European guests will certainly expect a bit more from a 4-star hotel – nevertheless, I would recommend the M-Social and book it again anytime.

‼️AVOID AT ALL COST! THIS HOTEL IS A SCAM! I’ve never written a review like this before, but what M Social Hotel Downtown put us through was truly heartbreaking. We are non-smokers even smoke absolutely disgusts us yet they falsely accused us of triggering a smoking alarm twice, even during times we weren’t anywhere near the room. We were supposed to have complimentary water in our room, but upon arrival, nothing was there. Housekeeping never answered the phone, so we had to go all the way to reception just to request water, something so simple for a hotel to provide. On the last night, our room key suddenly stopped working. When we went to the front desk, they acted like this situation was unusual. Minutes after giving us a new card, they called our room saying the payment card “didn’t go through,” forcing us to return to reception AGAIN. They pretended not to know the reason but it was clearly related to the smoking fee they were planning to charge. A staff member approached us with so-called “records” showing the smoking alarm had been triggered twice. After checking, they admitted we weren’t there and said they would “waive the fee” but warned us that if it happened again, they’d need to inspect the room. At this point, the whole thing already felt like a setup. This hotel didn’t just ruin our stay, they ruined our entire New York trip. Instead of feeling excited and safe, we spent our night anxious, unable to sleep, and just counting down the minutes until we could leave. We went home believing the fees had been waived, as they clearly told us. Then we checked our account and saw a disgusting $1,000 charge. No notice. No explanation. Nothing. No one deserves to feel and experience this way on vacation. Avoid this hotel at all costs.
