Pretty resort in good location. However, their concept of "all-inclusive" is so far detached from the Cancun "all-inclusive" from just a couple of years ago, especially for food, that you feel taken advantage of for the money you paid. This resort doesn't have a buffet style restaurant for lunch and dinner. Combined with literally no dinner reservations available for the day we arrived, and none for the next few days at this resort (the second day, we had to walk to the sister resort for the one available option, and it was at 9 pm), the food picture is simply not good. And not just for that: at 4:30 pm, with barely 3 or 4 tables with customers, we had to wait 40 minutes for 2 pizzas at the pizza place; buffet restaurant is available for dinner two resorts over but it's really small (there was literally one type of meal variations plus salads, and there was a significant wait for tables), service is laughable (one night I ordered sparkling water three separate times to three separate waiters, and it never arrived), and the resort is a family one, meaning you lose all advantages of your adults-only status; long lines form despite reservations in some places due to slowness of staff, resulting in people cutting in without any attempt to stop them by the staff; your name and room number is taken every single time, presumably to prevent you from eating excessively; regular coffee was not available anywhere in the resort in the afternoon. The concierge service is unhelpful and provides contradicting information; we almost ended up being late for our transportation to the airport at checkout because they insisted on bringing our luggage from the room and never did although I made arrangements in person, and again, when we left the room, went in person to speak to the concierge and she demonstratively picked up a walkie-talkie and said she was calling someone to bring the luggage to the front desk - one hour later, it still wasn't there and we had to beg the bellboys for help. Concierge also recommended a free shopping tour when we asked to go shopping in Playa del Carmen; the tour took us in the opposite direction first for a mandatory 1.5-hour stop at a jewellery/tequila place; we ended up just asking them to call us a taxi into Playa del Carmen, which they did, for almost twice the going rate, and the driver tried to scam us into paying cash although we were initially assured payment by credit card was going to be accepted. We also asked the concierge for an in-and-out tour to the Tulum ruins and were placed in a "Tulum Express" tour - however, although the place is an hour away, we ended up at the ruins literally five hours (to the minute) after pickup from our hotel, due to excessive other pickups and switchovers of people between buses, plus a "cultural" stop at a Mayan market. And, unless you put your towel on a lounge chair at the beach or the main pool at 6 am, you never get a chair at either - which is confusing as there is plenty of suitable space around to place more lounge chairs. We ended up going twice to the Lomas-owned Maroma beach, which is part of the resort all-inclusive (not advertised, but with a several-fold better buffet and grill restaurant than anything at El Dorado Royale) and the 15-minute transfer for the day is free. You find out about it in a roundabout way because the option to have a catamaran tour from Maroma Beach is one of the available free tours included in your all-inclusive stay. I thought our house maid was efficient and understood what needed to be done in our room even if we weren't there - however, the last evening, while we were at dinner, her evening colleague decided to do a variation of turn-down service (for the first time that week), for which she collected all used bath towels and did not replace them (so we ended up with no towels in the shower), made the bed (instead of turn-down), and collected the whole-stay tip I had prepared for the morning for our regular maid. I complained and we were still never given towels until we checked out at 12 pm the next day.

