We had a amazing stay at Wyndham Altra Punta Cana. The resort is clean, well maintained, and has a relaxed, pleasant atmosphere. The rooms were comfortable, and the overall layout of the property is well done. The staff throughout the resort was friendly and polite. In most of the theme restaurants, the service was warm and welcoming, but unfortunately very slow. Waiting times for ordering and food were quite long, even when the restaurants were not very busy, which took away from the dining experience. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and felt comfortable at the resort. With faster and more efficient service in the restaurants, this would be an even better experience.

The hotel is a bit older-looking, especially in the rooms, and the beds weren’t the softest—but they were still comfortable overall. This is definitely more of a family-oriented resort, and I visited as a couple. That said, we still had a great time because there was an adults-only bar open until 2 a.m., which we really enjoyed. The food was honestly the best I’ve had out of the three resorts I’ve stayed at. The breakfast buffet was excellent, with fresh donuts, breads, made-to-order omelets, and plenty of other options to choose from. The food at the restaurants was consistently good as well. We stayed during New Year’s, and they offered a four-course meal that was fresh, well-prepared, and delicious. One thing I really appreciated is that the resort doesn’t use wristbands or require reservations, so you don’t feel rushed or stuck eating at only one place at a time. The only downside was that the liquor felt watered down, and it took quite a few drinks to feel a buzz. Overall, the service was great, and the staff were very friendly and accommodating, which made the experience even better. The location is about 40-45 mins away from the airport. The water is beautiful but it's on the side of ocean that's not light blue it's darker

Upon checking in, we were warmly welcomed by Adonis Martinez, who provided extraordinary service and set a positive tone for our stay. Kelvin Mansueta De Rosario was also incredibly helpful, assisting us with our luggage during both check-in and check-out with genuine courtesy. The hotel itself is beautifully maintained — the facilities are spotless, the rooms are comfortable and well-kept, and the pools and surrounding areas are cleaned daily and in excellent condition. Every corner of the property reflects great care and attention to detail, making it a relaxing environment for families and couples alike. Several staff members went above and beyond to make our experience memorable. Chef Fernando Simprian, Luis Reyes Cuevas, and Alicia Michel from the restaurants provided outstanding service and delicious food. At the buffet, Christian Ogando and Simona Frias were welcoming and attentive, and Maribel at the pool bar stood out with her excellent service and friendly attitude. However, there is room for improvement. Some of the breakfast staff, particularly those preparing omelets, seemed unapproachable and made me feel as though I was inconveniencing them when asking politely for service. Additionally, a few bartenders at the pool bar appeared disengaged and were openly discussing dissatisfaction with the hotel’s recent transition — something guests shouldn’t have to overhear. Overall, our stay was wonderful thanks to the many team members who clearly take pride in their work and the hotel’s well-maintained facilities. With more consistency across all departments, this property has the potential to deliver a truly five-star experience every time.

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. THE WORKERS ARE NOT THE PROBLEM. The people are very respectful, kind and great to be around. We stayed here for 4 days and on the first night our AC was broken and would not go lower. The next day we realized 2 cracks in our bathroom ceiling that spewed brown liquid all over our shower floor. We called them to come fix it and they put plaster, however hour by hour the cracks kept getting bigger. On our last day we paid for late check out and our shower stopped working and began to rattle and shake. I don’t know why everyone here thinks the food is amazing. ITS BARELY EDIBLE. We were forced to do a food tour and all we did was request our driver to drive us to the local city just so we could have a decent meal. At the seafood restaurant, the tuna and mahi mahi were overcooked, quality of the fish was horrible. The only thing we were able to stomach were cheeseburgers (if we were lucky to even get a decently sized burger) or pizza (if it wasn’t smothered in raw tomatoes or sauce) the Japanese restaurant served us pad Thai which was just rice noodles in hoisin sauce and when I asked for a red curry, they served me beef and broccoli. The buffet wasn’t the safest option either unless it was for omelets, Nutella, and ice cream. The fruit looks like it’s been out since the first day we got here. I wouldnt feed my dog at home ANY of this food. I get it is a resort and the goal is to feed everyone rather than focus on quality, but to call it a 5 star resort with the best restaurants is truly a lie. The drinks were great though… probably because it’s free.

However, unfortunately, the overall experience was disappointing. Although the hotel looks clean at first glance, it is only apparently clean. In reality, many areas feel quite dirty and poorly maintained. The food quality is extremely poor. While the meals may look abundant and well-presented, the actual quality of the food is very low and far below what one would expect from a hotel with such ratings. The rooms have a very strong mold and damp smell, to the point where it is difficult to sleep comfortably. This is not just unpleasant but also concerning. In addition, there are many construction and maintenance issues throughout the hotel that show a lack of proper upkeep. What surprised me the most is that, compared to other hotels in the area, this hotel has a relatively good rating on Booking. This makes me wonder whether the surrounding hotels might be even worse, because based on my experience, this rating does not reflect the true condition of the property. The hotel is located right on the beachfront in Bavaro, which is definitely a strong point. The beach area is nice and the pool is very large, which at first gives a positive impression. Overall, while the location and pool are good, the cleanliness, food quality, room conditions, and maintenance issues significantly reduce the value of the stay.
