Staff were wonderful! So friendly and always willing to help. A lovely waitress called Juliette always made us feel welcome and the reception staff were brilliant too. Housekeeping were really great too! We had a fab view of the sea!

ADDITIONAL/EDIT: I was with my parents and we had no problems getting into any of the A La Carte restaurants. One night we were in the main restaurant, I said I wanted to try steak and instead of letting me wait, they brought us prawn skewers and steak tenderloins. If you tell them at the reception without an attitude I guess, they will try to get you in. :) Again, the hotel wasn’t full -or maybe but it’s so big we didn’t notice- but we didn’t have to wait or anything. Usually even if you don’t book, you just wait for your turn (which happens everywhere in the world in good restaurants) then eventually you will get in if you are on a waitlist. Can’t be grateful enough for this hotel. Since we arrived until we checked out everything was phenomenal. The room was clean and already prepared for an extra person. Everything replenished every day. The hotel staff is smiley and helpful (thanks Smita, Joy, Ronaldo and Karma!), they go over and beyond for you. Impossible not to love each and every one of them.The hotel premises are also amazing. Especially the pool bar. It’s a new hotel, huge areas, you don’t feel it crowded. The food is tasty , delicious and plentiful. One of the best if not the best I have ever had in a hotel. They serve quality alcohol not just the basic, cheap ones like in most of the hotels. Truly all inclusive, all the alcohols, soft drinks, plenty of meal opportunities are included. If you want late check out its per person per hour not per room. The location of the hotel is also amazing, right at the foot of Le Morne mountain. When it’s raining on the other side of the island it’s still sunny there. The beach is pretty and long, but sometimes windy so the water in the front gets murky. Also very shallow for hundreds of meters from the shore. The only negativity is not the fault of the hotel but Le Morne beaches are dead regarding underwater world so there is nothing to see when you snorkel which is disappointing compared to the Maldives for example.

Very disappointing experience for a 4-star hotel. Check-in was supposed to be at 3 PM, but we didn’t get into our room until 4:30 PM. The check-in staff made three separate mistakes, giving us three different incorrect rooms before finally assigning the right one. This level of disorganization is unacceptable for any hotel, let alone a 4-star. We were never able to get a dinner reservation at any of the hotel's restaurants. Their app always showed everything as either fully booked or unavailable. This was something we had seen in online reviews before booking, but we still wanted to give it a chance and see for ourselves—unfortunately, the complaints were true. We ended up eating in the same restaurant for our entire 4-night stay. My wife and friends, who have all stayed at other RIU locations like Mexico, Cape Verde, and two others, kept mentioning how poor the service here was in comparison. No one seemed to listen or take feedback seriously. We went to the reception four different times to raise our concerns and were repeatedly told to “come tomorrow” to speak with a supervisor. When we did, we got the same unhelpful, dismissive response each time. All in all, the service was just OK at best, but the key issues and requests were ignored over and over again. Poor communication, no accountability, and an overall lack of care made this stay one of the worst RIU experiences we’ve had. Definitely not worth the 4-star rating.

Dear reader, Part two of our four hotel stay in Mauritius. Be careful what you wish for! If all inclusive drinks and buffet style food is what you want, then you’ve arrived. For us it was more the location and the nice beach walks and chilled space in the elite club surrounding which is what we wanted. It’s actually worth the upgrade, as the rooms are well appointed and spacious. What is a challenge is the WiFi and the booking system for the restaurants. What we didn’t know; the walk in restaurants alternate on opening days and some only open on specific days. So it’s not possible to have all open at the same time. All bookings work from an app which we couldn’t get to work. And when asking reception how to book, there was no solution. However after pushing, there is an elite club restaurant which is bookable via reception. ** Note: if you get the app working, then you can only book reservations two days in advance. If you are only staying for a few days then you are going to face headwinds and your two options are; buffet or elite club. Also the restaurants only open on specific days; there are folks waiting 30 minutes (or maybe longer) for the walk in restaurants to open. I noticed that there were spaces in the “bookable” restaurants but as we were told they were always “full” as some folks book, but don’t turn up. Therefore walk in would be possible, but no flexibility! If the hotel told folks (via the app) they had a 10 minute window to arrive, and if they didn’t.. their place is lost. Then a walk in would be possible. Let’s see in the future. That all said, great location, beach is awesome, and a great place to have fun with friends and family.

We had an amazing stay at Riu Palace Mauritius! The Elite rooms were absolutely worth it—spacious, well-appointed, and with extra perks that made the experience feel even more special. The reception staff was very accommodating and exceptional. The service was wonderful everywhere but especially at the Elite Pool Bar, where the team made us feel like very welcomed with great cocktails and friendly service. The staff at the Waterfall Bar were just as wonderful, always attentive and welcoming. A huge shout-out to Ronaldo, the chef at the buffet, his dishes were incredible, he accommodated my friends dietary requirements and you could tell he truly loved what he did. Eric, the head of entertainment, kept the energy high with fun activities and shows. The cleaning throughout the resort was impeccable, and our room was always spotless. Overall, the staff and attention to detail made our stay unforgettable. Highly recommend! We will be back!
