Fujairah Highlights

Holidays to Fujairah are catered to all types of travellers, from those seeking a romantic escape to families looking for an activity-filled break. There's something for everyone in this fabulous region, from mountainous treks in the Hajar mountains to water sports on the azure Gulf of Oman.

The Gulf of Oman is home to an assortment of exotic marine wildlife, including green sea turtles and harmless blacktip reef sharks. We recommend booking onto an aqua marine tour or visiting one of the Fujairah's many dive centres for those looking to explore away from land.

Keen to learn about Fujairah's rich heritage? Why not take trip to one of the region's historical sites, such as the Al Badiyah Mosque - a 500-year-old structure that's still in use today. Another standout attraction is the Fujairah Fort, an impressive settlement which pre-dates the UAE's formation.

Another good reason to visit Fujairah is the town's close proximity to Dubai. The big city is home to some exceptional sights, including the Burj Khalifa and Palm Jumeirah island. Dubai is just two hours away by car, making it ideal for a day trip.

Fujairah Weather

You can expect warm weather in Fujairah throughout the year. The months between November and March are widely considered the best times to visit, when the temperature averages the mid to high twenties. During the summer months, you can expect temperatures to soar to the high thirties.

Fujairah receives slightly more rainfall than the rest of the UAE, partly due to the Hajar mountains. As a result, the landscape is slightly greener than other parts of the country. Fujairah's rainy season is thought to be around February and March. However, don't be put off by the term 'rainy season'. In the Gulf, this can mean two to three days of rain a month at the most.

Fujairah International Monodrama Festival

Ramadan

The ninth month in the Islamic calendar, Ramadan is when Muslims believe God (Allah) revealed the Koran (the Islamic holy book) to the Prophet Muhammad. Ramadan is observed by fasting during daylight hours. A celebratory meal is then eaten to break the fast after sundown. Due to Islam following a lunar calendar, Ramadan takes place on different dates each year. To mark the end of Ramadan, Muslims celebrate Eid Al Fitr, which is marked with parades and fireworks.

Maktoum Championship

Held during Ramadan, the Maktoum Championship is a celebration of the ruler of Fujairah, Sheikh Maktoum Al Sharqi’s passion for sport. The event attracts hundreds of participants to compete in events including football, cricket, volleyball, basketball, swimming and much more besides, with thousands of spectators turning out to watch.
