We recently stayed at Traders Hotel in Kuala Lumpur and had a mixed experience overall. One of the highlights of our visit was the Sky Bar Lounge, which offers a stunning, uninterrupted view of the Petronas Towers — truly a beautiful spot, especially in the evening. The drinks at the bar were well made and enjoyable, which added to the ambiance. However, the food left much to be desired. We ordered a pizza which unfortunately arrived cold and lacked flavor. The hot dog was served in what seemed to be a garlic bread roll and wasn’t prepared properly — a bit of a letdown, especially given the setting. The hotel itself is in a fantastic location, within easy walking distance to Suria KLCC, where you can catch the evening light show, explore the mall, or visit Aquaria — all great attractions for visitors. The room we stayed in was part of the refurbished section. While clean and equipped the room still felt quite worn and dated in places, suggesting the refurbishment wasn’t entirely comprehensive. Overall, Traders Hotel offers a great location and lovely views, especially from the Sky Bar, but there's definitely room for improvement in terms of food quality and room updates.

We booked a 7-night stay at Traders Hotel Kuala Lumpur expecting the high standards associated with a 5-star property. Unfortunately, our experience was extremely disappointing. Shortly after checking in, we noticed a strong and persistent cooking odor in our room around noon. We raised the issue with hotel staff, and to their credit, they moved us to another room. However, the exact same issue occurred in the new room. When we brought this up again, hotel management admitted that all rooms are affected by the same issue. This appears to be a systemic ventilation or exhaust problem that seriously compromises the comfort and experience of staying at this property. Due to the unbearable smell and lack of a viable solution, we decided to check out early and move to another hotel. Despite the circumstances, management refused to issue any refund for the unused nights. We also escalated the matter through Expedia, but the hotel maintained its stance. This is not the level of service or accountability one would expect from a hotel of this caliber. I strongly advise prospective guests to be aware of this issue, especially if you are sensitive to odors or expect a restful, high-quality stay. Traders Hotel KL may have a great location, but that’s not enough when basic comfort and customer care are lacking.

I still remember when Traders Hotel Kuala Lumpur first opened — it was the talk of the town. Its rooftop bar and pool quickly became the go-to spot for socialites, a vibrant venue where people went to see and be seen. Almost twenty years later, I had the opportunity to return and revisit this iconic property to see whether its service standards have stood the test of time. The concierge is located on the ground floor, adjacent to a casual café offering alfresco dining — a nice option for a quick lunch or coffee. A convenient buggy service is also available, whisking guests through the lush KLCC park to the Suria KLCC shopping mall and the iconic Petronas Twin Towers, perfect for those who prefer not to walk. Check-in is done on the first floor, where I was warmly welcomed by the Director of Operations, Ms Pamela Lee. I was granted access to the breakfast buffet at Global Chit Chat Restaurant, which offers an impressive spread — a delightful mix of Malay, Chinese, and Indian options, including the ever-iconic Nasi Lemak. The rooms are comfortable and spacious, though the décor is showing its age. In fact, the bathroom looked exactly as I remembered it from almost two decades ago! Still, everything was clean and well maintained. If you’re fortunate enough to be allocated a room facing the Petronas Twin Towers, you’ll be treated to a truly spectacular view — especially when the towers light up at night. Unfortunately, I wasn’t assigned one of those rooms this time despite my request, although to be fair, I hadn’t paid the premium for a Twin Towers view. The hotel’s rooftop pool continues to impress with its sweeping city views, and while the gym is relatively small, it offers adequate equipment for a basic workout. Location-wise, the hotel remains unbeatable. However, due to its dated interiors and aging facilities — particularly noticeable at the ground-floor concierge area and again during check-in — I would classify this property as more of a 4-star experience, rather than the 5-star standard it once represented. That said, service throughout the stay was consistently excellent. Special thanks to the attentive team at Global Chit Chat during breakfast, as well as the ever-helpful concierge staff. I would consider returning, especially if the room rates remain competitive. That said, with so many newer hotels in this prime area, offering strong value propositions, competition is fierce — and better alternatives are not hard to find.

Traders Hotel is modern, spotlessly clean, and perfectly located. The rooms are spacious, and the staff is incredibly friendly and helpful — they explain everything clearly and make you feel welcome from the start. Highly recommended! I attached photos of the view from the room window.
