El Dorado Royale is marketed as a luxury resort, but our experience fell far short of that standard. The resort is extremely large, with three hotels sharing restaurants, which made everything feel crowded and impersonal rather than upscale. The staff generally seemed to be there just to do their jobs. While they were not rude, no one went above and beyond, which is something we expect at a resort claiming to be “luxury.” The exception was housekeeping, which was consistently excellent and the only real positive of our stay. Dining was one of the biggest disappointments. There is no true evening buffet, and the resort is heavily focused on restaurants instead. Unfortunately, the wait times were terrible, making meals frustrating rather than enjoyable. The beach was also misleading. There is no real beach experience, as concrete blocks line much of the shoreline, which takes away from the natural beauty you’d expect in this location. Additionally, the resort pushes timeshare sales, and several employees seemed eager to sell rather than enhance the guest experience. Overall, this resort was not worth our money or time. It is absolutely not a luxury resort, and we would not return or recommend it to travelers looking for a high-end, relaxing experience.

We were with a group of 18 people for 2 b-day celebrations. I will say that the waitstaff were so great and they were all very friendly. The place was beautiful. There were beaches, but I’m not sure if getting into the ocean there was a good idea, so we stayed in the pools and really enjoyed that part. Now for the bad parts...We ran out of bottled water by day 2. When they cleaned and stocked our room, they did not replenish the water or the coffee. I had to ask for bottled water in the room multiple times and for several days before we finally got some on the last night, I mean you can't drink the tap water in Mexico, so hello. There was NO hot water in the shower. (That was miserable) We felt like we spent most of our vacation waiting in line in the lobby for everything. Getting a dinner reservation was ridiculous, with no reasonable time spots. We scheduled bell hop to come get us the morning we left, with enough time to get breakfast before the shuttle was supposed to pick us up. (We were at the farthest end of the property) They NEVER showed up. We had to drag our bags down the stairs and over halfway across the property before an employee with a golf cart stopped to take us to the lobby. Of course we missed breakfast. The "free" shuttle company to and from the airport was just deplorable. I had to book this at least 3 or 4 times and they still told me we didn't book it. I even got confirmation from them, without my flight info, so I responded to correct this and STILL was not booked. What exactly was being confirmed?!?!? The guy at the Lomas desk (the ones that book the excursions and the shuttle) was so incredibly rude. Somehow, I convinced them to let myself and my husband on the shuttle back to the airport, but they flat out refused to add the other 3 people from our group that were all confirmed to be on that shuttle too. We ALL had the same flights back; this made no sense to us. There was plenty of room on that shuttle, for people and bags. They ended up having to pay for a cab. When I stay at a resort, I want to check in all at once and enjoy my time, not stress. We opted not to do the 1 free excursion that was available...it was a 2-hour ride, 1.5-hour hike, for only a 40 min cenotes snorkel/swim and then 1.5-hour hike back to the 2-hour ride back. No food or drinks included, at all. No thanks. This place has a lot of potential, but it is not for me.

We had an amazing time once again visiting our home away from home! So many great options for food and entertainment. This was the first time we did the Maroma excursion that is part of the More Inclusive. We loved the catamaran and snorkeling tour. Some people that made our trip special: Butlers: Miriam and Jhonny. Always had a smile on their faces and willing to help with anything. Ysabel filled in for a couple nights and we loved her. Waiters: Jairo and Rodrigo at Italia Casitas. We've known Jairo for 5 years and ask for him every time. Rordrigo kept us laughing. Antonio at La Isla was spot on helpful. We were lucky to have him for 2 days. Beach Butlers: Ramon and Emi. Ramon was always checking in on us seeing if we needed anything. Emi filled in for a day and was just as great Of course no review would be complete without praising the bartender of our life, Cesar. Always has a smile and great to talk to.

We had a great time at El Dorado Royale! The resort itself is beautiful, and our room was absolutely stunning—clean, comfortable, and well maintained. The service throughout our stay was outstanding; the staff was friendly, attentive, and truly went out of their way to make our experience enjoyable. The beach was great, and we loved being able to snorkel right there—we saw some beautiful fish, which was a highlight of the trip. Our reservation also included a catamaran excursion at Maroma Beach, and it was so much fun and definitely worth it. The only challenge we had was determining the restaurant schedules, as they were a bit difficult to navigate at times. Other than that, everything exceeded our expectations. Overall, it was a wonderful vacation, and we would absolutely recommend El Dorado Royale to others looking for a relaxing and fun getaway.

We recently stayed at El Dorado Royale, and overall our experience was mixed. Check-in was fast and efficient, and the staff were consistently friendly and welcoming. There was no language barrier, as most staff spoke English. The resort itself is beautiful and oceanfront, but swimming in the ocean isn’t really possible due to strong currents and barriers. Dining was one of the bigger letdowns. Dinner reservations were very hard to get, so we often had to rely on the buffet at Generations, which is on the other side of the resort and requires a golf cart. When we did eat at the buffet, the options were limited—most of the meat selections were chicken. Breakfast options were also repetitive, and one restaurant that was supposed to be open for breakfast never opened during our stay. Transportation around the resort was inconsistent. Golf carts weren’t always available, and we sometimes waited over 30 minutes at pickup spots. We were also assigned a concierge based on our room location, but our concierge was never available, forcing us to go back to the main lobby anytime we needed help with dining. The resort strongly pushes timeshare presentations, which felt aggressive at times. You really have to be firm if you’re not interested. There are also no ice machines—room service can take a while, so we usually just grabbed ice from the nearest bar. We did enjoy some of the excursions. Maroma Beach was beautiful, and the catamaran tour was a highlight, but communication was poor and the day was very long with only one return time. The on-site cenote and animal sanctuary were great experiences—definitely worth doing. Bring bug spray. Although the resort is adults-only, it caters to an older crowd. Evening entertainment usually ends around 10 p.m., and the resort becomes very quiet afterward. Also worth noting: souvenirs on-site are very expensive—you’ll find better prices at the airport. Overall, El Dorado Royale is relaxing and has friendly staff, but issues with dining, transportation, concierge availability, timeshare pressure, and limited nightlife kept it from meeting expectations.
