I want to preface my review by stating that we were a party of 13 that were sold on going to "Hyatt Ziva Cancun" by the travel agent so when we started going to opposite direction from the airport, we were automatically a little confused. I stated this early because all of our planning and itinerary was based upon this, and yet the "Hyatt Ziva Riviera Cancun" was where we were actually staying. If you know this going into your trip, maybe this place is what you are looking for. For us, it was not. The road to nowhere. The resort is 35-45 mins south of Cancun, and pretty much anything else you'd actually want to do aside from stay at the resort. Which, for some, may not be bad, but if you like the beach, this place is not for you, but we'll get to that. The road to the resort is a long, narrow dirt road littered with potholes and surrounded by a dense thicket that we were told is full of crocodiles. So much so that a couple of the drivers' services I reached out to refused to come to the resort citing the condition of the road was too rough for their vehicles. Luckily, we did connect with a great guy to drive us around, but it was costly being so far from everything. The resort is adequate. The rooms were clean, and there was an air conditioning problem in my room, which caused the room to be so humid the bed felt wet when we went to go to sleep. The facilities were nice. The gym was good, spa very nice, and the grounds well kept. One of the downsides of the resort was the food. The food at the outside bars (burgers, tacos, etc) were the best places to eat. The breakfast buffet was not bad, but the others were barely above school lunchroom food. Stay away from the pastries, most of them taste like they were made with paint thinner and even the kids wouldn't eat the sweets. The beach, or should I say, lack thereof. If you want a nice sandy beach to enjoy while frolicking in the waves, this is not the place for you. If you like a 6' strip of sand, followed by 50 yards of rock covered in seaweed and no ability to play in the ocean, this is the spot for you. They do have pools close to the ocean, so there is that. The staff. This we the saving grace of this place. The staff members are fantastic. They are friendly, helpful, and great in every way. If this establishment has any success, it's 100% due to the amazing workers they have. I will not be returning, but this may be the place for you.

DTECONSUL
Stayed from 5/28/25 to 6/1/25. Fantastic family friendly resort that offers a great value trade-off if you’re not crazy about the beach. Although the beach is unfinished, the resort makes up for it plenty with great food, pools, and activities. I also appreciate the “edutainment” which was provided by the guest nutritionalist, Esther. Never imagined I’d learn anything while on vacation but this resort certainly proved me wrong. If I can offer any critiques, I’d say to make it a priority to have all the restaurants open every night, especially on the weekends. I wasn’t able to enjoy the Mexican, French, nor the Italian restaurants due to closures. However, I will take that as an opportunity to visit the resort again in the future.

Overall a great experience. The room was large and clean. The staff, extremely friendly and accommodating. We spent most days in the pool. The ocean is not much of an option - as other reviews point out - but that didn’t detract from the trip. The drinks were flowing and food was better than expected. Sandy our butler gave daily correspondence with activities and restaurant info. Fun fact: Solomon - our fav waiter - also has a great singing voice. The resort also offers plenty of entertainment. A fun group of staff members initiated water polo, pool exercises, and games. And the on-site nutritionist (Therese - part of the entertainment team) gave great tips on dietary issues and ran fun events. Bottom line: if you’re looking to relax, no problem. But there’s also plenty to do and see without leaving the hotel grounds.

Overall, I would give this hotel a 4. One star is lost due to beach not being great, location not being great, and slow on some services. The hotel is great for kids with a lot of options to choose from for them to go do things - that is if the kids are less than 10 years old. Older kids will struggle there a little as beside the water park and pool...there isn't much else. There is a sports bar but not much options in there. There is a good selection of food but it is a smaller resort so you don't get the large options you would normally get at larger resorts. The only caution I would give about the hotel is that they had rented a large area of the resort to a private event for passover which other guests didn't have access to! It wasn't fair to those that paid full price with no warning. Access to the resort is thought a partially dirt road and the beach isn't great so you cannot really access Puerto Morales by walking. On the positive, Uber out for less $10 which was great. I would go back to this resort for the right price. Loved their free kid special and rooms are great so 4 star it is overall!

I stayed at the Hyatt Ziva riviera maya for a week with my family of 5 and we had an excellent time. The staff are amazing & work very hard. The resort is very clean and the rooms were comfortable. Several pools to enjoy and lots of food options. The only downside is the beach due to all the seaweed, but that is expected this time of year so we already knew that going in. We also got a massage and the spa staff were excellent!
