We have just come back from the Melia Tortuga and I have no complaints whatsoever. The beach is lovely there is a cove next to bikini beach which is safe to swim and plenty of free sunbeds to use, you can use the ones in front of the cove which belong to next doors hotel. There is a lovely beach bar, a great place to watch the sunsets. The food is really good, there is a carvery every evening with lots of side dishes, salad bar and dessert bar. The all inclusive wine is very nice. The staff are friendly and helpful and housekeeping come every day. The evening entertainment is also good, it’s on a 7 day rotation, so if you are staying longer it maybe worthwhile popping to Santa Maria after the 7 days. Free shuttle bus in the day or €5 each way in a taxi of if you are feeling fit it’s a 40 minute walk each way. There is a late bar from 10-2 it was very quiet when we were there but you can get a drink and sit in the piazza. The pools have some mosaic tiles missing and a few broken sunbeds, a lot put their towels on in the early hours, but I mostly had no trouble finding one, there is also a swim up bar at the larger pool. You get one free meal at one of the al a carte restaurants per 7 night stay, we ate at Pasta Nostra which was nice. I had a problem with mosquitoes 🦟 probably from sitting in the piazza watching the live music as I had the air con on constantly in the room and never saw one. They don’t sell deet products there so take your own, the local stuff does not work! They have shampoo, conditioner and body wash and a slow hair dryer, but 10 minutes on the terrace followed by 2 minutes with the dryer soon sorted my hair. I felt very safe there too.

We booked the island tour with Antonio who is at the hotel, we had a minibus to ourselves as a private tour for our family. The driver arrived on time and the driver Aihilton (if I've spelt it correctly) was a star. Nothing was to much trouble for him and he went all out to make out tour special, taking us to places that you wouldn't normally see or visit. He was very knowledgeable about the island and took us to a local restaurant where we enjoyed the flavours of Cape Verde. If you want to see the island at its best please see Antonio at the Melia Tortuga.

The hotel offers good value for the price, especially with the all-inclusive package. It has excellent access to the beach and the staff are really kind and welcoming. Cleanliness could be improved and the rooms are fairly average. It’s not a true 5-star experience, but overall a good place for a holiday with a solid quality-to-price ratio.

Overall enjoyed our stay here. It's geared up for timeshare but is all inclusive. The rooms are spacious and the layout of the hotel and grounds make you feel you are hidden away. The restaurants are very much a mix of great service and variety to shocking service and cold food. The staff are very polite, helpful and friendly. The main pool is very loud all day with the same music blaring on repeat. There are insufficient loungers and limited space around the main pool. The pool bar doesn't have enough staff to feed the demand of the AI customers and if you stand in the wrong place, stinks of raw sewage but sure it's just the bins in the heat. The entertainment team were always bubbly and tried to get you feeling the holiday vibe and join in. The beach is quiet and spacious with plenty of loungers.

Overall, it was quite a nice experience. The hotel is nice, but what really makes it good is the staff, who are always ready to help you and they make you feel truly welcomed. I must say the food wasn't as good as we were expecting, even though there were loads of options. The beach is lovely, although you have to walk to the part that is right next to the one you walk to from the hotel (which is a bit too rocky). If you have trouble sleeping with too much light, it might not be the best option for you, as the blinds don't fully shade you from the sunlight. Apart from these points, we had a really good time!