We recently stayed at El Dorado Royale, and overall our experience was mixed. Check-in was fast and efficient, and the staff were consistently friendly and welcoming. There was no language barrier, as most staff spoke English. The resort itself is beautiful and oceanfront, but swimming in the ocean isn’t really possible due to strong currents and barriers. Dining was one of the bigger letdowns. Dinner reservations were very hard to get, so we often had to rely on the buffet at Generations, which is on the other side of the resort and requires a golf cart. When we did eat at the buffet, the options were limited—most of the meat selections were chicken. Breakfast options were also repetitive, and one restaurant that was supposed to be open for breakfast never opened during our stay. Transportation around the resort was inconsistent. Golf carts weren’t always available, and we sometimes waited over 30 minutes at pickup spots. We were also assigned a concierge based on our room location, but our concierge was never available, forcing us to go back to the main lobby anytime we needed help with dining. The resort strongly pushes timeshare presentations, which felt aggressive at times. You really have to be firm if you’re not interested. There are also no ice machines—room service can take a while, so we usually just grabbed ice from the nearest bar. We did enjoy some of the excursions. Maroma Beach was beautiful, and the catamaran tour was a highlight, but communication was poor and the day was very long with only one return time. The on-site cenote and animal sanctuary were great experiences—definitely worth doing. Bring bug spray. Although the resort is adults-only, it caters to an older crowd. Evening entertainment usually ends around 10 p.m., and the resort becomes very quiet afterward. Also worth noting: souvenirs on-site are very expensive—you’ll find better prices at the airport. Overall, El Dorado Royale is relaxing and has friendly staff, but issues with dining, transportation, concierge availability, timeshare pressure, and limited nightlife kept it from meeting expectations.

My husband and I just finished our stay on the Royale adults only side and had the most relaxing week. I was nervous coming to a new resort as we were accustomed to very high quality food and service at our previous spot. We wanted to try a more affordable option and decided to just go for it with a Costco deal we found. So happy we did!!! I know everyone has different priorities when traveling, for this trip we just wanted great food and beautiful pools to relax by all week, not an excursion heavy trip for us. Our expectations were definitely exceeded. My husband and I agreed that the food, especially all the dinner restaurants, were even better than the previous more expensive resort we love. We highly recommend you try all the restaurants you can, every single one surprised us with a fantastic experience. Italian was our favorite, and their tiramisu was chefs kiss. They serve it the traditional way scooped out like pudding. The beach walk here is fantastic, great for running or just a morning stroll. Pools are gorgeous and well staffed. It can’t be said enough that the staff everywhere you go, the pool, restaurants, cleaning services, are all absolutely fantastic. The only downers of the trip, we did not stay in one of the recently updated rooms, so it looked a little dated and the toilet didn’t have much power. Lastly, they need better dessert options at dinner. Other than that, we loved this resort and definitely plan on returning!

We felt that the communication during our stay was quite poor. When we arrived in the middle of the night, our cart driver was very good at letting us know about ordering food through the night, via room service. When we woke the next day, we didn't know where to go for breakfast or where any of the restaurants were. There was no information in the room either. A "welcome" email would have been good explaining how to find out where things / places were, etc. Also, we were not told we could not use the Casitas pool beds, and embarassingly, a hotel agent had to come and explain to us, which was embarassing for us and the staff member. Overall we had a great time, and the room was very clean and the maids did a great job. The food, though cold on occasion, was mainly tasty and good. The Mediterranean restaurant was unforgivingly cold and that spoilt our experience there, unfortunately. We spent alot of time over at Maroma Beach, which was fantastic. The staff at the resorts were amazingly good and we feel they are a tremendous asset to the resorts. Especially Itzel and Hilda, who were always making sure everyone was happy, and they made our day with their smiles and kindness to see them happy and smiling. Overall a fabulous holiday. Thank you
Taylor
Would not recommend this resort. From the moment we arrived, it was clear how disorganized everything is. The map provided is confusing, and there’s almost no signage around the resort. Staff gave us conflicting information and showed zero empathy when we expressed our disappointment with our experience. You are forced to make dinner reservations with your concierge which ends up being a complete waste of time as they leave early or are assisting other guests. After finally meeting our concierge, we were told all dinner reservations were fully booked for our entire stay, leaving us with only the buffet, room service, or a pizza place with long waits. The room smelled like mildew, and the bed and pillows were very uncomfortable. The beach is small, pebbly, and full of large rocks in the water, making swimming unpleasant. There was also no clear communication about resort activities; we only found out a day later about a QR code with the schedule. There are many better resorts in Mexico with far better service and guest experience. I would not return.
