A Wonderful Family Vacation with Exceptional Staff We took our family to Barceló Allegro Playacar for the first time this past December and were extremely pleased with our stay. The staff was consistently happy, friendly, and attentive, going out of their way to make our vacation special—especially for our 2-year-old grandson. We’ve stayed at other Barceló resorts before, but this was our first visit here and it truly stood out. The food was perfect for a large group, with great buffet variety and enjoyable restaurants—especially the Italian restaurant. We loved the beach activities, including catamarans, corn hole, and ladder ball. Our rooms were clean, comfortable, and conveniently located near both the pool and the beach. While smaller than other Barceló resorts we’ve stayed at, the excellent AC and cleanliness more than made up for it. A special thank you to Alejandro Mis, who served us at lunch daily and always greeted us with a smile (and ice cream!), and to Gerson Arco for being so kind to our family in the evenings. Housekeeping was also outstanding. We made wonderful family memories and truly appreciate the resort and its amazing staff for such a memorable family vacation. We hope to return again!

Our 3rd visit in 3 years, and would definitely return again. Extremely nice smaller resort. Great costumer service. We enjoy their food more than the larger resorts, it is more tasty/flavorful. After a few days the bartenders know our drink preferences, and are super friendly, as are the entire service staff. Very clean rooms and well kept grounds. Very relaxing. Entertainment staff is extremely friendly and tries to involve daily participation. Good wifi throughout.

I recently stayed at the Allegro, and overall, it was a pleasant experience with some room for improvement. The Highlights • The Atmosphere: One of the best things about this hotel is that it doesn’t feel like a "factory." It has a great scale and a cozy feel. • The Staff: The people working here are incredibly nice and friendly. They genuinely contribute to the positive energy of the place. • Location: The location is excellent—you are only a 30-minute walk from the center of Playa del Carmen, which makes it easy to explore the town without needing a taxi every time. • The Rooms: The rooms are nice, clean, and comfortable. The Challenges • Water Issues: We experienced several issues with the water during our stay. After talking to other guests, it seems like this is a common problem at this property that needs to be addressed. • The Booking System: There are three themed restaurants (Oriental, Italian, and Mexican) which are actually quite good. However, you have to book the same day starting at 9:00 AM. We once spent 45 minutes waiting in line just to make a reservation, which is not how you want to spend your vacation time. • Dining Quality: The food could be better, especially the bread, pastries, and desserts, which were quite underwhelming.

The Good: Exceptional Staff The staff at Hotel Allegro truly made our stay memorable. From check-in to departure, every team member we encountered was incredibly friendly, warm, and genuinely hospitable. Their attentiveness and positive attitude stood out, and it’s clear the hotel invests in creating a welcoming culture. This was by far the highlight of our experience. The Disappointing: Service Animal Policy Unfortunately, we encountered a significant issue with the hotel’s service animal policy. Despite having a legitimate service animal and the property having adequate space to accommodate dogs, the hotel refused entry. This was not only disappointing but also deeply distressing for our family. Hotels should be aware of and compliant with service animal regulations, and this experience fell well short of expectations. The Concerning: Food Quality & Health While the food was acceptable in taste, we had serious concerns about quality and variety. Five members of my family experienced food poisoning during the first few days of our stay, which significantly impacted our vacation. Additionally, the menu was heavily dominated by fried and high-fat options with limited healthy alternatives. For guests with dietary preferences or restrictions, this could be challenging. Overall Verdict: The wonderful staff couldn’t fully compensate for the service animal refusal and food safety issues we experienced. While I appreciate the hospitality and friendliness of the team, the other concerns—particularly the health-related issues; make it difficult to recommend this property without reservation. I hope management addresses these areas for future guests.

My husband and I just returned from a 5 night stay at Allegro Playacar. The beach is absolutely beautiful, there were plenty of beach chairs and so no need to wake up early to reserve one. The food was good, we always found something we enjoyed for each meal. The lunch buffet is conveniently located next to the pool/beach. We found the resort very walkable and cozy compared to other resorts we’ve stayed in. We enjoyed our room, the hammock on the terrace was a nice addition. We did not have any water issues that were in reviews I read previous to booking. We were enjoying our time so much that we were already discussing coming back…until our last day and having to deal with the front desk. Our flight back to Canada wasn’t until 11:45pm and our shuttle wasn’t picking us up after 7pm. When we first arrived, they advised that late check out was $10USD per person/per hour, which we were completely okay with. So when we went to get the late check out the morning of, they told us we couldn’t do late check out. I asked to speak with a manager, because there were rooms still available online. The front desk worker advised that the manager wouldn’t be in until 9, so I go back at 9, he says the managers in a meeting until 10..so I go back at 10 still no manager, at 12pm check out.. still no manager and we had to give up our bracelets and leave our luggage in the lobby. We were told we could eat and drink until 3 and hang out by the pool or beach. They also advised that they had their hospitality room available for a shower if we needed and to just come back to the lobby to get access… so we enjoy our day the best that we can. At 5pm I go back to the lobby to get access to the hospitality room, which i was then informed I needed a reservation for(which I wasn’t told before) and that it was unavailable and to come back at 6. I go back at 6….to be informed that it’s reserved until 7. So I had to get changed in the washroom and spent the next 12 hours of travel with sand on me. The other employees of the resort were incredible(servers, bar staff, maid service) but the absolute disregard and incompetence received from the front desk is enough to deter us from booking here in the future. Our next vacation will be in Playacar but unfortunately not at Allegro.
