Last week, I stayed at the Hotel Riu Palace Mauritius. Despite some negative reviews on booking sites, I decided to give it a try due to my positive past experiences with the Riu hotel chain in various countries. Here are my observations: 1. **Location and Design**: The hotel, which opened about two months ago, is located in a beautiful area of the island. Its design is modern and stylish, with stunning views and a lovely beach. 2. **Rooms**: The rooms are contemporary and equipped with all the necessary amenities for comfort and entertainment. 3. **Dining**: The restaurant is impressive, offering a diverse and delicious menu. 4. **Pools**: The pools are heated and very pleasant. 5. **Staff at Reception**: The reception staff were cheerful and dedicated to their work. 6. **Overall Staff**: The rest of the staff around the hotel were a mix—25% were professional and committed, while 75% seemed to lack proper training, supervision, and customer service skills. My general observation is that the hotel staff urgently need training and supervision, as their current performance significantly harms the hotel's reputation.

Where to start? First DONT BOOK THIS AWFUL HOTEL! It was a nightmare staying there. Rooms far away. Beds open during the night. No activities. Poor service. Food was disgusting. I wish I could give them 0 stars- stay away!

I'd imagine that everyone wants to know of this hotel is ready, it out certainly is. There maybe some little issues that the hotel have got but you don't see no one doing any building work or painting. We booked Elite Club room (not swim up room tho) and we thought it was worth it Drinks in the room and little extras like being able to book the restaurants before the rest of hotel and use the elite restaurant which again we thought it was worth the extra. Rooms, these are the same as per RIU across the globe, it's a formula that works so RIU use it for all their newish hotels. Beds comfortable, sheets and toeels changed upon request and shampoo, shower gel and conditioner were more than OK as was hairdryer. Safe is free and opens from the top which we have never seen before and it's clever as it has a light and you can see right to the corners without having to strain. Air Con was quite powerful but when you get used to it, it's more that adequate. Mini bar did become a very minor issue, we had to keep on asking for top ups which can be done via the app, not a big thing but something the hotel could work on. Location of hotel. Beautiful view from hotel and the sea is famous for windsurfing and they are fun to watch while drinking a coffee or cocktail. Beach was not to our liking, the sand is quite course and I know that's not the hotels fault, we love to walk along the beach which wasn't the easiest to do. Pools are heated and in our 1st few days I was like getting in a tepid bath, but a quick suggestion via the app and the pool was cooler and nice for dip. Smallest pool was elite which we used, no swim up bar in elite pool but pool side service and elusive bar. We didn't use the turquoise pool but did use palace swim up pool and it was very nice. Food and drink We loved the elite, Krystal and steakhouse, the menus are on the RIU app. Nothing wrong with the Indian and Asian restaurants, food was nice and we enjoyed. Cocktails and drinks, local beer was nice and there are bottles of beer which was I'm the AI price which we both liked. With cocktails, don't just order off the menu, the barman (especially Jason in the elite bar who was fab) will have a go and making you anything you ask for, just show them the ingredients off Internet and they will make it. Jason's expresso martini were outstanding. Buffet, we were not overly impressed with buffet, it says on RIU app that they have themed nights, we didn't see any themed nights or was any advertised on the app or at the hotel. We did not have any stomach bugs and the staff were constantly cleaning and there is hand sanitizer outside every restaurant. There is free pedalos and paddle boards but after may it gets a bit windy so we didn't use them, best to come in their summer season. Staff are the most friendly we have come across for long haul and we have been to  Caribbean. The staff don't expect tips like the caribbean but when you do give tips they are very grateful and remember you. We used the spa for deep tissue massage and we thought it was a good as any we have done back home and about the same price. Would I recommend this hotel? Yes I would, we found price reasonable compared to other hotels and it says 4 star, personally I think it's 5 star. I have been 5 stars in caribbean and they not as good as this hotel.

Had a lovely time here staff couldn't help you enough and so polite, a few teething problems as it is a new hotel and staff were still learning their roles. I am sure they will improve quickly we seen a difference from when we arrived and when we left. The al a carte restaurants were tastefully decorated and the food was cooked fresh so you must be prepared to wait long times for your food but we'll worth the wait. Room service was good again food was still hot on arriving and again freshly prepared as per order. Elite club well worth paying extra for to experience all the extras, your own pool, more chance of booking alacarte restaurants, dressing gown in room or request 1, optics in the room plus mini bar only downside is they don't automatically replenish stock you have to request on the app and sometimes you still wouldn't get what you asked for. Entertainment was ok it was just a little quiet when we were staying at hotel may be because we stayed in June which was beginning of their winter. Weather was not great either lots of rain. Hotel is based on the beach and lots of wind surfers, kite surfers at our part of the beach but if you walked around the corner towards next hotel less wind surfers. Security are along the beach but I felt very safe to walk along the beach passing other hotels. Sand was difficult to walk on though you feet just sunk in every step. You need beach/ water shoes as sand was a little sharp to walk on even with flip flops. Plenty of trips available through your travel agent or they ran boat trips from hotel, tui trips were cheaper mind. Small shop on grounds selling clothes handbags and souvenirs. Tips didn't seem a common thing to do staff do not expect anything. Good kids Entertainment in the large arena in the Turquoise part of the hotel. This also had adult entertainment too later on. Kids could get their own drinks from pumps which they seem to love. Two pools had swim up bar the elite pool had a lovely bar near that pool, this served good food and snacks. Staff did come around to the sunbeds to offer drinks. Towels were put on beds around the elite pool first thing in morning. No lift to get up to upper floors so if struggle to get upstairs. You must download app for Rui to request anything you want and they reply quickly, all restaurant bookings are done via the app.
