Hotel Edison is an art deco style hotel on the midst of the bustling theatre district. It's main entrance is directly across from the Barrymore Theatre and has friendly and accommodating staff. Two bars/restaurants and a lovely lunch and breakfast restaurant. Order the chocolate chip pancakes! Excellent pillows and comfortable beds. Clean and sanitary albeit very small bathrooms with very little shelving. Nice closet space and our room even had a pullout couch including two queen bedrooms. If you want adjoining rooms when booking, ask for it. We kept the door open (security must unlock it) between the rooms during the day for a spacious feeling. Helpful concierge and front desk staff. To access the elevators and rooms you must show your room key card too two security guards posted by them and also use your key card to access your floor. Felt very safe for women travelers because of that. Walking distance to most theaters, times square, etc.

If you're looking for a hotel near Times Square it's not a bad option. We had a few issues that may or may not bother others. Overall the room was clean and beds comfy. It was nice being able to walk out the door and be steps from a broadway show. However we did have issues with the bathroom -- just a pedestal sink with no shelves for storage -- water temp inconsistent in the shower -- no ventilation fan so when the water did work it was like a sauna in the bathroom. Aside from the bathroom mirror there wasn't another in the room. We had requested a fridge but no fridge was provided. One of the window treatments was broken so our view was hard to enjoy. I believe this was one of the renovated rooms and as you can see from the pictures it's already taken quiet the beating... carpet pulled up at the corners, marks and paint missing on the doors/etc... Had issues with asking for coffee -- seemed they wouldn't ever give us exactly what we were asking for which became frustrating. The lobby is usually pretty busy and the staff don't choose to interact much. It's not the end of the world, but given the price tag there were a few things I felt should have been better.

I stayed here for five nights with my family. We were able to check in early, which was a huge plus after a redeye flight. The room was nice, spacious, and quiet, considering the proximity to Times Square. It would be nice if all the rooms had a fridge! The clean workout room has everything you need for a good workout. Friedman's is an excellent spot for breakfast. It offers friendly service, great food, and a good deal when staying in the hotel. The grab-and-go breakfast was okay, but the staff was a little rude. I would stay here again!

If you can stay elsewhere then do. We checked in to our room (3 females) we got assigned room 326 and headed down. When we arrived at our room it was dirty, old, loud and just unpleasant. Staying in NYC we did not expect a view or luxury however this was unacceptable. We returned to reception and asked to move - the man explained the only other available room was room 2201 and was a suite but would cost us an extra $750. We had no choice as our first room was awful. When we arrived to our 'suite' we had 1 bed and 1 sofa bed, no air conditioning and the room was old and tired. I rang reception and explained we had moved for $750 and got no air con and 1 less bed. The lady told me to make the sofa bed up ourselves and someone would come up to fix the aircon. 2 men came to fix the air con however their only solution was to open our window and lock it on 1 inch onto a very loud times square. By this point we were exhausted so made do. The grab and go breakfast was nice but small - to sit in you have to pay $6.50 and can get some granola.... On check out we asked to speak to a manager about all of the above. She was very understanding and did give us some money back. However the overall stay was not great, if you are looking for location then i am adamant there is better Times Square located hotels.

The hotel is just off Time's Square. So if you are looking to explore the heart of New York the location is excellent. We stayed in a Classic room which could have done with some refurbishment but it was clean and had all the facilities you would expect except a tea or coffee machine in the room. They did have a large umbrella for our use in which came in handy for the first 2 day's of our stay. It was also surprisingly quiet in the room at night. We were given vouchers for breakfast in Friedman's restaurant which is the restaurant in the hotel which allows you breakfast for $6.50 per person. We had breakfast there the first morning it was busy and the breakfast was at best just ok. You also have the option to use the voucher's in Carve deli which is on the corner of the street for a takeaway breakfast. We tried there the next day and the menu and food was much better and was free with the vouchers. We had our food in the deli but we were there in mid March so that may not be an option at busier times of the year as they just have a few tables . One of the city tour buses left from outside the deli so it was a good spot to have breakfast before getting on the tour bus. The lobby is very busy but they have helpful doormen and concierge staff. They also have security as you enter the lift area and you have to show your key before entering the lifts and you need the key to activate the lifts so you feel secure. The rum bar is small but lively they have music every night which was very good on the 2 nights we had a drink there. They also charge for services and city taxes which for our 5 night stay came to $250 dollars which you need to include in the overall cost of the stay Overall we were happy with our stay. The hotel was central and our room was quite the staff we dealt with were friendly and the facilities were good. The only minus point was the room was dated and needed some updating as in a new bathroom some paint and new carpet in the room.
