I found the price per shared room very expensive. They are small, they are not nice, the bed above rings all the time when another guest moves. The mattresses and pillows are old, they are not comfortable. I understand that it is a lower rate, but at least offer comfort. We were 4 people and we only received 1 foot towel for everyone! The beds do not have privacy curtains. I had no problems with the reservation, everything was up to date. The common areas close at 11:00pm. The area of the city is not the best, you are afraid to go out if you don’t know the city very well. The pool has a nice view, unfortunately all the time they ask you if you want to consume something from the bar. When leaving the pool, the smell on the clothes made you understand that it had been a few days without deep maintenance or something similar. My suitcases and belongings were safe in the room. They cleaned most of the days I stayed, but they didn’t change the towels often, nor did I go down to reception to ask because I had my personal towel. Apparently private rooms have better services, it is obvious, but freehand should modify the prices of stay according to what they will offer.🌟 I haven’t received my $50 deposit back🌟

The hotel and rooms themselves are nice but lacking any and all amenities. Most importantly, rooms on the street side are directly opposite the Golden Gopher, a great bar, but super popular and as the windows are not sound-proofed you can hear everything. I was woken up multiples time throughout the night. I found it pretty poor that the hotel offered no ear-plugs. There is also no basic items in the room, no kettle or toothpaste.

First off, I paid a premium because of events/holiday rates. The hotel was unremarkable, old, and lacking is so more common amenities found elsewhere, specifically the bathroom lacked a hairdryer and lacked a countertop for the sink. The bed is very low to the ground so those with bad knees might struggle here. City sounds and lights made sleeping difficult but rooms on a higher level might not have the issues. Bed was comfortable and I had not major issues on my stay. Staff was night and friendly.

Staying at Freehand Los Angeles was a delightful experience that perfectly blends historic charm with modern flair. Housed in the beautifully restored Commercial Exchange Building, the hotel offers a unique atmosphere that captures the essence of downtown LA. The rooms are thoughtfully designed, featuring stylish decor and comfortable amenities. Whether you’re in a private suite or a shared accommodation, the attention to detail is evident. The rooftop pool and bar, Broken Shaker, provides a vibrant setting with panoramic city views, making it an ideal spot to unwind after a day of exploring. The hotel’s location is unbeatable, situated within walking distance of major attractions like The Broad Museum and Grand Central Market. This convenience makes it easy to immerse yourself in the local culture and nightlife. Dining at the on-site restaurant, The Exchange, was a highlight, offering a menu that reflects the diverse culinary scene of Los Angeles. The staff throughout the hotel were welcoming and attentive, contributing to a memorable stay. Overall, Freehand Los Angeles stands out for its unique blend of history, style, and hospitality. It’s an excellent choice for travelers seeking an authentic and comfortable experience in the heart of the city.

Great stay in downtown LA! I stayed at this hostel in downtown Los Angeles and really enjoyed it. The location was perfect, right in the heart of the city with a good supermarket nearby. There were great facilities, including a kitchen for cooking, a small gym, and even a rooftop pool with an amazing view! The beds were comfortable, and I appreciated the large lockers where I could store all my belongings securely. While it’s a bit far from popular spots like Venice Beach and the Walk of Fame, the hostel is well connected by metro and bus, especially to Union Station. The staff were super friendly and helpful throughout my stay. Overall, a great experience and definitely a place I would recommend!
