The hotel is in a great location, and that's where its advantages end. Unfortunately, the information from the reception desk and email regarding the spa's opening hours was incorrect. After a full day on the trails, we returned to the hotel at 7:00 PM to find that the sauna closes at 7:00 PM 🫠🫠🫠 The email and the reception desk informed us that it was 9:00 PM.... The hotel breakfast was clean and hygienic, just hotel fare, nothing more. The scrambled eggs were inedible; the only choice were fried eggs. The rest of the meals were quite average, even poor. During breakfast, I made myself a sandwich and took a banana for the day to explore the island's trails. The waiter told me to return the sandwich or smoke 11 euros – the price of their picnic kit. It's absurd these days to waste the food I've prepared and not take it outside the breakfast restaurant. I returned the sandwich and banana with a big smile and disbelief at the absurd situation. This is only my third day at the hotel. I'm using it exclusively as a base. I'm afraid of what will happen to me the next day 🤣🤣🤣

My stay at the Enotel Magnólia Hotel in Funchal, Madeira, was absolutely delightful! The food was amazing – the breakfast buffet offered an incredible variety with fresh fruits, pastries, made-to-order eggs, and local Madeiran specialties that were flavorful and plentiful. Dinner options were equally impressive, with grilled meats and fish, delicious soups, salads, and decadent desserts that made every meal a highlight. The pools were fantastic too: the outdoor pool is set in a sunny terrace with stunning views over the Atlantic and mountains, perfect for relaxing on loungers, while the heated indoor pool felt luxurious and spa-like, ideal for cooler days. The hotel itself is modern and spotlessly clean, with spacious rooms featuring balconies (opt for sea view if you can!), friendly staff who go above and beyond, and a great location just a short walk or bus ride from Funchal's center and the Lido promenade. Amenities like the sauna, gym, and rooftop terrace added to the relaxation. Highly recommend for a comfortable, enjoyable Madeira getaway – I'd return in a heartbeat!

The hotel is nice and clean. The location is reasonably close to town, but a steep hill coming back. The view from the rooftop was amazing. The beds were firm. Bathroom clean and shower decent. Food was average, big selection. My massive negative was the waiter staff at the restaurant. At every mealtime, we politely asked for 2 glasses of tap water. Each time was an awkward experience. We were told not to have it as we ‘may’ experience upset stomachs. Iconically the reception staff adviced us filling our water bottles from the toilet sink taps was fine! When we insisted we were happy with tap water at the table we were made to feel extremely uncomfortable each time. My other negative comment would be how the waiting staff at the restaurant would take the plate from you as you took your last mouthful. Obviously we could have mentioned we were considering going back up for a second time but it came across rude how they assumed you didn’t want anymore food and were more focused on clearing away. For these reasons we won’t be returning to this hotel.

This review is specifically for the hotel spa. I booked multiple treatments for my birthday, and I was very disappointed with the quality and value of what I received. The products used were cheap pharmacy brands, when I expected far better oils and creams for the price I paid. I was massaged at a ridiculously fast pace, making it impossible to relax. My makeup wasn't removed properly before starting the facial. I was left on the massage bed at the end of the treatment, covered in algae mud and wrapped in plastic, without any assistance. There was no soap or cloth in the shower for washing the products off my skin, and my hair was filled with exfoliant and oils. When I left the spa, I was barely acknowledged and no one asked how I experienced the treatments. I paid over €150 and I certainly did not receive anything like what I expected for a 4-star hotel. Do not recommend!

We stayed there for 2 weeks at the start of February. Nice room with balcony and lovely views of sunrise every morning. Fridge was small with no freezer department, and air con was difficult to work and not very efficient. We ended up leaving patio doors open at night instead and getting mosquitoe bites inside. Nice bubble pool with covered area, but didn't realize there was a sauna and steam room we could have used as no signage and it was located in the Spa Therapy area( other guests informed us on the last day!!!😔 Breakfast was included and I couldn't fault it apart from them only providing smoked salmon once, but multiple hams, Salamis etc every day. No vegetarian sausages or alternatives either. But the banana pancakes were delicious 😋 Room was supplied with dressing gowns and grey towels to take down to the pool.
