Hotel Ta 'Cenc and Spa

We stayed at Hotel Ta’ Cenc in Gozo for four days over the New Year celebrations. While the hotel is marketed as a 5-star property, our experience unfortunately did not meet that standard. I had to chase the hotel by email after my card was charged twice for the room and was eventually told the duplicate charge was an administrative error. When the refund was processed, the hotel deducted charges such as taxi transfers and the New Year’s Eve meal without informing me beforehand. Money was taken from my card without my consent, and this was only explained after the deductions had already been made. At no time was I provided with an itemised bill for the charges applied to my card. The manager was not apologetic about the situation, which was very disappointing and unprofessional. On arrival, the room itself was dated, particularly the bathroom, and did not reflect what one would expect from a 5-star hotel. On a positive note, the common areas of the hotel are pleasant, and the spa and hotel grounds are very nice. The New Year’s Eve dinner was excellent, with a live band, and special mention should be made of the very good vegan meal provided. Overall, despite some positives, the service issues, billing problems, and dated rooms mean that this hotel does not live up to a 5-star rating.

I stayed one night here which isn't really enough to take in everything they have to offer on the property, the room was very peaceful and quiet, probably one of the most quiet stays during my three week trip to Malta and Gozo which I really appreciated. The room was well equipped and clean, and layed out nicely... not too cramped. The gardens at this hotel are very nice (visiting in October), wonderful variety of plants, walking the grounds itself is a treat. The views of the channel from the terrace restaurant and heated pool area are also very nice. I think overall this is a nice hotel with friendly staff. I didn't make it to the Spa, but overall very restorative vibe.

Our stay at Hotel Ta’ Cenc was mixed. The room itself had issues – we found ants inside, the balcony was dirty with an old cigarette, and the air conditioning could only cool to 22°C, resetting automatically. Once, we even had no hot water for about two hours. Housekeeping did a good job though: the bed was clean and well prepared, and we received fresh water, coffee, tea, and toiletries every day. Service by the pool was disappointing. Even when I waved, nobody came over to take an order. In contrast, the spa staff were excellent – especially the bald man in the white polo. He was by far the most helpful person in the whole hotel, even bringing me silicone gloves for my injured hand so I could use the pool. He always checked if we needed towels or anything else, which really stood out. The spa area itself was beautiful, usually quiet, and the sauna, steam room, and jacuzzi were the highlights. Massages, however, are far too expensive. Food was very good – dinner was tasty with a fair price for a 3-course menu, and breakfast was excellent, even with sparkling wine included. Overall: great spa and food, but service and room conditions need serious improvement.

No internet in room for all of our trip. Hotel could not organise a simple taxi ride despite repeated requests. The result was we were left stranded and could have missed our flight home. Room has flies most of the time so hotel staff had to keep spraying it. Good food and location.

My husband and I had a very relaxing 2 week holiday here in October. This is a real gem of a hotel. The staff place great emphasis on taking care of you. From the wonderful reception staff to the outstanding restaurant service staff and chefs, you are made to feel relaxed and special and given proper 5 star treatment. I honestly didn't want to leave. The spa is blissful and the staff are fantastic. Well done Ta Cenc for giving us a holiday we will not forget and we will return. We also loved your beautiful gardens and the well thought out bungalow arrangements. It's been a joy.
