Surprised in a GOOD way! We visited in November 2025 and can’t understand why this hotel doesn’t have a higher rating (currently 4.1). We were looking for a “cheaper” option than the surrounding hotels while still staying close to Le Morne. Based on the average rating, we expected an average hotel — but we were pleasantly surprised throughout our stay! Our personal highlight was the food. The buffet was consistently exceptional and offered great options for vegetarians. The quality and variety were definitely comparable to those at more expensive 5-star hotels we’ve enjoyed in the past. While it’s true that the beach directly in front of the hotel was windy on some days, you can always walk in either direction to find a more sheltered spot. No beachfront (facing the West, South or East) offered wind protection at all times! The gym was very small but had decent options for a gym enthusiast. (However, there was no hamstring machine…) Special thanks to the service team! They were always smiling, friendly, and very attentive.

We recently stayed at Riu Turquoise in Mauritius and overall had a pleasant experience. The hotel’s location is beautiful, the atmosphere has a really nice, relaxing vibe, and the staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. However, as Muslim guests, we were concerned about food and drink handling. We were told that the meat served is halal, which we appreciated, but halal food also needs to be free from any contamination with alcohol or pork products. On our first day, at the sports club bar, we asked for a non-alcoholic mojito, and another guest ordered a regular mojito with alcohol. The bartender used the same utensils for both, he mixed the alcoholic one first and then used the same spoon to stir ours. That was disappointing to see, as it defeats the purpose of requesting a non-alcoholic drink. The buffet food itself was great, with a wide variety and good quality. However, we chose to avoid even the halal meat options because pork pizza was served right next to the other non-vegetarian ones and appeared to be cut using the same cutters. This made us question whether cross-contamination might be happening in other areas as well. A few small suggestions: it would be great if breakfast started earlier or if the hotel could provide lunch boxes for guests leaving early. Also, it would be nice if the pools stayed open until 10 p.m, as closing at 8 p.m feels a bit early for those who enjoy a late-night swim. Overall, the hotel has lovely vibes, a great location, and very friendly staff, just some improvements around food handling and facilities would make it a perfect stay, especially for Muslim guests.

We’ve just returned from a beautiful two-week honeymoon in Mauritius, where we stayed at Riu Turquoise. We had the most amazing time—every member of staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. The food was excellent as well, with plenty of variety and two additional restaurants available whenever we wanted a change from the main buffet. One small downside during busy periods was that staff often didn’t offer drinks in time, so we would sometimes finish our meals before anyone came over. However, we never experienced this when seated in the sections overseen by Joseph and Yomi. They were consistently attentive, friendly, and quick to reset tables, which made the service feel much smoother. Because of this, we always tried to sit in their areas. The entertainment team was fantastic—full of energy and always making our evenings enjoyable. We also had great fun with them during the daytime activities around the pool. A special shout-out to Remi, who kept us entertained by playing a few games with us on one of our rainy days! Overall a really great experience! Can’t wait to come back in the future!

Excellent All-Inclusive Option for Families, but Service Can Be Inconsistent Hotel Riu Turquoise is a truly excellent beachfront property with a lovely private beach area. The all-inclusive package is generous, covering breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, and a few basic water sports (like paddle boats). Guests also get access to the hammam and plunge pool in the spa, which is a nice perk. The hotel has great facilities for all ages, including multiple swimming pools, 3-4 restaurants, a spa, and a travel desk. For families, the small RIU Land water park is a fantastic addition. Water sports enthusiasts will appreciate the dedicated area for activities like kite surfing. Sea facing rooms are well equipped if not the best. Logistics & Dining: * Check-in and Check-out were both smooth, and there is ample covered parking. * Dining: The main restaurant, La Goulette, offers excellent world cuisine and does not require a reservation. The specialty restaurants, like Bangalore (Indian cuisine) and the Steakhouse, require prior reservation via the RIU app, so plan ahead! * Location Note: Be aware that Google Maps often leads to the adjacent RIU Palace (the adults-only property) instead of the family-friendly RIU Turquoise, though both are right next to each other. Areas for Improvement: While the overall experience was good, a few things could be improved to match other similar 4-star properties: * Beach Cleanliness: We did not observe staff routinely combing the beach or cleaning the sunbeds early in the morning, which resulted in the beach feeling not as pristine as other resorts we have visited. * Staff Engagement: Some service staff seemed to be mechanically performing their jobs and occasionally appeared disinterested when approached for assistance. A bit more warmth and proactivity would elevate the service significantly. Despite these minor points, the Riu Turquoise offers an attractive all-inclusive package in a beautiful location. I would recommend it, especially for a family holiday.
