We had a great stay at Loews Portofino Bay Hotel. The hotel is beautiful, service was excellent, and the room was very comfortable. Our family of five fit easily in a two-queen room with a rollaway. On-site food options were strong (good Starbucks, excellent gelateria, and Sal’s Market with quality Italian imports). It’s a little pricey for what you get, but that’s expected for a theme-park hotel. The water taxi was fast and convenient to Universal, CityWalk, and Islands of Adventure, and I never waited more than 15 minutes for transportation (we traveled during a winter storm, so experience may vary). The beds were exceptionally comfortable. One caution: the hotel has a heavy perfumed scent in common areas. It is pleasant, but it triggered migraines for me. Thankfully, the smell didn’t carry into the room, so I could rest and recover.

Location great! Rooms are decent. The toddler area at the pool was pretty trashy tho. There was rust on the metal poles and trash. Pool service was so slow at the big pool and then the waiter would get upset if you went to the bar directly. In their defense, it looked like they might be working 2 pools at once. One day there was throw up in a hallway outside. Litter could be found around the resort daily. The place could use a little face lift. I think the experience might be different without Kids and with use of some of the on-site restaurants, but we didnt do any of that. The night time singer in the balcony was pretty neat and the walk/boat to Universal was so nice I do not think this resort is worth the price point. Royal Pacific was far nicer.

The location to the parks was perfect! The bonus of early entry and the express pass made the trip fantastic. The rooms are outdated and could use some updates and care; our tub didn’t drain so showers meant standing in ankle-deep water and there’s nowhere to plug a cord directly in, you have to have a wall adapter. The restaurants were really good for the most part and the service all around d was fantastic! The hotel is gorgeous and we enjoyed spending time there as much as we did at the parks. Already planning our next stay!

As far as the room and location. That part fantastic. Very clean and safe feeling. It’s very close to the park. Even walking back from the park when the boats were closed, was not a bad walk. The staff is where it lost the last star for me. During check in they were very kind and helpful. Upon getting the bill I noticed we were charged for parking. Upon calling to state we did not use parking and did not agree to parking. That part was stated at check in. Uber was cheaper than getting a rental for a week. The hotel would not reverse that charge. Even stating my case that they could look at the key cards for when my nonexistent car left the lot. They declined my refund.

I was very impressed with this place! It felt like being in little Italy. The room was perfect and the amenities were actually great. The beach pool was so cool! We went on a weekend where it was in the high 60s/low 70s so the hot tub was very nice to discover! Being able to order drinks poolside felt so luxurious. The boat that brings you to universal was so convenient, that was such a nice service. Janine at the front desk deserves a raise! She was the most helpful person I have met, hands down. She helped get us our universal passes, explained everything and was just so kind. She even gave us some coupons to use around CityWalk and my husband scored a free lanyard. This place makes it hard to leave, we had such a great time!! Thank you everyone at portofino
