We visited in March 2026 for a 10-day stay at The Fives from the UK. Here’s our experience: 🟩 Resort / Area: Absolutely beautiful and very well maintained. The whole resort feels like a tropical jungle and there are lots of places to spend the day. The wildlife was a highlight, especially the cheeky coatis that roam the resort. Staff were respectful of them while keeping guests comfortable. Pools and beach were stunning and very clean. Seaweed does appear due to regional blooms, but we watched staff clearing it most mornings which was impressive. 🟧 Food: Mixed overall. Breakfast buffets were very busy, but La Brasserie was a quieter alternative with the same selection and outdoor seating. Lunch was excellent — Natura was our favourite for healthy sit-down meals, and the beach tacos/burgers were great. Dinner was more hit and miss. The French, Italian and Mexican restaurants were excellent, while the Thai varied between visits. Restaurants can get busy so waits for food are common unless you’re a member. Room service was okay but arrived quickly. 🟩 Drinks: Excellent. Cocktails, beers, smoothies and in-room drinks were all great and the bar staff were fantastic. There’s no cocktail menu so you sometimes need to know what you want, but asking them to make something usually works out well. The Mexican Cantina (adults only) was our favourite bar. 🟩🟩🟩 Staff: Truly outstanding. From cleaners to bar staff, the service was some of the best we’ve experienced. Everyone was friendly and welcoming - they really deserve your tips! Special shout-out to Aida, our cleaner. 🟧 Rooms: Our room (in Villa 21) was huge and comfortable with a great balcony, but felt a little dated for a 5-star resort. Small things like missing shower tiles and worn paintwork stood out. Not a major issue, but some refurbishment would help. 🟩 Check-in / Check-out: Smooth and welcoming. Cold towels and drinks on arrival were a lovely touch, and we were taken to the room by buggy. Check-out was quick and relaxed. 🟥 Membership push: The only real downside was feeling slightly overlooked as a non-member. Members were clearly prioritised for restaurant seating, which sometimes meant waiting while others walked straight in. It didn’t ruin the trip, but it was noticeable. I hope owners take this into consideration. 🟩 Overall: A lovely stay and we’re very glad we went. We would genuinely return.

We stayed at The Fives Beach Hotel & Residences in Playa del Carmen from March 2–7 and had an absolutely amazing time. From the moment we arrived, the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming everywhere we went. The accommodations were comfortable and well maintained, and the resort itself is beautiful and easy to enjoy. The food throughout the resort was consistently great, with lots of options and something for everyone in our family. One of the biggest highlights of our stay was the kids camp. Our 6-year-old absolutely loved it. She would check the kids club activity schedule and look forward to deciding when she wanted to hang out with mom and dad and when she wanted to go join the fun at the club. The staff there were fantastic and created such a fun and welcoming environment for the kids. They did some really creative crafts and activities, and our daughter made several great friends during the week. It was honestly one of the most memorable parts of the trip for her. Unfortunately I can’t remember all of the staff members’ names from the kids club, but they truly made a big impression on our family and were a major highlight of our stay. Overall we had a wonderful experience and would absolutely recommend The Fives to families visiting Playa del Carmen. We hope to come back again.

Our stay at The Fives was absolutely incredible, and one of the highlights of our entire trip was spending our days relaxing on the Bali beds by the beach. While the beach itself isn’t perfect due to the seaweed in the water, the exceptional service more than made up for it. The real stars of our vacation were Jonathan and Ricardo. From the moment we arrived, they went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. Their attentiveness, friendliness, and genuine care turned an already wonderful vacation into an unforgettable experience. They weren’t just our waiters—they became part of our vacation family. Every day they greeted us with smiles, remembered our preferences, kept the drinks flowing, and made us laugh. They truly made us feel special and cared for. It’s rare to find service that leaves such a lasting impression, but Jonathan and Ricardo did exactly that. They are a huge asset to The Fives and a major reason we can’t wait to return. If you’re staying here, do yourself a favor and reserve a Bali bed—you’ll be treated like royalty. Thank you, Jonathan and Ricardo, for helping create memories our family will cherish for years to come!

We just returned home from our full week at The Fives, and it was great. It has all the usual trappings of a family-friendly all inclusive, but also amazing activities that made it feel like a wellness retreat! Huge beautiful beach, multiple pools, plenty of restaurants, but also how-to macrame class, sunset meditations, poolside ice baths, Temazcal (go just trust me!), and at least 3 hours of different fitness classes six mornings of the week. There was also a ton of nature on the over-sized grounds so you could walk through the plaza with music, shops, bars, and restaurants or cut through the cool green jungle path to encounter monkeys, lemers, iguanas and more! This was not at all your usual all-inclusive it was unique in the best ways, and we look forward to being there again!

My experience at The Fives… This was my second time at the hotel. I came back with my children and my in-laws, and honestly, I do not recommend it. During our first stay with my husband, we had an amazing time — there was lots of entertainment and plenty of activities during the day. However, this time it was a nightmare trying to get into any restaurant. The food is very good, but with the waiting time (more than 30 minutes for a table), you no longer enjoy your meal the same way. The only highlight was Oscar, who provided spectacular service. The rooms were clean and in good condition, although my in-laws’ room had humidity issues. We reported it to the front desk, but we were never given a solution. The entertainment was practically nonexistent. Nothing mentioned on the hotel’s website matched what was actually offered (very boring). We paid for a table at the Super Bowl event, which promised lots of fun, but there were only a few musicians and nothing else. The shows during the week were very low quality and poorly organized. Whenever we asked the entertainment staff about activities, they never had clear information. My children looked forward to the activities, but they never started at the promised time. Not to mention the Aluxitos Club program, which was very basic, and the staff in charge were in a bad mood — very disappointing. The beach is beautiful as always, and Sonia was very kind, preparing our lounge chairs every morning — that was definitely a highlight. She recommended that we speak with a manager, and he kindly helped us secure a reservation at the sushi restaurant, but this only happened on our last night. We communicated our concerns multiple times to reception, entertainment staff, and guest services, but no one was able to provide a solution. Overall, it was disappointing, and we definitely will not return for our future vacations. It’s a shame because the facilities are beautiful and very well located in the middle of the jungle.
