I really love the Golden Nugget. I love the hotel and the casino. The check in process was smooth and easy. I love valet parking for $20 a day. And I LOVE LOVE LOVE that this hotel is in the heart of Fremont Street!! Now, the downside: the older part of the casino can be a bit run down; the tub in our bathroom had rust spots and a rust hole in the side of the tub. One of the things I am REALLY disappointed with is that these rooms don't even offer coffee makers or refrigerators anymore. I mean, I know everyone needs to make money, but come on.... I'm paying to stay in your hotel, I want to wake up and make a cup of coffee!!! I should Not have to go downstairs to Starbucks and pay $6 a cup. And I'd like to be able to put left overs in a fridge. These are simple basic conveniences that most hotels provide.

Huge Disclaimer: We didn't stay here, nor did we gamble. We came in to see the Hand of Faith nugget. I'll be honest. After walking the path to get to the nugget, I was glad we hadn't stayed here. Everything looked older and dingier than the other hotels we'd been in in Vegas. However, I really liked the art and accent pieces. The Hand of Faith itself was really cool to see. It's kind of surreal seeing over a million dollars rotating I'm front of you. I'd surely never seen a piece of gold that big. Then again, you can only look at it for so long. If that doesn't interest you, I wouldn't suggest coming, especially if you are trying to hit the hotels for their special attractions.

The location is good and the room was nice but that's where the good ends. For the 4 days I was here I had to constantly deal with smelly homeless people in the casino. They would constantly ask for money and look around for tickets. There seems to be no security here. At night the entire casino fills up with hookers who will not leave you alone. The bartender named Greg was just allowing hookers to order drinks and say I said I would pay for them. One of them stole 100 dollars out of my bar machine when her friend got my attention. There's not enough ATMs here. Half aren't working and the other half had what seemed like hour long lines. Most the time it was a homeless guy with a stack of 2 penny tickets he was cashing in. At one point my room key didn't work and I had to stand in line for almost an hour to get it fixed because they literally had 1 employee working the check in desk. You're parking is supposed to be free when you stay here but it didn't matter since all the garage was full on Friday night. I won't ever stay here again and suggest paying more to stay at the Circa since they keep kids and the riff raft out. Horrible experience.

It may not be the fanciest or nicest hotel in Vegas, but I think it is worth the stay. With decent pricing, I always know I’m going to get a clean decent sized room which they come and refresh daily. A small gesture, but the water bottles they leave for you is actually extremely helpful, especially in Vegas heat. Check in is incredibly easy, and those kiosks they have now are very handy. No more huge wait in a line to get checked in. The pool is pretty cool and kept clean. The aquarium in “The Tank” is a fun attraction. The Casino is not huge but is still fun to be in. All of the ashtrays are kept clean, there isn’t a lingering smoke smell, and the waitresses come around often enough to keep your drink full. I haven’t tried any of the restaurants they have to offer, but everything else has always been really good.

It does not matter how nice the pool looks or how good the location seems, I cannot suggest booking at this hotel. I have never been to a hotel where I cannot go to the front desk before check in, hand them my ID and Credit Card and finish the check in process even if my room isn’t ready. Majority of hotels in Las Vegas, and I have stayed at almost every hotel on the strip as a Vegas local, will check to see if your room is ready and if it is they will give you the key early. If it is not ready, they will complete the registration process and let you know that you will need to come back later to get the room key. Well, not the Golden Nugget. First off, you have to check in at a kiosk while 5 employees stand around to help you (because the kiosk process is not user friendly) and if you are even a minute before the 4:00 check in time, they charge $28 ($25 plus tax). Just to start the check in process. Can you say money grab? We arrived around 3:00 pm expecting that we would be able to at least give our information and if the room wasn’t ready, we would just gamble for a little bit and come back once the room was ready. But we were not even able to do that. I spoke with the manager to try to understand why they would make people pay almost $30, just to complete our registration (keep in mind I was not asking for my room until 4:00 I literally just wanted to complete the registration process) and she said that every hotel in Vegas does it this way. No ma’am, that is completely incorrect. They may charge a fee to get your room early, but you can give them your information and come back when the room is ready. Some hotels will even text you and notify you when the room is ready. She just said that this is how they do things here and by paying the fee if notifies the housekeepers that cleaning your room is a priority. At that point it was almost 4:00 so I would expect that the room would already be clean so I opted to just wait until 4 to complete my registration because why would I pay an extra $28 for that. Also none of the registration staff, with the except of Terrence and Amanda, smiled or acted like they wanted to be there. Everyone else looked miserable; most of all the manager (unfortunately I didn’t get her name but she was working at 3:00 pm on 8/6). As I mentioned earlier I live in Vegas, we came here for one night to celebrate my husband‘s birthday, and I absolutely would not have picked this hotel had I known this is how the check-in procedure was. What a shame that this was our very first impression of the Golden Nugget; walking in and being met with employees that absolutely do not care. We spend a lot of time downtown for shows and when out of state family come to Vegas. After this experience I will make sure not to park here, gamble here and or eat here and I highly suggest that if you have the option to go somewhere else that you do the stay away. We stayed at Circa last year and LOVED it. I wish we had went back but I wanted to try something different. Big mistake. If corporate sees this, please rethink this kiosk registration because it is more of an hassle than traditional check in. Or at least have both a traditional check in procedure and the kiosk for those who don’t want to wait to speak with someone. Travel is already down in our city and you are not going to attract repeat customers this way. I gave 3 stars for service ONLY because of Terrence and Amanda, otherwise it would have been 1 Star. They made things better with their amazing customer service skills and I really appreciate them both.
